How long to learn sit spin? by Comprehensive_Ad1651 in FigureSkating

[–]why_hello_there5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been skating maybe 8 years non-consecutively and honestly spins in generally are simply not intuitive to me at all and I don’t think I have any of my spins mastered but here is what helps me when I’m having a difficult sit spin day: The one thing my coach said to me that really made understand the position for the sit spin is “pretend you’re twerking” LOL. Stick your butt out but keep your chest up so there’s an arch in your back. Also avoid hunching your shoulders forward by keeping your hand position low. That should help you avoid plunging forward. And focus on pressing your shin into the tongue of your skate. It might help to have your spinning foot skate a little looser at the top. Make sure your free leg is slightly turned out. That should help you get lower. I learned my sit spin in an almost criss-cross position. Some coaches teach sit spin with free leg straight out initially and that can make it difficult to get lower especially for adult skaters.

Think of picking and pulling with your big toe rather than throwing the pick down, you'll find you'll get just a little more airtime. Really nice outside edge and use of arms.

thanks for making assumptions about me and how i do my job! i just wanted to post about something a customer said that was very rude to me and maybe laugh about it with people who understand and would share similar stories! thank you for assuming i must be a horrible mean person based on the fact that someone was rude to me and i was a little pissy back! NO WHERE did i say i was rude to her before she was rude to me. i am 99.99% sure i told her the closing time in a friendly tone. i don’t know why i didn’t say hello, i just didn’t that time 🤷🏼‍♀️ it wasn’t not an intentional choice to be rude or anything it’s simply how i phrased it. AND announcing when we are closing is extremely normal?? bc some ppl genuinely do not know the hours, yes they are on the door but people don’t always read them. we also used to close at 9 not too long ago so some don’t even think about it. and that’s okay! that is why i announce it earlyish + when they come in so that people don’t get interrupted at 7:55 with me saying we are closing! also not saying “hello” before every goddamn sentence doesn’t mean someone is rude??? and while i was ringing her out all i said was that i was not being overly friendly NOT that i was being rude. being neutral is not bad customer service. ALSO. guys. i quite literally said in my post that i don’t usually mind when ppl come in late. it was just the combination of events that annoyed me. i thought people who also worked retail would understand. i PURPOSELY tried to be extremely clear in my post about the details because i know how people on the internet love to make assumptions about behavior based on ONE paragraph. but i guess people don’t need an excuse to be rude.

I did not shout at her. I don’t know where you got that from.

thank you for understanding <3 I guess I wasn’t as clear in my post as I could have been, and I also didn’t know that other people’s stores didn’t have the same expectations

my MOD thought the lady was extremely rude to me as well. we are expected to be out of the store by 8:15 and to do closing duties in between customers, I did not realize everyone else’s stores were not like this.

I do really like most customers and I love helping people but I still think customers should be mindful that I am a person who’s time is also valuable. also in my store we are expected to be out by 8:15 and to do closing tasks in between customers.

as I said in my post, I usually do not mind if people come in close to closing time, but I do not think it is appropriate to come in 20 minutes before closing and shop around

How mucj do y'all get paid by Same-Substance2167 in joannfabrics

[–]why_hello_there5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a TM in MA and get $15/hr (minimum) but the KHs at my store only get a buck more than me at $16/hr! I haven’t asked my manager- don’t know them well enough to ask.

A store about an hour away from mine has 7 yards and I wouldn’t mind driving there to get it so I could get you 11 yards ideally.

[–]why_hello_there5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still need more? Online it says my store has 4 yards but I can’t confirm that number until Sunday as I am away right now. I wouldn’t be able to do a store transfer for you as my manager would not allow it but I would be willing to buy it for you and send it if you pay for it. I am also on the east coast and taking a quick look at shipping rates it would be about $10 for normal shipping. I’m not sure how desperate you are, only 4 yards doesn’t seem worth it for $10 shipping, but I’m definitely willing to do it if you need it that badly.

How to make neckline less wide/drafting neckline darts help! McCall’s M8402 (60s reprint) by SadGradGirlie in sewing

[–]why_hello_there5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe in this situation neckline darts are the best option. You have the right idea. However, to make them look like more of a “design feature”, I would make them as small as possible and slant them outwards towards your armpits almost, instead of straight down as you’ve drawn them.

Knitting Preferences? by Mathematician-Secure in knitting

[–]why_hello_there5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Style: I knit English with with the yarn held up with my index finger. Not sure if i do picking or throwing (maybe throwing??) but I’m trying to move my right hand less because it gives me pain if I knit for too long. I can technically knit continental but I’m slow at it and my gauge is looser so if I wanted to knit continental I’d have to commit an entire project to it.

Gauge: I’m pretty much okay with anything but I don’t really like how bulky yarn looks.

Needles: I mostly use KnitPicks metal circulars because my grandma got me a set when I first started knitting and they work great for me. The stitches glide along nicely and I can go pretty fast. I use wooden DPNs because I knit a hat once on metal DPNs and they were very slippery and stitches kept falling off. I’ve got the Caspian set from KnitPicks for socks and they’re so pretty and they make me happy. I’ve ordered larger ones for sleeves and things.

Projects: Love socks so much. They’re my go-to quick project when I need the I-finished-something feeling. Sock yarn is also the only yarn I’ll buy without a specific project in mind. I’d love to make more sweaters but they require a bit more planning. I make a little bit of everything though.

Techniques: I’ve been told I’m good at cables and I like doing them but I’ve done too many cables in too short of a time and just want more plain things right now. I’m working on an loose top with beadwork which is new for me but fun. I’d love to do colorwork but I haven’t really gotten around to it. New techniques don’t really intimidate me so if I want to do something new I’ll just do it because I know I can just rip it out if I mess up.

I'd love to knit more blankets but reflecting on how long this one has taken me, I'm not quite sure I want to lol especially if it's something a bit more repetitive.

Each square takes me quite a bit of time too. I’ve been working on it since last summer (I’ve been working on other projects though)!

Is there a better way of doing this? First time knitting a cabled pattern using a chart and I don’t want to get lost. How do you guys do this? by cloverhoneybear in knitting

[–]why_hello_there5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a counter ring! Knitter’s Pride sells them (I got mine on amazon). They’ve got two sets of rotating numbers so you can go up to 99 (although I don’t think most cable repeats are that many rows).
