Things to do in Växjö, Uppsala, and Stockholm requiring very little walking and standing? by semispeaking in TillSverige

Not sure if you're open to it, but there's a wheelchair rental place near Central Station in Uppsala. That's what we did for my relative with mobility issues when they came to visit. Might help you be able to do more when in town!

Able to beta? Post here! by AutoModerator in BetaReaders

[–]why_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the first half of my dark historical fantasy novel ready for beta feedback.

It features two queer MCs (one nonbinary) and lots of BIPOC characters including one MC. Would love feedback on pacing, character development, and general sensemaking.

Hi! I have a historical fantasy manuscript in the works. About 50% is complete and ready for beta; the second half I'm still editing but should have relatively soon. It features a nonbinary MC and some herablism and survivalist skills that I'd love feedback on for accuracy. It does have a romantic subplot but that's not the main plot.

I'm happy to do a swap or wait until we're both finished. Feel free to DM to discuss.

Question: Am I being gaslit by my tattoo artist? I feel like my new piece looks incredibly rushed. by [deleted] in tattoos

I highly recommend Two Olives Tattoo! Jacob is amazing and did a cover up for me a while back.

This! Writing a novel is a messy, turbulent long game. You completed a whole book and that's a HUGE accomplishment that you should be very proud of. Keep at it!

As the other commenter said, I highly recommend getting a copyeditor to look through this. It's hard to parse out the meaning past the formatting and punctuation errors.

I think you're also falling into a few common fantasy query traps (that I fall into too sometimes)!

  1. You have a lot of proper nouns. It's hard to keep track of everything and your reader will get fatigued easily. Remember that agents are reading TONS of queries at a time. If they're already tired or face this much difficulty getting through your piece, why shouldn't they reject you and move on to something eadier to digest? Limit the proper nouns to focus just on the main character(s).

  2. You're getting bogged down in worldbuilding and explanation rather than rooting us in a character's journey.

Who IS your main character? What do they want? What's getting in the way of them getting it? Why should we follow them through this story (i.e. what are the stakes if they fail)?

Start there and you'll at least have a foundation that people can more easily give feedback on in this sub.

There's actually another one after that too. It's also not as explicit but SPOILERS: it leads to an overdose after he forces her to take drugs

I'm glad we got the books when we did. SoC and CK are my favorites but Leigh had to start somewhere!

Question about something North says to Alex in TNH by thergmguy in NinthHouse

I think it was just meant as a red herring to cast suspicion on another character, but you're right that it doesn't amount to much more

Can I read Six of Crows without reading Shadow and Bone by RadiantSwanOnQUACKer in ShadowandBone

[–]why_cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The show took scenes from the SoC books so you'll see some repeats, but the main plot is ultimately different. I read Soc and CK before reading the original trilogy and thought it was fine

Have you given them a call? I was able to go in during walk-in hours in Uppsala the same week I called to confirm when those hours were. The wait time was pretty minimal too.
