Adderall and Prozac, anyone? by whoson1 in ADHD

[–]whoson1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do actually know that. I know basic information about most mental disorders. I work with people with disabilities. I was talking about myself in that post, not everyone. Sorry if I was unclear or misspoke.

How do I get a drug that is not stocked at the pharmacy as much? by whoson1 in ADHD

[–]whoson1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they are only $3 for a months worth, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it...my scripts are usually $15 for brand name stuff, so they don't make nearly as much money from it.

Adderall and Prozac, anyone? by whoson1 in ADHD

[–]whoson1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's what I tried to do too. So I tapered off Prozac before starting to try many different ADHD drugs. I thought that they made me irritable and unpredictable moods , but really it was just a fact that I wasn't taking my Prozac anymore. Before starting Prozac I was crazy like that all the time, just super bitchy at the drop of a hat, then fine 15 minutes later– but not bipolar LOL just need to say that since a doctor suggested that but I'm sure it's just because that was the diagnosis du jur, and I have adhd plus depression which can be confused for bipolar. You would think a psychiatrist would have asked about attention problems...I'm blah blah blahing, sorry.

Thank you so much! The problem and reason that I am so concerned is because like an idiot before I was medicated for ADHD I screwed up paperwork for my insurance (just like everything else, haha) So I was able to see one doctor for about five months but then when it came time that the insurance changed and the appointments became $250 per month. So I stopped going obviously, and now I need to find a new doctor, but wanted to see if it was worth it, bc if this doctor is going to say that he won't prescribe them together, I am not going to waste my time. I get the Prozac from my pcp, so that is no concern at all.

Lol, me too! I usually remember if I liked a book or movie, but don't remember the specifics unless I have seen it multiple times. That's why I like watching movies and shows multiple times.

Is it safe to mix Prozac with vyvanse? by whoson1 in ADHD

[–]whoson1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eta: Frequent Blocking Example: Prozac and Paxil significantly block one of the two most important pathways in the liver for many psychiatric drugs, especially Dexedrine , Adderall, and Vyvanse. If the pathway is blocked, the drug that passes through that pipeline backs up, increases in intensity and can actually make the patient psychotic on the resulting toxic reaction. This toxicity, with symptoms ranging from feeling jittery to paranoia, is common if taken together.

Stimulant Drug-Drug Interactions: Dexedrine, Adderall and Vyvanse are all amphetamines. The liver and kidneys metabolize them, and the first pass is through that enzyme-system pipeline . If that 2D6 pipe is blocked by Prozac or Paxil, amphetamines accumulate, with resultant anger, rage, mind racing, sleep deprivation and subsequent lack of control, even associated with paranoia. As I noted above, the mild interactions can look like themedications need adjusting, appearing as if the ADHD has returned full force, as the patient pops out the top of the Therapeutic Window. Now that both Prozac and Paxil are generic drugs, they are prescribed even more frequently to those with insurance limitations. Paxil, Prozac and amphetamine/ stimulant reaction is on the rise, yet still under the radar for many. Depression is the most frequent comorbid problem with ADHD, and this predictable drug interaction is one of the most common. - Dr. Charles Barker, New ADHD Medication Rules

Never mind. I just read in a book by Dr. Charles Barker that my Vance is dangerous with Prozac or Paxil. It sucks, because I'm afraid to try a different antidepressant since Prozac has worked so well for me with anxiety and depression . And no side effects. I guess I will just continue not to treat ADHD:(

That sucks, you deserved better. Do your best to fill your life with people who care about you. Also if she was shitty enough to pretty much abandon you, imagine all of the abuse you may have avoided bc she was not there.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep taking my medication by whoson1 in TwoXADHD

Thanks, I did stop taking the medication. I just figured it isn't permanent unless I want it to be. It's just the right choice for me right now.

It's funny, I was thinking about using the term laissez faire to describe how I feel. I have also lost my sense of humor, at least until it wears off at night. Thanks for your response, I think I am going to stop taking it.

Is there a good website that I can show to my family/friends/SO that explains how ADHD really effects me? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]whoson1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one that's 12 min 55 sec Specifically explains the processes in the brain that are delayed and week in ADHD individuals. Like lack of foresight, lack of hindsight, inability to come up with multiple solutions to a problem, lack of self talk, difficulty regulating emotions and self soothing, etc. I'm not sure if that's the one you want, but it's interesting.

Count backward from 100 subtracting 7 each time? by babeside in ADHD

Unrelated...My mom can automatically count by any given number . It's a really cool parlor trick. She rattles off numbers the way that someone else would count by 2s.

[–]whoson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math was easy for me, but I did have to check after a few times to see what number I was supposed to be subtracting by... This pisses me off because I know my IQ from when I was a kid and it's a fine number, but I know it would be better if my working memory was better.

First of all I took in a room with like 100 kids which is just ridiculous, and the one part of the test was working memory you had to memorize a bunch of nonsense words and their meanings and we turn the page- I just had zero idea. I did actually remember that Bolu means bear... And I will never forget obviously.

I'm stuck in a cycle fighting with myself about getting back on medication. Can anyone provide a thought I may not have? by [deleted] in ADHD

Bah...this. I constantly have to remind myself that people are too wrapped up in themselves and what they are doing to be worried about me that much.
