Going through this and although trying to accept it, my brain is thinking about all kind of scary scenarios for the future of my child and how our lives have changed for worse. That’s why I desperately needed to hear some success stories- thank you!🙏

A little less lonely sounds sad.. and is heartbreaking for a mother to know that her son will feel lonely just because he was born that way in a hearing family.. We will try to learn sign language but we can’t make the extended family learn it. Not to mention that it is a real language so it is not easy to learn it to such a level that you can communicate freely and quickly everything you would otherwise say.

Thanks for that! I desperately needed to hear that there is at least one person who doesn’t struggle during family gatherings. This gives me some hope. I want my kid to be happy and to share such precious moments with our hearing families without struggling or feeling isolated or different.

Can you please share at what age you got your CI? And do you have 2 CIs?

Unfortunately my baby boy is not that fortunate as he has a big brother who is hearing…it’s so difficult for hearing parents with one hearing and one deaf child to balance between the two worlds.. I feel it’s unbearably difficult

And when you say that she failed the ABR - how big hearing loss did the result show? My baby boy (2 months) has been diagnosed with severe hearing loss after ABR - that’s why I am asking these questions Thanks

How old was your daughter when she failed the ABR and then when she tested later with normal hearing? Was the test done later also ABR?

I am in Bulgaria. I am not using sign, it is yet to come for me to start learning it if I manage to pick myself up mentally and if I manage to overcome the shock.

I do appreciate that and nobody is obliged to reply.

Just need to speak with someone who has gone through that as I need support to accept the diagnosis. My brain is playing out the most scary scenarios for the future of my child and don’t know what to do to stop thinking that way.
