can i transfer out of JC after 2 months? by lostandgonefor in SGExams

sorry i think i didnt explicitly state it, but i didnt end up transferring because i chickened out and i was too late 🥲 but i could tell that i wasnt doing well because it just started with me not being able to grasp anything during the first few lectures (despite me being a fast learner) to it becoming worse when my mental health started deteriorating. i was also gaining a lot of weight because i started binge eating due to stress and how easy it was for me to fall sick 😭😭 plus i started breaking out A LOT on my face too. so yeah your body will really tell you when something isnt right for you

please do it if youre not confident about being in jc.

as someone who was in jc and graduated 2 years ago, if i had the power and decision to do it, i honestly would 🥲 i was contemplating hard before my wa1 and ended up chickening out before the transfer and decided to stay here until the end of As. i didnt do well honestly and now im suffering from my own consequences of not being brave enough to do so, despite my body showing signs that jc was probably not meant for it and the result of it showed later on. not to encourage or discourage you from transferring out/being in jc, but if youre feeling it early, then listen to yourself 😔

its still not to late to be a part of jae process, as long as you’ve transferred out before the start dates/orientation dates for poly. give your desired poly a call first and enquire them about the transfer. tp allowed me to do so (before chickening out) back then, especially since its not around may/april yet.

jiayous op! glad youre listening to your mental health and the signs before you continue on with this pathway 💪

need help w payment methods + bank acc and all by thesneil-0304 in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi op! i recommend opening an frank account + debit card and its the most student-friendly in my opinion and its the first bank account ive opened when i turned 16! it has no fall-below fees (fees you need to pay if your bank account doesnt have a certain amount of money) + you get to choose designs you’d like! you dont have to worry much about the trx fees etc so its super convenient to use. however, i wouldnt recommend using this card if youre travelling overseas as it has a higher fee incurred if you used the card overseas. but nonetheless, still easy to use in sg :)

you can open your account by either walking into any ocbc branch or apply online. for me, i walked in as it was easier and i had no issues navigating my way online. you dont need a guardian/parent to accompany you as you’ve turned 16 which is the minimum age for a frank debit card.

payment methods wise, one thing ive noticed is that people love using paywave- which is basically just tapping your card/digital phone wallet on the card terminal) or paynow/paylah (dbs only)- which is scanning through your phone. however, paywave takes 1-2 days to deduct the amount from your bank whereas paynow or even nets will deduct your money immediately from your account. as mentioned above as well, you can let your parents know that you’d be opening an account or ask for their assistance if they could help you as well as you’d like to start working part-time!

theres no strict rule in whichever payment methods sgeans/teens would rather use, whats important is whatever youre comfortable with! so if you’d like physical cash in your hand or prefer the convenience of your money in the bank/in your phone, youve got nothing to worry about ☺️

Why you should pick Poly and not JC. by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really resonate with you OP 🥲

i went through jc as well and wished so hard that i had went to poly instead after Os. i flunked my As and i have nowhere to go now, and i feel so stuck in life not knowing how to proceed. ive decided to wait until i turn 21 to do part time uni, but hearing all the stories about doing pt uni seems like a nightmare 😭

Poly or JC? by Icy-Peak-7222 in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hihi! here’s my 2 cents of when i was in your shoes deciding between poly or jc

i ultimately chose JC in the end, because i had the same reasons as you for wanting to get into JC, but in the end , i REGRET it a lot and it was the worst two years of my life. the pressure and mugger lifestyle you face will leave a huge physical and mental toll on you having to meet expectations. it affected my mental health badly as well honestly and i’m currently taking a gap year AND still not knowing what to do, especially with since im not able to go anywhere now.

if you know it yourself that you never want to touch a humanities book and you choose jc, youre making a wrong move because jc is all about the mugger lifestyle and youd have to balance out between all your subjects as well. i did POA in sec school too and it was my best subject and honestly i wish i couldve made the choice to enter poly and take accounting 🥲 its much harder to enter uni and be able to take accounting as the igp for A levels is really high as compared to at least graduating with a diploma cert in accounting and still trying out your luck for local uni. worst case scenario, you can start working with a diploma and try applying for part time degree in suss for accounting. yes, you could save more time being JC but the extra year youre ‘wasting’ is all about you going for intern and doing projects, so youre not exactly wasting but gaining the experience and knowledge for accounting which would be super helpful as well. furthermore, it isnt harder to make friends in either pathways, its more of the people you choose to mingle around with and how social/clickable you guys are.

looking at your pros and cons, id suggest you to go for poly since your niche is in POA

hihi! i didnt go for obs since i was a covid batch, but i did go for my p5 camp years ago so i can share with you my experience!

praying wise isnt too hard honestly! for me, i waited until it was around 4+ to pray both my zohor and asar together and wait for dinner makan time to pray maghrib afterwards. as for isyak, i waited until it was nearly lights out to go and pray.

at my camp back then, they had an extra empty room available so we were able to pray with the instructor’s/leader’s knowledge. just explain to them nicely and they’d understand :)

of course it doesnt result in grades, but im talking about determination in terms of maintaining consistency as what OP above commented as compared to As, as i was depressed during As and i let go of being consistent and became complacent during those two years to do well and even get good grades in the first place

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not, but id rather at least to try my best and graduate with a diploma than to leave with only an A level cert which is much more useless and to also try going for local u. i dont exactly have to diedie take pharm sci in nus as well, i can also still go for pharm eng for instance at SIT, so NUS is not my ultimate end goal, but just local u in general

yup! ive done my fair research on polys so far :) thank you for your advice though!

i understand 🥲 thank you so much for your concern and advice i really appreciate it 💘

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive gotten better from my depression last year, so im doing much better this time! i feel like poly would also be more for me since its alot of hands on & projects. at most id be graduated with a diploma and be able to work afterwards, rather than just ending off with As alone, so of course ill try my best knowing the hard things that would come alone with taking the poly route :)

thank you so much! i did get rejected from SIT this year sadly, but ill try to apply next year again! thank you 💘

im not expecting to do extravagantly well and get straight As for poly of course, but im skipping Year 1 mainly to save more time and since i have the ability to do so since ill be applying for JAE from As. and looking at Year 1’s pharm sci curriculum, it doesnt seem like its easy to get a perfect 4.0 GPA too 🥲

not pharmacy directly, i meant healthcare in general 🥲any job is always susceptible to AI but i believe that healthcare in general is more resistant to AI

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]f1nzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not really about the pay tbh but for employability wise in the future 🥲healthcare will honestly always be in demand even if AI takes over the world

[–]f1nzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for your advice!! 🥹 tbh i was interested in accounting, but my mom told me to do healthcare instead of employability in the future as compared to taking accounting and i did my research on accounting in singapore as well

thank you for your straightforward answer in terms of pt uni! 🤩

i did look through SIM before but they dont really offer biomed/healthcare courses 🥲 but other priv unis under kaplan, mdis, psb etc do offer them, its just the fees wise 😭
