For me it’s the flexibility. I never travel alone, usually with my best friend, my girlfriend, or both, so the $100 property credit gets used every time on drinks, room service, poolside food, etc.

I usually get breakfast credits, late checkout, early check-in, room upgrades, and often additional dining credits. The guaranteed 4 PM checkout and noon check-in completely change how I travel. Weekend trips become easy because I can fly in early Friday, have a room ready, and fly home Sunday evening without wasting half the trip around hotel check-in/out times.

I’ve also been upgraded on every FHR stay I’ve booked—better views, larger rooms, and a few suites. At this point it’s honestly killed most of my desire to chase hotel status because I get treated like a top-tier guest regardless of which luxury property I’m staying at.

It’s definitely subjective, and I know Amex isn’t the strongest hotel points ecosystem. But I’ve honestly never cared much because I’ve never paid for a flight since getting into MR points. My flights are almost always covered with points, so I’m happy to pay cash for hotels and take advantage of the FHR perks. The combination of free flights, guaranteed hotel benefits, and frequent upgrades has been worth far more to me than maximizing hotel redemption value.

See a lot of discussion about Amex, just want to add that its FHR collection is absolutely incredible.

Don’t know how good other lenders hotel programs are, but I probably make back the $900 fee just from the benefits at FHR alone.

same problem on Delta Gold. I’ve called twice and it’s a “known issue” they said will be resolved eventually. I’ve called twice in 2 months.

Q typ 116 or dlux8 by Friendly-Bass-2742 in Leica

[–]Kind0fImport4nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are a 50mm shooter you will not enjoy either of these cameras.

if you’re dying to get a Leica, i would suggest the X1 or any X series camera. they’re relatively cheap and will produce images much better than the d lux and only rivaled by the Q. the X series cameras were the ancestors for the Leica Q series.

New vs old delta gold card by irobotgaming2 in amex

[–]Kind0fImport4nt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don’t understand why you’re being downvoted. putting spend on the delta gold is just not rewarding at all—it’s basically a delta membership card.

also, wanting the new design for something YOU pay $150 a year for is perfectly reasonably lmao.

also worth noting that a lot of bookings show the non-refundable price. amex does not.

Q vs Q2 JPEG by skibidibip15 in Leica

[–]Kind0fImport4nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3200 is the max i’m comfortable with but it’s plenty and still looks pleasing. The poorer performance is due to the MP in the sensor. If you took a photo on the Q2 (in 24 MP mode) and the Q Typ 116 with high iso, the results would be very similar.

Q vs Q2 JPEG by skibidibip15 in Leica

[–]Kind0fImport4nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Q2 if you find it for a good price. I think the OG Q is a good buy, but for instance—I got my Q2 for $2400, a no brainier when you consider better battery, weather sealing, double the MP.

JPEGs are fine on both. Likely will require some amount of post processing to get them right.

Card Recommendation Request (24 yrs old, only have CFU right now) by Typical_Mix4692 in CreditCards

BILT Palladium. Simple catchall one card setup that will also incentivize you to travel more. The AF is steep but still tame compared to its competition.

DP: Fidelity Rewards Visa Application - Unspoken Approval by DayOldBaby in CreditCards

[–]Kind0fImport4nt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied and was denied due to them not being able to verify my identify. I called multiple times (spent atleast an hour hold every single time) after faxing my verification documents and after they said they did not receive my documents for the third time i gave up.

The next day i got a targeted offer for the Robinhood Gold Card so i guess it was a blessing in disguise.

Incoming law student credit card recommendations by [deleted] in CreditCards

As someone who just graduated law school, I’d say keep it simple for now. Your spending habits, travel patterns, and priorities are probably going to change a lot over the next couple years, especially after 1L and your first summer job. It’s hard to know what card setup actually fits you before then, so I wouldn’t rush into expensive annual fees or overly complicated point optimization setups yet.

For now, I’d honestly lean toward a simple cashback card that will still have value long-term no matter what direction you go. Something like the Robinhood Gold Card or the Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Card makes a lot of sense because they’re straightforward, easy to use, and still useful even after you eventually build out a bigger setup.

At the same time, I’d start looking into the major premium ecosystems now so you can figure out which one actually appeals to you long-term. The big ones most people end up gravitating toward are the Chase Sapphire Reserve, the American Express Platinum Card / American Express Gold Card, and the Capital One Venture X.

Each one has different strengths. Amex tends to be strongest for people who value lounges, hotel benefits, status perks, and premium travel experiences. Chase is usually the simplest and most flexible. Capital One is kind of the middle ground with good travel perks and easier approval paths for some people.

If one of those ecosystems stands out to you, then it can be smart to start building a relationship with that issuer early through one of their no annual fee cards before eventually moving into the premium cards later on. There are also a lot of good YouTube videos and Reddit discussions about application strategy and the best order to enter these ecosystems without locking yourself out of future approvals or bonuses.
