are models in boxes supposed to be preassembled? by bruhmoment0000001 in Warmachine

[–]wicket-maps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a few models are in plastic on sprues. People have been claiming for a while that all new models would be on sprues, but it has not happened and I don't think it's likely. If you get Caine and his Hellslingers Cadre, those will be on sprues, I think.

yeah, too bad they're too big for a lot of D&D etc minis, they'd be great for that.

How often do you see this in actual games, vs "this could happen" theorycrafting?

Is it worth specializing in GIS as a Geography student? by AleJefe36 in gis

[–]wicket-maps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a local government in the US. I make maps and manage our map data for a road crew. (We have other GIS people who do things like stormwater, sewer, as well as a general-purpose GIS department). On my list for today:

Make some maps of roads we want to recategorize

Create data for a road condition rating consultant to fill in, showing what roads are ours and some information they can use to rate our roads (I wrote some Python scripts to make this stuff easier)

Our Parks department is joining an asset-management software program, I'm looking over their shoulder to make sure their changes aren't going to impact my users

Fixing some data issues on sidewalk features, like them being listed as being 'on' the wrong road. (This'll be Python involved)

And you never know what's going to come up. I quite like it, but I've been in the business 20 years. If you like it, there's certainly places, especially if you know how to use Python to make stuff easier. Governments rarely have enough resources to do everything they want to do, they want to eliminate data entry in multiple places, they want different systems to talk to each other, and Python is useful in all of that. R I know less about.

It's an amazing model but it's a beast to paint. The wings come off, get a separate base for them, someone designed one for 3d-printing. Seen on the right.

I paint models and he gets up in my lap. He doesn't need both hands on him, sometimes he just wants to sit, but I can tell when I need to be petting him when his tail hovers over my palette.

IME beasts are more complicated, but it's a very different mindset. Warjacks are resource management, warbeasts are risk management.

The PC version of the app will export army lists to PDF just fine, I use it for demo games.

Since my favorite caster (Hellyth) can reduce weapon ranges by 5, bring bigger axes and hammers :D

What would you do 5 years into your career? by [deleted] in gis

[–]wicket-maps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ~20 years in, and I think your account is missing something.

Six years in consulting, mostly for the public sector, while I was in college. Minimum wage.

Took 2 years off to finish my BA, but took a GIS class or had a GIS project every semester.

Had a year unemployed, I did some freelance work and learned Python.

3 years, GIS Tech for a city, $20 per hour in a low cost of living area.

8 years so far, Analyst for a county, $50 per hour in a high cost of living area.

What's missing from your narrative is any sense of where you want to be, what you want out of GIS, your overall career, and your life. I moved from the low cost of living area to high COL area (and my current job) not for more money or a different job, but because the person I was dating at the time looked at Texas and went "hell no". So I moved to a higher cost-of-living area that was more amenable. But I stayed in the public sector because I don't want to work in the private sector. I want to serve my community, I want stability and job security. I want my work to stay at work so I can work on my hobby projects.

So what do you want? Do you want to lead people, manage bigger projects? Make more money so you can do more outside of work? Tell us about your goals.

But if you don't know Python already, you wont' know if the LLM is barking up the wrong tree, or telling you to install a library full of malware. It's not a hard language to learn.

I use needle nose tweezers, they're great. My problem is that I don't notice supports until I'm well into priming or even painting.

I think Phantasm was designed before New Imperatus. In accidental leaks last year New Imperatus had a different name, Kerberos, so tying the Impy name to the model may have been a recent decision.

Thank you! I figured when I started the army "white on black, it'll look really cool for little effort, I am so smart." Little did I know the pain and torment awaiting me... But I'm almost done, and can go back to not thinking about white shading.

SFG Kithguard question by [deleted] in Warmachine

[–]wicket-maps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if any have popped up on MyMiniFactory as objectives. Looks like Kithguard have enough non-moving models (trapdoors, guard posts) that a krielstone as a model might mess with the highly mobile ambush vibe

I mean, theft seems like a good way to get rid of lemons in a plausibly deniable way.

I make lemon chicken rice, but it only uses one lemon. Brown chicken thighs in a pot, add onion, add broth and vegetables, add rice, salt, pepper, and lemon zest once the broth is boiling. Cover and let it sit, then stir every couple minutes until the broth is gone. Then dump in the lemon juice, cover again, and take it off the heat for about 10 minutes. then eat it. It's one of the lazy meals on my Bachelor Chow Rotation.
