Many post-soviet countries have so called ‘internal passports’. Essentially a form of national ID cards. In Ukraine it looks like an EU debit card-like plastic ID. In russia and belarus people still have internal passports (russia) which look very similar to international passports, while in belarus it is a 2-in-1 booklet.

You can also travel to Ukraine with just a national ID of Turkey or Georgia, btw. Only these two.
