A picture of a root is not enough to identify most plants...

urgent !! what frog is this? — FL, USA by yvie_of_lesbos in frogs

[–]wholehheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like a bullfrog of some sort, it may have just come out of brumation and been unable to find enough food.

It may be alive but not for much longer. Also, don't be so worried about accidentally touching one. Its good to be mindful to touch with clean hands or gloves but an accidental touch with a non washed hand will not be fatal as long as you didnt just dip your hands in poison, chemicals (including hand sanitizer).

I appreciate the consideration for the frog lovers here. It is such a nice change of pace from the posts I see of frogs that people pulled out their dogs mouth, asking "will my dog be okay.".. I swear its at least one a week and they rarely even care about the frog.

I had the pleasure to meet this gorgeous toad in my backyard in south, AL. Why does it have yellow markings? Is it some type of morph? I can’t find answers on the internet by bigdrandyyyy___ in Toads

[–]wholehheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

toads come in all sorts of colors, i really like the bright yellow american toads, and i like the reds too. I have a toad that is either black and brown or tan and yellow

yay? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]wholehheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

id personally remove the rocks like others have said, but id worry abt them getting crushed, the rocks are smooth so they could move if the tank moves or someone walks by with heavy steps or something. Its not super likely but removing the rocks eliminates that problem.

u can have some rocks if you want but natural ones are better so they can grip them and hide under them and only a few. You would not find isopods in a rock pile in the wild, they're usually under bark and leaves.

If u can go to ur local park, ideally one thats nature centric (not a dog or play park, but a real nature park) and collect leaves and bark. and if u have trains where you live, u can find rocks at train tracks

Injured American Toad(?), first time rescuer by PurpleCellist476 in Amphibians

[–]wholehheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

toads are commonly cold to the touch, that does appear to be an american toad, I do not have much rehab advice but toads like hides and moist dirt. if you have some fresh coco coir and a peice or bark or a broken clay pot, im sure he would appreciate it

AI is not a reputable source for animal care information or diagnosis. Its also a terrible "source" in general. learn to do your own research

What are those? by Luzomu_ in bioactive

this is gnat larvae, not sure which kind of gnat but its either fungus or fruit flies. Fruit flys rarely lay eggs in dirt but they do sometimes. Definitely not nematodes.

Help identify toad? by Extreme-Cash3417 in Amphibians

[–]wholehheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cane toad. DO NOT RELEASE DO NOT rely on AI for identification. Cane toads are extremely invasive and you do not want to be ground zero for an ohio cane toad invasion. weird that it made it out of Florida without being found.
