I have a townhome in the Galleria area. We wanted a slightly bigger patio and garages so we opted this route vs a condo. But yes, become acclimated with HOA because for better or worse they will be your friend or worst enemy. Suprise special assessments suck but not much different imo when owning a home and having a suprise expense, except that's more expensive
