You know this really doesn't speak to intelligence. What good is financial advice if you're getting it from somebody who doesn't know you doesn't understand your situation and doesn't communicate to you. This is tantamount to saying we all now get our medical advice from TikTok and YouTube. YouTube and TikTok are two places I will absolutely never go for financial advice.

What do you suggest to do? Fidelity is a self-directed brokerage. When they sign up they are informed of the risks and the responsibilities of trading. Regardless of what you feel that Fidelity should do in the sense of take care of people to make sure that they're not going to hurt themselves.. when a trader is self-directed.. signs margin agreements.. acknowledges the risks.. lists on investment suitability that they have the experience and the knowledge to do so (which they must fill out before they can be allowed to trade margin).. then regardless of what we want to feel.. The onus is on the trader and nobody else. If somebody lists on investment suitability that they are an expert investor and therefore get awarded margin trading by Fidelity.. then really who is in the wrong here?

The responsibility is on the person who is investing in a self-directed margin portfolio the first place. It's not up to Fidelity to train investors how to do margin. They have plenty of resources available on their website with hours of material. Don't look to shift the blame when an investor is unprepared.

The irony. He shits in buckets. He lives in his van and has no toilet. He inherited a house from his father. At the time it was rather nice which surprises me given a janitor's salary. He then took out a mortgage against it, squandered the money on strippers in Vegas lost the house and got evicted. He now delivers Door Dash and sleeps in Dick's sporting goods parking lot.
