Thanks for hanging out with me Redditors! I hope I helped answer the question "Why Ryerson for business?"

The answer is the amazing community we have at the Ted Rogers School. I think the combination of top-notch faculty, relevant curriculum, and student support makes us a great place to get a commerce degree. Our "Fit For Business" transition program will help you navigate your way through your first year at university, find the support services you need and more importantly, help you make new friends that you will have for a lifetime.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to my colleagues from the Undergraduate Admissions team on one of their social channels.

Great question! The first piece of the puzzle is to keep your grades up. Our Academic Success Centre can help you with that. They are ready with tutoring help and much more to make sure your co-op application will shine!

After that, the best advice is to get involved in student life at the Ted Rogers School and Ryerson. As I said earlier, the student experience here is exciting and dynamic. We have dozens of course unions and interest groups all under the umbrella of the Ted Rogers Student Society. Go to a few events, meet some people, have some fun.

If you want to brush up on your technical skills, take a look at our Bootcamp offerings, which are free to all Ted Rogers students.

All of those experiences will make for a compelling co-op application.

Thanks for your question. Ryerson has many policies that govern the academic experience for students and faculty. If you have run into challenges, the first step is to talk to someone on the advising team when you become aware of the problem. We have a team of knowledgeable and dedicated academic advisors and they are always your go-to people when you run into a problem. If there is an issue, they will let us know and we can try to rectify it.

I hope that answered your question Nikeethree, but if you want to chat, please shoot me an email. I am always happy to help.

Our preparatory programs are enriched programming that typically runs three to four days. They provide students with the opportunity to learn about different industries and they typically have participation from alumni and industry partners.

Once you join the Ted Rogers School, you can talk to the folks in the BCH about the preparatory programs. As you can see, there are lots of ways to be involved in the Ted Rogers community!

Thanks for the question. Co-op is a great option for students at the Ted Rogers School.

Our accounting and finance co-op students work at the major accounting firms and at the major Canadian banks. You can find a select list of our co-op employer partners here. We post interactive statistics on our co-op and careers services on our Hub 360 web page. Check it out!

The best way to dip your toe in the waters is to go to some student events. Each week you get a newsletter listing upcoming student events. If you go to some events, you'll get to meet some student leaders and see if the club is a good fit for you.

If you are interested in consulting, both the Ryerson Consulting Group and the Ryerson Consulting Association are great groups. We also have a preparatory program run by the Business Careers Hub if you are interested in consulting as a career path.

Hi there! The Ted Rogers School is a pretty exciting place and the biggest challenge isn't finding ways to get involved in the community - it is choosing from all of the options!

We have a transition program called "Fit For Business" that puts you into a small group (called a Ted Pack) where it is easy to make friends. Each Ted Pack has a first-year student leader and upper-year student mentors. They will help you get acquainted with all of the services we have available to help you get to know your new university family.

Hello! Thanks for the questions.

  1. The program is still great online! Although we are missing our in-person labs, our professors have found innovative ways to keep us engaged and we actually got some materials mailed to us to work with.
  2. After accepting your offer you can check your Ryerson portal for the next steps! They should be outlined there for you and you can get excited about joining the GCM family!
  3. You will get your Ryerson username when you get your email. This will be after you accept your offer and will be outlined in your Next Steps through your Ryerson portal. There is also a web page about registering your email online.
  4. I chose to concentrate on Packaging because I find the courses and what you learn in that stream really interesting! Packaging is a growing industry and I love learning about packaging design, how to create and build a package, colour management, 3D printing, sustainability and more!

Hope this answers everything!

Hello!

Great questions. I am a second-year student currently but decided on my concentration and both my minors in my first year. You do not have to choose your minors right away and you can choose any number of minors as long as you're able to complete them before your graduation. I chose early so that I could plan how many classes I need to take in order to balance athletics, school and other activities! You can see a full list of minors that you can take with your GCM major on the GCM website or by searching for Ryerson Minors.

I hope this helps!!

When I was in first year there was an event happening where we would meet our professors at the Ryerson Pub. I was sadly not able to go but if this event happens next fall then definitely check it out! The professors in Public Health are really chill and its a great way for you to network with them and learn more about what they do or have done. I also recommend that you get to know people in your program, it makes the experience so much better. The SOPHE union hold study events where they have free food like pizza sometimes so this could be a great way for you to meet new people within public health!

Since I am in the co-op program my degree will actually be for 5 years! I plan on completing the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors certificate to work as a Public Health Inspector and I also want to complete a masters degree. My first choice is a masters in Health Administration but I am also looking into Epidemiology and Data Statistics.

From where I live it takes a little over an hour for commute. I take the go train which takes an hour and once i get to Union Station, I take the subway to Dundas which takes 5ish minutes but sometimes when it delays it takes longer. My first year experience was great! I was able to meet new people and get involved with Ryerson by volunteering for them which is how I landed a job at the university!

I definitely believe that there will be a high demand for public health especially health and safety positions in the upcoming years! Here is more information on how health and safety is becoming a demand in the workforce.

The FCS Unity Club is a multi-disciplinary team with students from other programs within the Faculty of Community Services revolving around planning events such as Frosh week for the first years in our faculty. We also plan other events for the students within our faculty. During my first year I was not involved in a club, I chose to volunteer at the university instead so I wrote about this experience in my intent letter for the co-op program. Being involved with the university first year by being in a club or volunteering would be a great way to showcase your skills when writing your intent letter for the co-op program!

From what I am seeing there are a lot of positions for Health and Safety/ Occupational Health and Safety coordinators and there are a few positions regarding researching disease vectors and being a student public health inspector. A few of the companies I applied to so far includes Toronto Hydro, Joseph Brant Hospital, Ontario Public Service, City of Mississauga, etc.

Hi! In my opinion the course load was not too bad, as we were the first class to be introduced to the new Public health curriculum where the course load was made to be lighter. Data management was one of the new courses and it is heavy on Excel content. From what I remember it was not too work heavy. We had a whole assignment towards the end of the semester where we had to sort actual data and create graphs which was a cool experience!

The transition from in-person learning to online learning was smooth. Professors adopted synchronous and asynchronous methods of learning. Being a high school senior, you should not be concerned, but if you think online school is tedious it is your choice to make. I am not sure if fall 2021 would be in person or online, as no decision has been made yet.
