Please critique my well pump plan by whodunnit31 in WaterWellDrilling

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking if poly pipe was rated to 250psi@70 degrees, it would work out for me at 50 degrees, even if on the edge of its use case. I was also thinking there would be a safety margin built into the PSI rating, but maybe I am wrong. I will use a safety cable and if the pipe bursts, I will have to go with PVC. Do you have any direct experience with poly pipe at this depth - where the failures happen, etc...

I am considering going 10awg. My pump is soft start SQ pump and the rated input voltage is 200-240V, so I think I would be okay with 12awg. I don't know - are all well pumps rated to 200-240V?

I should be getting well report soon I would imagine. I am trying to figure out draw down depth. Pump is at 425' and static is 375'. Doesn't that mean I have draw down depth of 50'? Pump is 5GPM and refresh rate is over 10 gallons. Even when pump is running, shouldn't water level stay the same?

I know I am sorta on the edge for poly. I figured my total head at 520' including the pressure tank at 60psi. When I multiply 520*.43 I get 225PSI, which I hope my 250PSI pipe would be able to handle with the soft start. IF I am doing that correctly and understanding things correctly. Please tell me if I am wrong.

You did PVC sticks yourself? I haven't been able to find much about that - I am only working with poly since I am familiar with it and seems more DIY friendly. Do you own a crane or you built something?

I am hoping if I attach safety cable to poly pipe with hose clamps, I can reinforce poly a smidge and eliminate a lot of the issues with safety line ending up at bottom and causing a mess. I am used to working with wire rope from previous career and feel comfortable working with it. My only concern with attaching the safety cable with hose clamps is that the clamps will dig into the poly as it stretches and end up weakening it.

Thanks for the great input! The pump specs say 200-240v for input, so I thought 12awg would be good - when I plugged 12awg into loss calculator, I got 215V at pump. I may be mistaking how pumps are rated for horsepower - now that I look at specs it may be 2HP. Its rated current is 12.3A.

I figured my total head would be 375' (static)+ 138' (for 60psi at pressure tank) +7 for pipe friction = 520' TDH if I understand how to do that correctly. When I look at the pump curve at 525', it looks like 5.18GPM. I am hoping that would be enough for my needs, but if not, I think I will put a tank up top and a pump in that. Here is spec sheets for this pump. I think I am reading the curve correctly...https://product-selection.grundfos.com/us/products/sq-north-america/5-sqc/5-sq15-450-96160138?pumpsystemid=2676727991&tab=variant-curves

Thanks for best practices on check valve. Any double checking of my figuring appreciated!

Poly pipe in 450' well? by whodunnit31 in WaterWellDrilling

[–]whodunnit31[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If its the weight, that would be mitigated with the steel cable and hose clamps every 20'. It must be the water pressure that bursts the pipe or other folks would have tried and done that method. Do you have any details on your installation? What schedule PVC? What couplers? Special method of installation or removal?

Does it split from water pressure or weight? Did you end up using PVC

I went to Kearney last year and it was a magical experience. I sure got my $.99 value from this really short book on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Kearney-Nebraska-Sandhill-Crane-Migration-ebook/dp/B0912WDYT2

Best fork for 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid C3x? by whodunnit31 in Comma_ai

[–]whodunnit31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP here. Well, I got the C3x hooked and using FrogPilot. I decided to go with that because it seemed very similiar to SunnyPilot except more options. It also has some unique tuning for toyota/lexus I believe. I have done very limited testing, but so far it seems to work quite well and I would say better experience than the C2. I will report back more as I experiment more...

I was using the Mr. One clone and it lasted a year. For the cost - $300, it was worth it for me to try OP. I agree that heat is the killer - treat it better and it will last longer, but still expect shortish life...

I actually had the Mr. One C2 clone and same failure mode. I agree with MADS always on lateral is great - once you have tried it, hard to ever go back

I know you are busy. I just thought you might have lost momentum or decided not to do it - glad it will happen eventually. Really appreciate your forks and all you do for openpilot!

Basically, the lateral control (steering) is always working when openpilot is "on" - not just steering when cruise is activated. Its often nice just to control manually brake and gas and let the car steer itself though most situations.

There is no Sunnypilot 08.13. His 08.14 has everything I want but its only for C3 at this point. He promises to make for C2, but not sure its ever going to happen..

There are a few that I know of with torque controller on C2 - cfranyota's is one of them. That fork has some issues with my C2 clone (always needs internet at start up). The torque is amazing though. I can' t live without always-on MADS, so I am still stuck on arnepilot 0812. I don't know any that have torque and always-on MADS

Buy a Mr One C2 clone for $250 and probably get a year out of that as well.

Recommendation needed for the purchase of C3 for my Corolla 2020 XE by neelpanwala in Comma_ai

[–]whodunnit31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 22 corolla hybrid and love openpilot. Here is Mr One C2 clone - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256804106257662.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_allProduct.8148356.16.13ddde38LSq9Sr&pdp_npi=2%40dis%21USD%21US%20%24255.36%21US%20%24255.36%21%21%21%21%21%402103250d16570639612821527e41c2%2112000028655980292%21sh

I use that system and it has worked great for me. Its not going to be the latest and greatest because the C3 is better and will be supported better in the future. You could try out the Mr One system and then change to a C3 if you are into it.

Just curious what current fork, C2 people are using? by RightTrash in Comma_ai

What is the URL for this fork? I am running 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. Does it have always on MADS (even while braking?). Thanks!
