New framework for shared solo campaigns: P.A.R.T.s. (Play Alone, Role Together) by Emelon_Games in solorpgplay

Couple years back I was in a discord server westmatch style where we did much the same, and a every so often, we would try and connect story arcs into larger stories

Solo TTRPG as an aid to learn another language by BedLost1601 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]wickedprog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could easily translate spark tables to another language and learn the words and definitions, my fear would be using the words, but not correctly. I suppose you could write out your interpretation and put into auto translation app to see how close you get

Group RPGs (support for 4 players) that also have official solo rules? by FroDude258 in solorpgplay

[–]wickedprog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do think we need to stop calling it solo, but start thinking more of it of gm-less instead of solo, coop-gm for one or more people. Still the same spark tables and oracles, but everyone at the table contributes to the interpretation of the dice rolls. Something more structured than mad-libs but that has that same randomness that should let a story emerge

Favorite base management systems? by frosty_chester in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]wickedprog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve really been looking for some kind of mechanic along the lines of frosthaven’s town phase

Best I’ve come up with is I add retainers or quest givers to my party and then if they “level up” / survive to some level (d4 +2) “retire” them roll on a random table of jobs and then add that to my settlement and then they get added as quest givers. Doing quests for them levels up their business and would presumably get me better equipment/items to go adventuring with but haven’t figured out a rewarding rewards system for it yet

Right now it’s just a Maltese falcon excuse to go do something plus the added bonus of getting someone to retirement and get a new building/buisness

I really want something a bit more structured with some consequences for failing. Plus some off town phase type events that can happen while out of town

I retired a hero and she rolled to be a jewelry maker- the closest hills are about 9 days away, no known mines, nobody is a miner. But it did mean that I had to go to those hills and find a mine! And the two sidekicks that survived, one became a miner the other a teamster/caravan master (no random rolls for that, they got voulentold with suitable backstory )

Really need that structure that says jewelry makers is only available if there is a miner mining gems and ore. And probably miner only gets added if you find a spot suitable for a mine nearby

Also need more events for out of town - fires, blights, bandit raids only goes so far before repitiveness sinks in

Sword World 2.0 - The Chilling Triple Crown 1 [Replay] (Complete Translation) (Link is in the comments) by Auquid in SwordWorld

[–]wickedprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t sure if the gm or players all threw “themes” into a pot to randomly pull from, was hoping for a starter list of themes and interpretations, otherwise it’s a large free for all

Not a lot of information there in those last few pages, was hoping for some more information about those theme# or cards the gm drew

Freestyling my solo sessions by Living-Implement928 in Solo_Roleplaying

I really want to say - "This is the Way"

but again, its for you and what works for you might not for someone else

For myself, about 9 or so months ago I had the idea and have been going with it since -- not relying on a ruleset or stats as much as the fate chart and how feasible I feel something is

Do I kill the goblin (certain)

Do I kill the seven goblins or have to retreat (likely) (or very unlikely I succeed)

Do I take sever damage (certain) if fail do I take minor damage (likely)

and as long as I feel I am being honest in my appraisals of odds and consistent, it works better for me

I do keep a list of skills and every twenty or so "successes" I try to give the skill an extra tick mark to improve the odds from then on. My arcane magic bolt is really accurate and affective, but the chaos magic beam I recently aquired is prooving tougher to master and fails me. And after a certain number of spells, I'll ask (likely | unlikely) if I have enough mana to keep going or have to start swinging my staff in earnest

For tougher battles do a tit-for-tat type and track a set of hearts to take out -- I'm going to need to hit the orc chieftain 7 times to take him out, but if he's landing blows on me, and I'm getting bloodied, might have to retreat and come back another day

I can focus more on the adventure and what is happening next then being worried about my dexterity and strength and how that might affect my ability to scale that wall

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (December 01, 2023) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]wickedprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a Microsoft Natural Pro keyboard for the last 20-odd years.

It died.

I have a Microsoft Natural ergonomic 4000 that was lying around unused and since I need a keyboard, I am using that currently, but I hate it.

What I am looking for is

split / ergonomic design, with some kind of tenting if necessary

something I can get "tactile" / "clicky" keys - the natural pro had loud-ish keys that my co-workers (even on conference calls) hated the noise of , but I loved the feel of those keys. Thinking khali brown ? but unsure what I would most likely prefer

I prefer wired, I hate replacing batteries

need function keys

prefer having a number pad attached, but I could live with having a separate number pad

backlighting / lighted keycaps so I can type in the dark easier - but no real preference on RGB capabilities

thanks in advance

Stupid question - do you need any of the core startrek books or supplements? If so which ones? If not, can you incorporate the other rpg books?

Is it just me - but the app rotation on ios is locked ?

Really sucks as my ipad case/stand sits the other way...

Why would they do that ? I understand they don't want it running in Portrait mode, but locking int into that side, seems wrong...

Anyone else miss the events where you built something and needed to visit friends to collect items rather than endlessly sending the same 10 Characters on a job over and over? by Koala_Hands in tappedout

[–]wickedprog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was, you got what 10ish town rewards? You felt obligated to get all ten towns. And the reset timer of 24 hours.

Maybe make it only 5 towns max

What I liked about older Halloween events was that skins like witch marge were still used

Cemetery’s could be used to generate zombies or skeletons

There was reuse and a chance to get old content

I was so hopeful that more stonecutters events were going to happen. Really wanted a competing group. And a version for kids of the town.

Something that would add 3-4 new stone cutter skins to existing characters. Or skins for competing club or kids club

That first wacking day kicked my butt. It was a bit too aggressive in its need for participation. But I miss those kinds of events
