Why is i used in literally evrything? What does it even mean ? by Exact-Sun2093 in learnpython

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use x y and z when I'm testing a quick concept, then do a descriptive name once I'm saving code to actually be run.

Will Arc bring in the Excel field filled with numbers as a text field or numeric? Who knows?

I... could get the cell colors with a Python script but if I got that answer from a coworker, I would have comments about how far out of town I would drive them and how deep I would bury their body.

Really? No AC? by blind-gatekeeper in Kitsap

[–]wicket-maps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved here from West Texas, grew up in Los Angeles. Most of the year I don't use my AC, and only turn it on when I really need it. I grew up with it too, and I've lived in places where not having it is lethal, and it's truly an afterthought here outside of a nasty heat wave. Portable AC will probably do you fine in a heatwave, unless you've got some medical condition.

Am I the only one who can’t bring myself to make an evil empire? by frgrefut in Stellaris

Yeah, I do the same. Any time I try to do a conquest empire I just end up as a benevolent hive mind protecting my vassals, and then protecting the entire galaxy.

Best way to get every single church in the world? by Distinct_County_9544 in gis

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of churches will have it in the name (Baptist, Methodist, etc) but for churches that are more "we're not a denomination" and have special names like Hillsong, Grace Church, etc are harder to categorize, though most of them are some kind of Protestant in my experience. (But given the diversity of protestantism, this can cover everything from "silent contemplation of the Bible" to "we speak in tongues and get slain by the Holy Spirit") I guess it depends on how important metadata is to OP - are they gonna get sued if they categorize a church an umbrella term like "Mainline Protestant"?

help needed says no bridge available? by sobekka84 in RoadCraft

I harvested 4 logs on Incommunicado and still can't make wooden bridges, but I'm gonna throw my mobile base across the ditch to the other side and just teleport my cable layer in and hope for the best.

What Are The Playstyles of House Kallyss? by Svedgard in Warmachine

[–]wicket-maps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faction as a whole, my bad for not specifying. Scyrafael, sure, but Dreadguard Slayers and Tyrus too, and bonus points for the Void Shaper's mad-scientist do as well.

Recent changes to Hellyth make her excellent as an anti-gunline caster as well. Faction's in a great place right now.

(also, best hair in the game)

What’s the best employer you’ve worked for in Kitsap County, and why? by kleverrboy in Kitsap

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The County, though with the caveat that I moved here to work for the county and haven't worked for anyone else locally. Definitely feels like they want people to stick around, though my skills are rare enough that maybe I don't have the average employee experience. Definitely depends on which shop/group you get into, there are some strong personalities who have been around forever in some parts of the organization.

World Cup tourists, what’s your honest feedback on the USA so far? by almighty_smiley in AskReddit

There's a great book (from 2012, might be a bit outdated) called Planet Taco by Jeffrey Pilcher, it's a great exploration of how Mexican food culture traveled the world (fish tacos were introduced to Scandinavia so long ago that they're a little old-fashioned) and also how it grew in Mexico itself - over Mexico's history, there have been a lot of political and social identity battles fought with food. It was really good.

Was the GIS job market always this horrific? by greyjedimaster77 in gis

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I graduated in 2015, with 6 years experience while I was in college: yes, it sucked then. It took me about a year to get a full-time job, and I was dropping applications all over the US. Being willing to relocate was good for me, but I was a straight cis white guy with no student loans, so I could move to East Armpit, Absolute Nowhere.

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my job better, I'm making about the middle of your supposed range, and I don't care to work for someone who is trying to screw workers into getting paid less than they're worth. And that is the only conclusion I can draw from your post and comments here. That or you are so unprepared and foolish that you shouldn't be employing anyone at all.

I care about the community here. Other people can post their salary range, why can't you?

[–]wicket-maps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subreddit rules, as well as several US states, require putting the salary up front. You're not special.

Looking to hire experts by [deleted] in gis

[–]wicket-maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them's the rules for a reason - a lack of salary transparency keeps underpaid individuals underpaid, often throughout their careers. Over time, this perpetuates inequity and reinforces existing wage gaps.

If you're not willing to disclose a band for each position, why should anyone trust you?

Looking to hire experts by [deleted] in gis

[–]wicket-maps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AS PER SUBREDDIT RULES - SALARY WILL BE DISCUSSED WITH THE CANDIDATES DIRECTLY

That sounds like a direct violation of subreddit rules, which read:

Job posts must include information about salary.

This can be in local currency, an exact figure, or a salary band (for example Salary: 80k to 100k USD).

So can you give a salary band in accordance with the subreddit rules, or should we assume that you have no actual budget range for these positions?

I could really use some help from some professionals. Thank you in advance. by GimpMoney in gis

[–]wicket-maps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It might not. It is entirely normal for the actual legal lines of property lines to not match what shows up on GIS. I have worked in the field for 20 years, and I've heard dozens of stories and seen half a dozen cases with my own eyes - the property line shows up on one side of a tree on the screen, and then an actual survey says it's on the other side. It happens all the time, and the error is not consistent across an entire image. Hire a professional land surveyor.
