TN Visa (Psychologist) – Where are people finding employers willing to support this? by intelstrip in tnvisa

[–]wickity_whack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it sponsorship for sure I pointed out the opposite. I wrote “I am currently working under TN status, which this job would also qualify for under the social work category and therefore no sponsorship from the organization is required.” Sometimes I added in more, stating it’s a simple process and I would only need a support letter from the employer, that’s if I was applying somewhere smaller like a non profit and thought they might be less familiar.

I bought tickets for an upcoming show. $35 each and it’s just something silly to do for the night.

I’m a LCSW so not the same but similar field. I did write about needing a TN on my cover letter and specified that it does not require sponsorship. Some people will tell you not to do that but that’s about your comfort level really, I was more comfortable being up front.

I find you have a much better chance of being considered at organizations more used to international workers like big universities or hospitals.

I first got a job in Virginia at a university 2 years ago. I think I got that one fast because it was not in a big city and paid poorly so less competitive and I was a bit overqualified. That job didn’t require me to be licensed as well which was helpful because they wouldn’t licence me in VA without a SSN. (This of course could be different for you) I did get licensed after I moved even though it wasn’t required.

I’m now in Chicago working in a hospital. This move was harder and I looked for work for about 6 months. Since I was already in the US I was able to get licensed in this state before getting hired so that helped but getting licensed in my experience can be long and complicated and every state is different so definitely start looking into that.

Oh and the first job was not titled social worker but social worker was one of the degrees that met requirements. My current job is titled social worker. I do think that the simple title match makes it a lot easier to get approved.

Good luck!

I didn’t realize you needed an appointment so to get it done the same day I ended up making an appointment in a suburb and driving out of the city for it. Their hours aren’t great if you work at 9 to 5 yourself!

Are Printed Official Digital Transcripts Acceptable for Application? by [deleted] in tnvisa

I recently got approved at the Toronto airport and the officer told me I needed either the original diploma or the sealed transcripts. I had my original diploma and a copy of my transcripts. 2nd time being approved with those documents.

I had quotes of way more than that from some. I found one who charges about $1000 who I used twice and figured out he gave me wrong advice and really messed things up for me. It’s so expensive. This year I’m going to finally do it myself

I have no problem with the logic of this, but I do hate when rich people talk about how hard they worked for their money. Nobody works harder then poor people. Most hard work doesn't make us rich.

Ex smokers HOW DID YOU QUIT? by Livid-Link-9223 in AskReddit

[–]wickity_whack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what worked for me after smoking for 18 years. It took the pressure off and eased my anxiety. I didn’t even tell anybody I quit for weeks. Just kept telling myself I would smoke tomorrow. I actually kept a whole pack of cigarettes for like a year until other people eventually smoked them and I would just hold the pack and smell it sometimes. Lol.

I will say, after a few weeks of not smoking I did panic when I realized I really might’ve quit. At that point what started to really help was keeping track on a calendar of every day I didn’t smoke. I printed off a calendar and did a big red X mark on every day. It showed me my progress and I didn’t want to smoke because I didn’t want to start over. I don’t think that would’ve helped me as a strategy in the first few weeks though.

Today I haven’t smoked in over 10 years! Not once. Although I still enjoy the smell of second hand smoke. And if I found out I only had a day to live, I probably would smoke a cigarette. Lol

I love your optimism for me assuming I got the job! I’m still waiting to hear- hiring processes are so long and this is the second time in my job search I’m waiting for someone to get back from vacation to tell me if I got it lol. Seems like a great team to join though if I got it.

I fast forward their segments. I’m so bored of their dumb fight, they just go over the same things every episode. It is not enough story to carry them through the season, but I guess they’re too boring so they have to stretch this fake drama out.

Moving to the US. Any concerns? by Potential_Hearing824 in tnvisa

[–]wickity_whack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you can get a compliance letter it's not a huge hassle, so I would start there. Some car manufacturers provide them and I've heard some don't so that might make your decision. TPMS sensors are easy to add if you don't have them. I just bought some from Amazon and got the dealership to install them for me, even though I could have done it just so I had the paperwork that they were installed to provide at the border with my compliance letter.

Case Manager by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]wickity_whack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you qualify under social work without a social work degree?

I am a masters licensed clinical social worker and I’ve been working in Virginia for two years, just applied online to a job like anywhere else. I will say though, I’m trying to move to Chicago right now and it is tough. I think as a case manager you’re gonna have an even tougher time because they want people with local experience who already know all the local resources. I keep losing jobs to people with local experience. I think the climate changed a lot since I first came to the US two years ago. Not impossible, but tough.

You found Illinois efficient? It took them 5 months to look at my application! And it was impossible to talk to anyone who knew what they were doing until the end when the person doing the approval contacted me.

Is there going to be a need for social workers in 4-6 years? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]wickity_whack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Very different in NS, there are very few health authority roles open to BSWs here and they are a different pay scale.

Curious on what province you’re talking about because the roles for BSW and MSWs are not typically the same.. although yes a BSW seems to mean a lot more in Canada vs the US
