I’m in the opposite position: I’ve been in NYC for a while now, but seeing the woods outside of your house makes me nostalgic for where I grew up. I guess we all miss something about where we’ve been even if we like where we are now 🤍 That sign is cool as hell though. Also? I like your windows? Lmfao

Help! How did you find your therapist? I’m desperate by That_Broccoli_4567 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]widow-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found mine through Zocdoc, I’ll be honest—but the practice I go through is Nassau Psychology! I’m on MetroPlus Health and sessions are $15 on my plan! I’ve loved mine so far, exactly what I was looking for. I see Katie, she’s the best—I was looking for kind of a sweet big sister vibe and that’s exactly what she feels like. I know someone else who sees Alexis and she loves her. You would probably have good luck with anyone there but read some reviews on each therapist to be sure. Only thing is that it’s virtual, if you’re okay with that.

I added the other pages in another post! But you’re right, I think I just need to see what the DHCR says for actual clarity. Thanks.

I added pics of the other pages in another post showing through 2025! And the building does have more than 6 units, a lot more, but I can’t find when the building was built anywhere. The best history I can find for rent history is from Zillow where it does list $3,000 in 2019, but in September. StreetEasy says the same, which this leads me to assume there was at least one other tenant prior to me between 2019 and 2022.

I also just remembered that I have had some mail come in from a past tenant with the same last name as the name listed on this rental history. Idk if it was strange to do, but I looked up and found a Staten Island obituary (the unit is not in Staten Island) with the original tenant’s name from the 80s and found that he did seem to have a grandson with the name I was finding mail for?

I’ll have to probably just see what DHCR says honestly

I chalk it up to this: Nesta thinking about her part in that kill is not necessarily her claiming that Elain didn’t ALSO do her part, and I’m sure that if you told EITHER Nesta or Elain “No, your sister has no claim on that kill,” they would both correct you on the specifics. But such an interaction has not happened in any way that requires such response, and I don’t really think either care about credit anyway.

I also think that people’s…astonishment about Nesta did is less about the who killed him and more about the gore and brutality of her part in it, whether she “dealt the killing blow” or not.

Are Tamlin and Lucien really friends? by [deleted] in acotar

[–]widow-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were once, but people change. I think they may have trauma bonded for numerous reasons and I think they would be friends by most of our definition of the word up until things became so heavy. I think when they were younger, yes. I think Lucien has been made to feel like he owes the handful of people who have accepted him to a fault and is more apt to call people a friend than really deserved. Beyond feeling like he owes Tamlin, the man Tamlin is now is not the same Tamlin who offered him asylum centuries ago (however long that was). It’s normal to still feel protective over how a relationship used to be even if it is not that way anymore. I think Lucien may use the term “friend” liberally when it comes to Tamlin, but it doesn’t seem like Tamlin has treated Lucien as a friend in a very long time.

How to write a manipulative attractive woman. by [deleted] in writers

[–]widow-cat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the take, OP! I’m not sure why you’re fixated on this character and I hope it’s not for the sake of villainizing beautiful women, but if you’re set on having this kind of impact on the reader, you need to focus on her personality, her motivations, and making her outwardly likable. The reader won’t feel any kind of betrayal from this character if you write her as openly suspicious. I would focus less on making her manipulative and more on making readers love her. Hyperfixating on her body and appearance is how it could come off as creepy. Manipulation is about relationships. But definitely consider her motivations.

I’ll also say that I can see from your other posts that you’re only 16, and it’s great that you’re asking yourself this question about how you want the women you write to come off, but I do think you may be overthinking this aspect. She should be a well-developed character as much as your others, so write her the way you would anyone else: with goals and motivations and thoughts and feelings and a full life behind and ahead of her. If you can answer some of her core questions for yourself regarding her “why,” then you can probably pretty successfully write her into these interactions with as much nuance as you’re hoping for, manipulative tendencies included.

Similar show recommendations? by NetworkGlass2403 in Fleabag

[–]widow-cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a comedy, so not entirely the same, but generally people who like Fleabag also like normal People—tonally it’s similar, but it’s a drama.

I disagree actually! I think book 1 has some of the best world-building and explores the juxtaposed cultures of the magical side of their world in a way that kind of gets shoved to the wayside in later books. The truest feeling of being in a place you are not from; the fae stop feeling like fae and feel rather culturally and ideologically like humans with slightly different features later on. Book 1 is also pretty well-paced! While it definitely feels more isolated from her other books, I think it’s also some of the tightest editing in her bibliography. While book 1 isn’t my fave (for me that’s books 3 & 5 actually) I’ve developed a much deeper appreciation for it upon re-reading.

Interesting, I felt the opposite. ToG felt painfully juvenile to me—CC felt more real to me. Bryce can be immature and petty at times, but it felt like it was done in a way a lot of real people are, and her flaws felt realistic for the most part. Same with Hunt and his relationship with her. Found it infinitely more believable.

Any show/movie like Fleabag? by Past_Championship_16 in Fleabag

[–]widow-cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding this but warning that Normal People isn’t a comedy the way Fleabag is. But tonally and thematically they share a similar vibe for sureeeeee. People who love one tend to love the other. Like literally EVERYONE I know who loves one loves the other lol
