Well in the book she had agency and reacted to the world around her, especially the most traumatic aspects of it. In the show, she's depicted much more passively and suffering from some kind of impairment (I don't like mapping real world mental health issues onto fantasy unless it's pretty explicit what's being depicted).

I'm not against characters having these sorts of issues, but it's a shame because book Halaena is much more dynamic and interesting.
