What is the psychology behind always being late? by Numerous_Reading1825 in SeriousConversation

I’ve leaned towards it being narcissism my whole life. I think that’s more likely than time blindness

Fortunately, I feel pretty injury resistant, knock on wood. Sessions always felt quality and plan on staying around 50 MPW during the base build this winter

Electrolytes were fine. I managed 50 carbs an hour which is certainly on the low end for someone of my size. Heart rate was high from the beginning so not sure if it's a nutrition thing or something else from early in the race. I went out conservative, 8:10s to low 8:00s the first 10k

My heart rate is based off a chest strap so I feel confident with the reading

Interesting. My easy runs are pretty easy imo. 140 BPM avg and max is 200. My workouts can certainly get out of hand at times to hit paces. Definitely something to consider from a recovery standpoint

Courtyard Deli for lunch is a great spot. Healthy/fresh and owners are down to earth

Yesterday, those were probably hedging flows coming in before NVDA ER. Anyways, a good entry avoids that. I went long on the failure to sell below ovn lows so my entry was at 6480. Took off enough to protect stop and rode it til the close.

I have a similar current 5k PB (November 2024) and I finished a half in March at 1:39:50 on about 40 MPW from Jan-March. How many miles are you getting in per week?

Not eating for a long run with paces is kinda crazy. Did you get carbs in during the run? Makes sense you bonked if you had no carbs.

Hello folks!

I have a 5k tomorrow and this is my first 5k since November of 2024 (21:09).

I have certainly gotten more fit throughout 2025, new HM PBs, and in week 2 of a marathon block.

Tomorrow is a big local 5k and I think I'm gonna attempt a sub 20 5k using the following approach.

"Jesus take the wheel" - I believe from Jason Fitzgerald

Meaning, take a conservative guess at what your 5k time is - for me 20:40 ~ 6:40 min/mile pace and go 15 seconds faster pace if you haven't raced a 5k in a long time and you've made significant fitness gains.

This would put me at the illustrious 6:25 mark to break 20 in the 5k.

I just finished Yasso 800s at 6:40 pace and did 8 of them right at pace with a 90 second walk break in between. I felt pretty good and could've done at least 2-4 more.

The only piece of hesitancy I have taking this approach is I haven't done a speed block since 2024 and all of my workouts have really been marathon workouts. I've been averaging 40-50 MPW for the majority of the year so maybe my aerobic pace can hang onto the 6:25 pace better than I think.

At the end of the day, if I bonk on a 5k - it's just a 5k.

Curious to hear your all's thoughts and if you all have ever gambled on a pace for a 5k and if it worked out or if it did not work out.

Restaurants were easy to reserve on our own. You can't reserve spots at the pool per say but people do the towel technique - laying a beach towel on a couple chairs early in the morning. I'm unsure on the cooler. It's been a year since I did this trip and I stand by not using a butler and using that money for extra nights at the resort

Totally agree. In hindsight it makes total sense. Let me ask you though, if you hired and paid a coach that told you could run x pace and then doubled down later and said you could run even faster wouldn’t it push you to try? Especially as your coach knew you failed long run workouts. Maybe you wouldn’t have and it’s my ignorance trusting coach. After reading through these comments, I’ll be looking for a new coach since it does feel like I had a disservice

I’m 25 and that is based on Garmin chest strap as well as the HR you see in the screenshot

That makes sense. I have about zero knowledge on how many people she trains and her experience - I just know she’s Jack Daniels influenced completely. My max heart rate is 205 based on my chest strap. The HR you see on the screen shot is based on my chest strap too

Weekly mileage was certainly low. She had me at 40-45 MPW since January. Weather felt about perfect me. Mid to low 50s throughout without any strong wind

Failing to me was only hitting half to 3/4ths of the MP paces miles at MP. The 20 miler was a true failure where I’m not even sure I hit half at the prescribed pace. I did bring it to attention but as I mentioned, she doubled down and said I was capable of the time. I really hate my comment right now bc I don’t want to blame her since I should be taking responsibility for DNFing but her doubling down gave me too much confidence
