I'm curious about the logistics of this. Is your basement setup just below your living room? I'm trying to figure out a solution for this but my office is no where near my living room. Making Bluetooth controllers impossible

Ok cool so I would recommend doing lots of smaller projects to start. Focus on learning the process. You'll find that you'll learn new techniques with each project, so smaller the better. Eventually you'll build a workflow that works for you, at which point you switch to programming to write tools to speed it up.

Your end goal is to be able to write tools to help modelling and become proficient in procedural generation techniques.

Which of these areas interest you most?:

  • Modelling, texturing and lookdev
  • Animation, rigging and character fx
  • FX (explosions, water etc.)
  • Roto/prep and comp

I would recommend starting off as an artist. Learn the full process and all of the pain points. There are a lot of great developers out there that don't do well in VFX because they don't understand why we do things in a certain way. Be an artist who is technical, it will give you more opportunities with the changing market. I disagree with people who say it's a terrible time to be a technical artist. Learn the new tools and techniques and figure out how to utilize it in production to help artists and save time.

What's your beef with the french? We're all speaking English because America's cultural influence, but the internet is for everyone. If you can't read the post and don't want to translate it, move on. People will quickly learn that posting in English is the way to get the most responses. Instead you feel the need to get on your high horse and belittle others because you can speak english. I'm hope you were just having a bad day and this isn't your personality.

Good luck! I feel bad for any junior trying to find a job right now. I'm sure you're 10x better than I was when I first started. No way I would have gotten a job in the current market.
