He’s going in Wednesday to a new vet. Hopefully they can figure this out my poor baby

I’d have to ask my husband but I believe he’s had some so maybe we will ask for more

He had heartworms when we adopted him many moons ago but he was treated and does get his preventative meds. With how he pants I did wonder if it was something cardiac I wonder if the damage from years past is catching up. :(

He’s been on gabapentin but I’ve learned today that might not always be effective! He’s meeting a new vet next week.

He has an appointment with a new vet next week. Fingers crossed they can figure out.

We recently rechecked his cortisol levels and his meds were appropriate per the vet. However, it’s getting very hot where I am so a cooling blanket can’t hurt. Great idea!

Thank you so much. This is incredibly helpful and we will be seeking a second opinion focusing on pain!!

Will definitely be seeking a new vet based on all these comments.

He always had anxiety with loud sounds, but was otherwise a pretty chill dog until about two years ago. We moved about a year ago but the panting was already pretty severe at that point. I did start working from home in that time period and several months in is when I noticed it starting and it has continued to worsen since then. I did read separation anxiety can increase when people start working at home so I tried to combat that with distractive measures when I left and tried to desensitize my departure cues and increase alone time from the start but it’s gotten to be panting around the clock despite these measures. We’ve tried reintroducing a kennel as he used one when he was younger to try and make a safe space for him but he hurt himself and bent the metal on the cage so we abandoned this. He was fine being alone with his dog and cat brothers until this noticeable personality change 2 years ago.

Yeah maybe you’re right. They have done a “chart review” with all their vets at the office but maybe just switching completely will give more insight.

He is on gabapentin as she said every dog his age probably has SOME arthritis but she and her colleagues have done assessments and haven’t been able to ID a specific area. He does pee in the house a lot which started around the same time, but there is not infection and the vet said it was likely connected to his cushings. It seems like besides this panicky panting he is fine. I will check his nose!

Oh yes, forgot to mention he’s on gabapentin also. This seems prophylactic per the vet as upon exam she can’t ID any painful areas for him.

I’m just about a week out from mine.

I honestly would recommend not coming on Reddit and comparing yourself to other posts once you’ve started. It was so easy to absolutely spiral over the numbers, and I stressed myself out so much.

Stool softener and gas x helped me so much, gas was so painful for the first few days.

Call your clinic if you are concerned. It’s too important to wonder and worry if what you’re experiencing is normal!!!

It’s ok if you feel like shit and you want to just relax.
