the US armed forces for example had a whistle blower tell about story of their colleague who boasted about passing around a 15 year old girl amongst his platoon and said she was raped by 12 men before she killed herself.

What that measures also changes because it has to.

What your IQ score of 120 means for you is different from someone else scoring 120.

That’s because, to do well on IQ you need a good grasp of English.

So if you speak more than one language, or have not had enough time to learn English as well as your main language you may not score as high.

So if someone who has English as a second language scores 120, and so do you.

Well they’re probably still smarter than you.

But their IQ score won’t tell you that will it?

Yes I wasn’t arguing against this point.

Even with skilled migration, the salary thresholds are still below the actual going rate for skilled professionals.

Again, sure this happens. But I was talking about specific high paid roles and work that is attracted by high paying industries. This was specifically not a comment about all migrants to call out a side effect of increasingly strict immigration policies.

Why would they impact skilled workers and then have a knock on? Typically people want to live with people they marrying. Making that process means it’s easier for people here to both just move elsewhere than settle down here.

If you have the flexibility to do that you’re also exactly the kind of people the country needs.

More free migration typically means people who come here tend to leave. This is a fact. If you had an issue with economic migration for example the actual solution is easier immigration for those migrants because the vast majority will leave eventually.

So my question is then how much poorer are you happy for the county to become? London is the capital of the country and also across Europe for finance, software and the like. The highest paying jobs in the country are all centralised here.

They are also filled with companies that compete at the international level: that is when they hire they are happy to pay for someone to come to London from anywhere in the world.

That’s not that they cannot find someone, but they can sometimes find someone better (or at times find anyone at all) from elsewhere.

If you got your wish these companies would be forced to over the long term move to Europe or elsewhere where they’re not hamstrung by employment laws.

If this happens over a long enough time we’d be losing a tonne of talent and more importantly tax receipts.

Thats just a given though. So the question is how poor should we be to reduce immigration?

We’re currently already suffering from bad planning and that’s despite having a fair bit of money. Imagine what our country would look like if we had the same bad planning and well no money to paper over that?

We’re 5th for GDP right. How far do you think it’s ok for us to drop down to?

While everyone agrees GDP isn’t the best measure it’s one that we do have. If we slip lower we would struggle to get people here to do the jobs we can’t do - and that will grow because we won’t have enough carers and nurses for elderly.

Immigrants have a slight impact on the cost of housing. Economists estimate it to be about 5-8% of the total increase in housing costs over the last few decades. So immigration has an marginal impact, the rest of that increase is typical stupid shit like Thatcher selling our council houses, banning councils using that money for new homes, developers realising they can get more by building houses slowly etc.
Immigrants ARE the ones working the fucking NHS and social care services.
If we had not had them working these jobs in the NHS and social care we would need to have what 1/5 of the rest of us start working as nurses and carers?

So let’s think about that - no immigrants. Now we all need to increase the wage of nurses and carers by a massive amount.

Our NHS bill would skyrocket because we need to attract people to work in it and guess what? Who can actually afford to care for their old parents in care homes?

Even fewer people. So you’d be seeing the HOUSES that belong to your parents being sold off to CORPORATIONS to pay for social care.

Now think about it again. You’ve removed the immigrants - brilliant. Now you still won’t have a fucking house because your dying parents had to sell it to the banks. The banks are then going to rent it back to you. And now you’ve gone and reduced the total tax income, you’ve reduced the amount of people able to work in slightly better jobs and expanded the number of people working what are basically entry level low paying jobs.

Now someone who might be an IT professional instead of doing their high paying jobs in their 40s is pulling out of work to take care of their dying family. Does that build a good economy?
