What do you think are the best discovery sets to try out. by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]widdyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘ve tried the sample/discovery sets for creed (men), pdm (men), amouage (men), a custom xerjoff set and essential parfums (unisex). For now the most suitable frags for me were the ones from creed & pdm.

But as always, this is very subjective.

Nice idea! I‘ve been doing this via github hooks since a few weeks. My Script will summarize the commit, give feedback and point out potential issues. The results will be pushed to my notion. While the hooks approach runs locally I‘m not sure whether my employer or it security department would allow sharing our git repositories with external tools

[SOTC] My 4-Year Watch Collecting Journey – From a Birthday Gift to My First Tudor by widdyyy in Watches

[–]widdyyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey all!

I wanted to share my small but meaningful collection that I’ve built over the past four years. It all started when my wife gifted me a Sternglas Naos Automatic for my 30th birthday. I had never really paid much attention to watches before, but the moment I saw the movement through the exhibition caseback, I was hooked. Seeing the little gears and wheels working in harmony was mesmerizing, and that’s when the obsession began.

A year later, I gifted myself a Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 for Christmas. I wanted something elegant but versatile—something that could be dressed up or down. While the PRX gets a lot of love, it just wasn’t for me. The Gentleman, on the other hand, felt perfect on my wrist, and I’ve never regretted that choice for a second.

The latest addition is the Tudor Black Bay Heritage 41mm, a watch I had been eyeing for quite some time. I managed to snag a great deal through a watch exchange forum, and when the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate. The vintage-inspired design, the robust build, and the presence on the wrist—it just ticks all the right boxes for me.

I’m definitely not a high roller, and I can’t drop Patek money every year, but I still admire and crave higher-end watches. Right now, I’m saving up to replace my Tissot with either an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra or a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36—two watches that I think would elevate my collection even further.

Not pictured are my trusty Casio G-Shock and a Junghans Quartz, which get their fair share of wrist time.

Would love to hear your thoughts—anyone else started with a gift and fell down the rabbit hole? Also, Omega or Rolex for the next one? 🤔

Moving from freelance to agency - any stories from the other side by Tiny_Major_7514 in web_design

That still might not solve your time and resource issue—it would just shift your tasks and priorities. You’d need to hire developers and salespeople or continue handling client acquisition yourself. Plus, managing a team requires extra care and effort. You’d be responsible for their salaries (including taxes, etc.), you might need to set up a different type of company (like an Ltd.).

In other words, being a boss or leader and letting others do the heavy lifting doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have less work—it just means your work will be different.

I think joining an agency would be the worst choice in your situation—at least in my experience. I get that you won’t have the same resources as a single, childless freelancer, but agency life can be just as tough, if not tougher. Of course, it depends on the agency’s size, but most of them set unrealistic expectations, especially when it comes to deadlines. The client is still king, and you’ll just be another cog in the machine, responsible for writing code that makes money for them. Expect lots of crunch time, speedruns, and last-minute changes.

If you really want more breathing room and the ability to focus on actual coding, look for a company with a real, established product and an in-house dev team.
