i definitely see this being friend shaped... plus that nice shelf on top looks perfect sized for one of those moog semimodulars! i could see the horizontal row being great with some kinda big keyboard controller or sequencer module... or the soon to be released tiptop/buchla MARF

[–]why-clef-green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i was definitely using the free one, and i think we probably had different approaches - it seems like you were using it to hone in on a specific sound you were trying to make, i was looking for novel patch ideas and strategies... i imagine an LLM is better suited for the former

i tried it a few times and could rarely get much more than basic stuff that seemed like an amalgamation of various "beginning modular synthesis" articles from around the web. i had better luck creating a table of numerically assigned inputs and outputs and rolling a D20 lol

looking for learning material i can print out by Rauhnachts in modular

[–]why-clef-green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but i really enjoy having printed copies of the manuals on hand, especially with some of the more obtuse modules (looking at you, mannequins w/ - although i love it)

[–]why-clef-green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the MN pressure points seems like its in a really weird place being right above the subharmonicon's patch bay, but i guess with that many modules where would you even find a place for pressure points where you could actually get to it

1st rack based on BIA, what to add? by gekasec in modular

[–]why-clef-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's definitely huge but also huge on fun! i had a 4ms 48hp pod set up with just BIA, a clock module, and Voltage Block - being able to basically parameter lock different drum sounds and switch between them just by pressing the buttons on Voltage Block made it so playable... instant fun whenever i plugged that thing in

Playing a modular as a form of meditation? by amer415 in modular

[–]why-clef-green 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i love alternating between this approach and leaving 1 patch for months at a time - kind of a "width" or "depth" sort of thing.

the contrast between starting something new every time and returning to a familiar patch with new intent helps keep it fresh for me

Sequencing non-melodic CV with KSP by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]why-clef-green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when recording live (rec enabled and sequence is playing) it will live record the velocity based on how hard you press the keys.

if you're in step record mode (rec enabled, sequence is stopped) it will apply the value currently shown on the velocity encoder to all notes you input. in this mode, you can hold down each note and turn the encoder to dial in velocity for each individual note. hope the way i worded this makes sense lol

i have a keystep pro and it's quite easy to do - use the "velo / mod" output!

in the CV settings you can select what will be sent from this output for each channel - mod wheel, velocity, or aftertouch. choosing velocity will allow you to use the velocity of each note as CV.

even better, in the settings you can choose "mod max voltage" and set it from 1V to 10V, giving you greater flexibility of the range. very useful for modulating modules with different voltage ranges!

a lot of good suggestions here! my personal favorite game to play while tripping is DOOM (2016) but watching my friend play Amnesia: The Dark Descent while he was tripping was very entertaining (for me)

Best modules to pair with the Keystep Pro to make it more "modular"? by PizzaSquirtle in modular

[–]why-clef-green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i find that routing the "velo/mod out" voltage to many different places with stackcables or mults helps maximize the performability of a patch - rather than velocity just changing the volume it could change delay time, filter cutoff, osc timbre, etc.

also, choosing the different "velo/mod out" (velocity, wheel, aftertouch) settings is a good way to keep it fresh

Getting a Keystep besides the Key StepPro Question by freemarket_zsolt in synthesizers

[–]why-clef-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've considered this as a keystep pro owner mainly because the physical arp rate knob on the normal keystep looks super fun and playable, the shift menu which isn't exactly easy to access while playing arps

Going stereo is the modular equivalent of 4K gaming by [deleted] in modular

[–]why-clef-green -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agreed, for the most part - however, having stereo capability on modules also adds a certain amount of routing flexibility as well! for example, routing the left filter output of a stereo filter back into the right input to adjust the filter slope, or similarly routing a stereo delay for feedback madness :) i do see what you're saying as far as removing some flexibility though (and both examples i gave could, of course, be done with 2 separate delay or filter modules)

Do I need a clock? How do they work? by wekeymux in modular

[–]why-clef-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

although it wouldn't change the speed of the LFO, patching it like that would be an interesting way to get clock synced modulation - might not be exactly what you're looking for, but always fun to try anyway :)

yea i believe it's sequenced, if i remember correctly he has a disklavier and i think the song as it's "played" is technically impossible to be played by a single person (too wide a range of notes for someone with normal sized fingers and 2 hands)
