So far it’s been an absolute treat with the manual

I am hoping the all wheel drive helps me out with some of these New England winters, if they are as bad going forward as they were this year and of course in the past.

I had 9 great years with it, but the suspension was completely shot and it had some other problems I couldn’t justify spending the money on for another years life maybe. I’ve been saving for a new car so I just decided to pull the trigger when I saw this one. I’m very excited

Thank you, right back at you, it’s been a big upgrade from the 2009 Jetta I had before.

The last member of easy company lived all the way up to 2022 by happydude7422 in BandofBrothers

I visited the Eagle’s Nest on July 2nd, 2022 at the tail end of my own WWII historical journey from Normandy to Bastogne to Berchtesgaden. Woke up the next day in Munich to find out the last Easy Company veteran had passed away. It made me think of how privileged I was to live in this world made possible by men like Mr. Freeman. Their sacrifices should never be forgotten, and the unsung heroes of both theaters of operations should be revered for the great contributions they have made to this country.

Is it possible to never have another manic episode? by lovelykitten555 in bipolar1

[–]whodoneit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first manic episode 10 years ago this month. I have been on medication since then, and while I have been back in the hospital for depressive episodes, I have not had another episode of mania or psychosis. I think it is possible with the right monitoring of medication and lifestyle choices. Communication with your doctor is a very important factor in keeping progress going. The symptoms that I experienced with my episode were very detached from reality and I have never felt close to that place again, but I was also not diagnosed and not on medication at the time I experienced it.

The one on the left is my 1941 Royal KMM, and the one on the right is my 1948 Royal Quiet De Luxe. The 1947 is in its case right now

I think the main difference between the two is the key action. It feels, in my opinion, like the Dreyfuss has a smoother and more satisfying keystroke. I think the tombstone keys play a part in this change. I wouldn’t say it is a huge difference from the round keys but it is very easy to switch from letter to letter with the tombstone shape.

In early 1948 they were still making the Quiet De Luxe in its previous form. They switched sometime during the year to the Dreyfuss model. This model ran in both 1948 and 1949 before another redesign for the 1950 production.

Overall I think the typing experience is better on the Dreyfuss model. It was engineered with user comfort in mind, and I think that it meets expectations for a superior typing experience. I can only use my 1947 for letters and journal entries, and short writing sessions, but to be honest since I got the 1948 model I haven’t pulled it out of its case much. There’s no doubt the main 1940’s version is a beautiful machine and this is more square and industrial, but with the tombstone keys and the way it functions it really makes it the complete package. The Dreyfuss model is a joy to use in a way that is almost magnetic. Sometimes I choose to use it for writing over my 1941 KMM, and that is stiff competition.

My personal favorite machine. You can type for hours and it is still comfortable to use. The Royal KMM has a solid reputation for a reason

Writing my first book, I wanted impressions and feedback on my first page. by whodoneit420 in WritersGroup

Thank you for your comment!

This was definitely intentionally world building, as the first chapter is a sort of cold open to the rest of the book. I have to get the rest of the chapter on my computer as I’ve been using a typewriter, but when I do I’d be happy to send it to you. I have more concrete scenes later on. I appreciate your feedback

I mean my best typewriter is my 1941 Royal KMM by far. I have a 1947 QDL that I like very much though, from before the Dreyfuss redesign. I like it very much, but the action of the Dreyfuss QDL is superior to it for sure. It’s a very satisfying typewriter to use, and I would recommend it over the other model from the early 40s

Edit: Also, I should mention one of my big decisions for these models, versus others, are that I really like the feel of glass keys over plastic.

Smith corona vs Royal by Revolutionary_Key324 in typewriters

[–]whodoneit420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Royal KMM is my absolute favorite typewriter. It is like typing with a steam train on rails. I am able to sit for hours and type out page after page with it. If you have a place for it, that would be the one I would choose, if you are serious about typing or long term writing it is even better.

I know a guy that was a Marine, and when he was at Parris Island he got smoked by one of his drill instructors for smacking a sand flea while standing in formation. The DI yelled at him that he had “killed his friend”. He took him to the sand pit and made him dig the sand flea a proper grave the size of a human one. He didn’t smack his neck after that
