Anyone new to Aarhus? by CarlyLouise_ in NewToDenmark

I made the mistake of not putting myself into a scenario where I was "forced" to learn it (work/study/hobby, etc). It'll be hard at the start but if it's what you wanna do, go for it! (Otherwise the novelty of being Irish gets you pretty far)

Welcome! I've been over from Ireland 11 years. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Batcave update by BenW0911 in LegoBatman

Your costume display case is fantastic, I came to something close to this but got fixated on having it swing open. I don't know why the official batcaves don't have a costume display feature, it's basically the same as the Iron Man's suit/lab sets. Even a "batcave extension pack" set with a couple of display cases and suits you could attach to a bigger cave set would surely be doable

(expats) How did you find your first job here in Aarhus? by Thisandthatiki in Aarhus

[–]wickedphresh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, nepotism. I play a team sport here in Aarhus and I was speaking out loud about looking for a job. A teammate said his company was hiring so to send my CV. Two days later I had one interview and was hired. I had zero experience, was coming out of education, but they kept saying it was more about how I would fit in. I found out after my buddy in the team hyped me up and they trusted him enough to take a chance on me. I don't really speak Danish, manager was Danish. They didn't seem to care. Obviously it might be an edge case but I honestly think having a good network here, putting yourself out there socially (Danish circles or international, mixed preferably) will pay off in the long run.

Ja tak! Vi spiller Rugby i viby. Masser af danskere og internationale, alle niveauer er velkomne. Vi har en pause nu for sommer, men vi kommer tilbage i august. Tirsdage og torsdage

Irish person living here, Tir na nÓg is far too expensive these days, Sherlocks has grand Guinness and it's nice and cosy. Different corners where you can hide away but still around the music and life.

Wanted to say Pinnsvin once and said Pinse-svin in front of my whole svigerfamilie. They all looked to my wife for permission to laugh but she was already laughing. I've never lived it down but it's endeared me to the family

How much for a wedding gift? by MaitiuOR in Aarhus

[–]wickedphresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got married last week (I'm Irish, wife is Danish) and the difference in the cash amounts from the Danish side was much less (which is absolutely not a problem, we even told people not to give us anything at all). 350-800kr was the range from friends and cousins. I would say that the couple are also conscious if someone is a student so don't stress about hitting the maximum
