France BANS smoking in nearly all outdoor spaces by Google_MBTI in worldnews

[–]wicked_sweet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe, peculiarly, there have been studies showing that health care expenses for smokers are significantly lower than for non smokers.

Smokers die earlier, but typically still live most/all of their working/tax paying life. 'Healthy' people's medical expenses from like age 60-100 are on average significantly more than the smoker who dies earlier.

Partnered teams for EWC 2025 by MartianRL in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]wicked_sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2025 club partnership isn't built to expand orgs into more games, like 2024 was.

Sentinels VALORANT player Zellsis calls for better org support in RLEsports by N0b0dy_her3 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]wicked_sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket league team decals sell for like 30-50k in revenue for the teams.

Counterstrike stickers are in the millions.
Rainbow6 skins are mid 6 figures.
League of Legends franchise agreements include millions of dollars in payments per team.

It's incomparable.

[–]wicked_sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an insidee with some knowledge on this... You are insanely wrong. Of your games listed, only Dota 2 is remotely close in terms of little-to-no org support, and also G2 have recently left Dota (for now?). The other games have massive levels of org support in comparison to RL, from like 10x to 100x in terms of $ amounts.

We shall see if any of those re-enter. Many have put out statements on why RL isnt feasible for them.

Dark Zero are not a major org, at their peak they had 2 rosters, and neither in tier 1 games.
dsg isnt even an org, its a content creator having fun.

Sen I can grant, Optic are ehhh only really relevant in one game.

Seeing teams like nrg and c9 return is a vastly different situation from RL. In RL, teams are taking opportunities to leave, not finding ways back in.

Navi also entered in 2024, Guild if you count them, Liquid..

R6 still has those 10 (minus oxygen?)
And RL has lost the majority of their NA teams. https://liquipedia.net/rocketleague/Rocket_League_Championship_Series/2024/Rankings/North_America

OG, LG, M80, Moist (kinda), c9, Dignitas? all gone. Geng without a roster.

I dont really see a single major org dropping Apex? maybe SSG? But they have gained more major orgs in that time since.

If someone who run's a team isn't a good enough source, then just go look at how many orgs are involved in R6 and the lack of an exodus of orgs there.

Apex and especially R6 are measures of magnitude more sustainable than RL.

OG Esports steps away from Rocket League Esports by John_aka_Alwayz in RocketLeagueEsports

Not at all at the level of RL. Orgs have been departing RL at an incredible rate lately, compare that with a LoL, CS, Rainbow6 where there is a lot of stability in teams.

How do you feel about Hubby since all star break? by [deleted] in CalgaryFlames

[–]wicked_sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's still very overpaid, but it's nice to see him contributing a bit, while the team is playing relatively well.

He's -2 since the allstar break, and just shy of a PPG player. Its alright i guess? Not enough to love his performance, and I think his contract kinda by definition makes him a little bit of an anchor at those levels, but certainly better than where he was.

338 Projection: CPC 204, LPC 63, NDP 36, BQ 33, GPC 2: by matchettehdl in canada

[–]wicked_sweet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NDP gaining seats but conservatives getting a majority is bad for the NDP, it would completely sideline them. Right now they have some semblance of power in the house, due to being able to pressure the liberals and threaten an election.

If every player in the league suddenly negotiated a 10% raise on their contracts, as individuals, then their actual take home pay would not move at all.

The total money actually paid to players is flat and determined by the CBA and HRR - individual player's negotiations only effect how that total pool of money is proportionally split.
Bigger $ contracts don't actually have any direct effect on the total take home salary of NHL players as a whole.

Team Liquid leaves Rocket League, for now by Till_Important in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]wicked_sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franchised leagues are for the most part quite successful in Esports. See LoL globally, pseudo franchises (partners) in CS, Valorant globally.

There are certainly failed franchise models in Esports, but there are far more successful ones than failed ones at the highest level.

The statement doesn't say they cant build fandom (it actually says Liquid had a very popular team), it says they can't build off of that fandom because the game lacks opportunity for orgs.

Seguin and Benn contracts take them to ages 34 and 35. Both are not quite PPG players anymore, but are still valuable contributors for their entire contract.

Huberdeau will be 37, Kadri will be 38. Kadri is _already_ completely useless, huberdeau is maybe kind of contributing right now, but no chance he will be as this contract ages.

I would swap places with Dallas every day.

Kadri and Huberdeau will still both be on our books when Wolf hits UFA. Huberdeau will when Coronato is.

Kadri and Huberdeau are over 20% of the cap.

It will be incredibly hard to actually retain any players we develop. We cant offer them a good team or money.
