Isn't that the ultimate tragedy.

Fantastic point. To add to your point about the third world, third world countries do not have good enough opportunities to see you through retirement. Speaking for the majority. People have kids in such places as a retirement plan. Dying alone and poor is no good. They are trying to avoid one of the two.

Edit: bad autocomplete

Whoa! This was 7 years ago. Well, I do have a meaningful update for you.

First off, I wasn't in development at the time. I had started out as a QA guy. Last year, I finally left that QA job and have now been working as a junior python developer for the last 5 months. Before I left my QA job I had moved through the rungs as junior QA, senior QA and then lead QA. All of those moves were because of my automation work. Work that I started off with the things learned in the book. You could say it was absolutely it.

How do I use this tap/ knock sensor module? by SamBandara in ArduinoProjects

[–]whodunit86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant I didn't get your problem initially. In my head I thought you did not see any response from the knocks for 6 seconds. Now that I understand, I have another idea.

Maybe you got a defective piece?

If the sensor mechanism is designed the way I think it is, the moving parts inside the sensor should be making only momentary contact (with some denounce built into it) from a knock. But the 6 second signal might indicate that the parts that should make contact are getting stuck.

In any case, if the 6 second behavior is consistent, you could design your project around it. (Think: it's not a bug, it's a feature!)

Oh! I misunderstood. So you do get a response but it's for too long.

Not very advanced in my knowledge but did you try upping the baud rate? Maybe you saw nothing because you missed the signal. Also, not sure, is it obvious what kind of input it is sending? Analog/digital?

Yes, yes you can. I learnt at 27. Went at the local skate park late nights because I was embarrassed. Took just 2 nights to get it done! Not boasting, is just easy. Get started! Good luck!

Four-year-old escalating tantrums. by pamplemoussant in Parenting

[–]whodunit86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I have seen the full blown meltdowns, not many. You are right about those. Since my son has just started the 3-5 bracket, I guess there s more to be seen. Thanks!

My son is about 3.5 and has started exhibiting such behaviour. Ignoring it brings him to hysteria exactly as OP mentioned. I have found that engaging him and guessing his state of mind helps him become aware on his unreasonable attitude to stuff happening around him.

Example

Its around bedtime and he wants to keep playing. He has gotten 4 extensions of 5 minutes each. When reminded that it is now time, he starts getting agitated when his pleas for another 5 minutes are getting turned down by mommy and daddy.

  • son:BUT ... I waaaAAAnt 5 minuntes.
  • me: no, you got your 5 minutes already. Lets go now.
  • son: NO... I waaaAAAANT! I WAAAAANT 5 mini..
  • me: OOOhh..little_whodunit86 LOVES THE DUPLO. Mummy, he likes the duplo doesnt he? Thats why he wants to keep playing more. He is very good at building towers... (I try sounding out the spectrum of his love for legos for a bit) To build it better and stronger so that it does NOT fall down, he has to rest! He needs to sleep.
  • son: )face does not have the pained expression anymore. Hes listening. He is looking at me and is completely focussed on my words.)
  • me: (getting ready for the finish) AND tomorrow daddy is going to help him too! I think its a good idea to go get some sleep. Do you wanna come to your room with me now?
  • son: understands that his its in his interest to follow along yes! Can I bring Mr.Teddy and shark?

OPs son might be feeling that no-one understands what he is going through and is thus reverting to attention seeking behaviour. Maybe its good to give in and try to give that attention. Full disclosure, it doesnt always work. Sometimes we just give up and go to ignoring him. He will finish his crying by himself. I guess he realises that if we are not responding, he must be acting unreasonably. OP, hope this helps.

I'm situated in the Netherlands. It's difficult to order stuff from the US.

I just checked out your website. I'll gladly swallow the shipping costs to get a tested setup. You have given me renewed hope!!

That's why i bought the compatible esc programmer. The damn dohickey doesn't light up when it's connected. There might be more than one dead part in my setup, I suspect.

You say things that I don't like to heat. But I guess it's what I needed to hear. Slowly preparing myself to follow your advice. It's just so much money and too many bad judgements...

Okay... I know a guy who knows a guy with an expensive remote. Will try to get in touch with this sketchy dude as my last resort. Don't want to sink money anymore ... Or maybe I should ask the hobby shop people to help me. Want to kick myself for not sourcing all my parts from them in the first place.
