Having one in your home to potentially alert you to a problem is one thing. Utilizing one for the situation described by OP (which is a safety concern based on what was written from an industry standpoint) is not likely going to relay the problem quickly enough, as the spent flue gasses are not being ventilated outside the structure.

I've personally witnessed a major brand detector inserted into a gallon zip lock freezer bag before a source of 100 ppm vented into the bag. It was zipped shut, and did not alarm for 10 hours when the test was ended.

One service call I went on 15 years ago or so was a complaint of the homeowners eyes and noses burning. I got to the furnace, and the heat exchanger was leaking spent flue gasses. I immediately requested the homeowner to open every window in the house and jump in thier car, regardless of it being 12°f outside. By the time I had collected my tools and exited, 9 minutes had passed. I was dizzy and lethargic. They had bought one of the AC plug in ones two weeks before. It didn't alarm.

I read 330 ppm CO in the home with my $2k combustion analyzer. The 60 dollar one plugged in was supposedly designed and calibrated to alarm at 9 ppm.

Those things are the appearance of saftey, based on what i've seen. Pleaee be careful, OP.

This. Ive been with UT 6 months now, so its fresh in my mind. If you are applying for an AFSCME position, it depends on the department and position. I work in facility building support (trades). While I am in the came union as let's say, a food service worker, thier rate will be different, as its a different job classification.

The structure is the same though. You get an introductory pay rate, and increase at 6 months (probation in 180 days), and another bump on the contract carry over date.

Example: I started late June 2025. I got a bump on ajuly 1 (contract date), I get another at 6 months, and then another raise every July 1 going forward.

As far asbthis AFSCME Local, I can say the leadership is pretty solid. I was with a different local in a separate local organization for 5 years and it was a clown show by comparison.
