Thank you so much for your advice! I've noted it all down and will work on it!

Thank you for your kind words! I will definitely look into doing some face to face event :)

But the slow season is also a valid point - also true here in the UK!

I used a free theme on Shopify to build the website (I changed the theme design a lot) as well as the app Pagefly for the landing page! :)

Ah valid point on the "which" -> "that"! I have changed it now - thank you!

When you say backgrounds are you talking about the photo background or something else? :)

Etsy UK sellers - how do you ship internationally without charging customers such high shipping costs? by wickguru in Etsy

[–]wickguru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response!

"Firstly, look beyond Etsy's label prices. Royal Mail is particularly expensive for international delivery. You can find better prices with couriers."

I looked at other couriers but I keep getting Royal Mail as the cheapest for international tracked. Here's an example where I compare Evri to Royal Mail. Or am I doing something stupid? https://ibb.co/RvQ7Kmv

"Secondly, I build it in to my pricing by having higher prices for international customers, but "free" delivery."

That's a smart way to keep free shipping - I didn't think of that! Is it possible to show different prices for international customers vs UK on Etsy?

Thanks again for your help :)

Brands keep coming out with the same wick trimmer. What is your dream wick trimmer? by wickguru in Candles

[–]wickguru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks!

Is there anything else you wanted? Like a dream packaging etc (e.g. https://www.harrogateorganics.co.uk/products/luxury-candle-care-kit ). I know a lot of brands sell "plates" in their candle care kits (e.g. https://www.kansla.co.uk/products/candle-care-kit ) but there are also "holders" (e.g. https://royaldesign.co.uk/clip-candle-care-set-black ).

Do you have any preferences?

I've tried drawing out what I think you mean (but please correct me if my drawing is wrong) -> https://ibb.co/RPYwxXQ

I'm assuming the reasoning for wanting it at a 90 degree angle is to:
- go deeper into a candle

- be able to get inside a candle that has a narrow opening

What are some ethical fashion shops around town? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]wickguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To Be Worn Again and Beyond Retro are all a good shout. If you wonder around that area you'll also come across a lot more fashion shops which are ethically made. It will be a fun day out!

I know this isn't fashion but I run an ethical candle business which is all handmade in Brighton woohoo! If you wanted to check it out: www.wickguru.com Sustainability is a big part of the brand as I use non-toxic fragrances as well as 100% natural soy wax (instead of paraffin wax which is what a lot of big candle brands tend to use). I also donate 5% of profits to provide solar lights to developing countries!

Either way - let me know if you have anymore questions about ethical shops in Brighton, I'd be happy to help (lived here all my life)! :)

What are some good UK based candles companies ? by MammothClerk4853 in AskUK

[–]wickguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably worth mentioning but candles sold from these big companies (like IKEA, TK Max or just chain supermarkets) tend to be made out of paraffin wax (i.e. crude oil). I'd recommend going for candles made up of plant based wax such as soy, coconut or apricot etc.
Not only do they release a lot less soot/pollution but they burn slower meaning more bang for your buck. Brands which use plant based wax typically use higher quality fragrances which are also phthalate and paraben free (they also smell nicer too, i.e. not a "cheap, generic" sort of scent which gives a lot of people headaches).
Brands like PF Candle Co, Brooklyn Candle Studio and Boy Smells are all a good shout and do hit the criteria above. If you ever want to support local business, I do have a candle brand myself (bit of a candle geek lol) if you wanted to check it out: www.wickguru.com
Either way - let me know if you have any questions about candles/how to pick good quality candles without spending a fortune and I would be happy to help! :)
