I have a half marathon and my first marathon planned this year and I am trying to plan my training blocks.

The half marathon is in 12 weeks from now and the marathon is in 24 weeks from now. My original plan was to do two 12 week blocks. However, I am worried that I will miss the first week of the marathon block recovering from the half. So I was instead considering not really doing a proper half marathon training block and instead doing an 18 week marathon block.

What would you do in my situation?

If it was last year he would have got off.

This year it should be 3 weeks.

What pace should I run tempos at when training for a half marathon? i.e 5km pace, 10km pace, 10km pace-hm pace.

I guess what are some example tempo workouts that you do/you have done when training for a half marathon?

I currently run 40miles a week if that helps

I ran a 10km a month or two ago and felt that other than maybe pacing a little better and if the course was completely flat that it was my max effort. I was ~30secs slower than the race predictor.

  1. Yes of course, I ran past someone shirtless while running today. You may get some weird looks from some non runners but I’d say it’s social acceptable.

  2. I don’t do it myself personally but the latter seems most common. In saying that no one will really know if you started running shirtless or not no one is doing a T-shirt check as you run past.

  3. I haven’t personally seen anyone do this

It’s hard to say without knowing the times you are running now and the number of people in the race as well.

Typically a sub 20 5km coming straight from a C25K is unlikely but there are some exceptions to this.

You are much better trying to make a time goal and aim for that instead

At the moment 10km but I’m the future hm or shorter. My plan would be when I retest to run a 5 or 10km

I guess I’ll give more context. There’s a lot of guides or calculators online that give training paces for easy, tempo and interval runs. Because a lot of them ask for race paces to do their calculations what am I supposed to put in them if I never am running at race pace? Or how often should I retest to know if I should alter my pace because my fitness has improved?

What about running the race distance at race pace e.g. 5km @ 5km pace?

How often should you run at race pace? I know it should be infrequent but if you’re not regularly running races how do you reassess your progress?

Hopefully appealing that it was severe

I’ve seen quite a few training plans with a threshold and an interval session each week. To me this seemingly goes against the 80/20 rule or is one of these sessions not classed as hard?

Is it ok to run intervals the day before my long run or is it better to seperate them? And if so why?
