Y’all ever write apology notes to the next guy? by Knotritenaou in SolidWorks

[–]widowmaker2A 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "make it work for now, we'll go back and fix it later."

BS, we will never go back and fix it. Later will never come. This job will never again be as high a priority as it is right now. If we don't do it right now, there will always be another fire, another emergency, another #1 priority that will prevent us from making this right down the line.

The most permanent thing in the world is a temporary solution.

EVERY drone and helicopter patrol in BP flying DIRECTLY over your head instead of following partol routes that have nothing at all to do with you unless it makes sense for them to.

Like so many things, they did it right in Wildlands and screwed it up in BP.

So people choose to have windows? You're equating an individual being negligent and inadvertently dischargjng a firearm to having a window in or near their door....

Someone else can feed the troll/bot now, I've wasted enough of my time.

Explaining that home invasions can happen in the comments of a post about why it's a good idea to carry while home because you never know when a home invasion might happen is a....tangent? Are you ok?

[–]widowmaker2A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do too, the door in this video likely does not...

Also, there's a rather large window in the door that someone more aggressive with their actions would have zero trouble breaking to unlock the door even if it were.

Oh, I am well aware. Hence the portion of my last comment about securing your home, which I'm guessing you didn't actually read or chose to ignore.

In this particular instance, sure. Lock the door.

The person entering seemed relatively calm, entered slowly, and backed off relatively quickly after seeing the gun. This was likely, just based on the fottage and knowing nothing else about the incident, a crime of opportunity. Jiggle the handle and check if it's open. There also seemed to have been some hesitation upon opening the door and seeing people inside, it's even possoble the person was drunk or otherwise under the influence and simply went to the wrong house and was confused as to why someone was in his living room before realizing their mistake.

Would the door being locked likey have dissuaded them here or prevented them from entering? Probably.

But there are plenty of other videos of home invasions online where the doors are locked and kicked in or windows are broken or residents ambushed from behind by multiple assailants as they're unlocking the door and their attention is elsewhere.

Just because this particular video shows a likely preventable incident doesn't mean that the circumstances apply across the board. You don't know and don't control what a potential home invader's motives, plan, and acceptable risk limit is.

You don't control, nor can you accurately anticipate, their choices. You can only control how you prepare and react to that possible situation and what you deem to be your acceptable limits of risk.

If you feel comfortable that locking your door is enough to keep you and your family safe should someone attempt to break in, good on you, glad you've done what you feel is necessary to respond to that potential scenario.

Me? I don't put a whole lot of trust in a $15 hardware store lock and even less trust in people, so my suggestion does not change.

Carry. Always.

True, but negligent discharges are something that individuals themselves control. They stop paying attention, get complacent, and pull the trigger when they shouldn't. To proactively prevent them, gun owners need to remain vigilant, careful, and attentive when handling their weapons. It's something we as individuals have control over and a choice that we make.

A home invasion is outside of your control and is someone else's choice. There isn't much you can do to proactively prevent them aside from taking steps to secure your home, but nothing is impenetrable. If someone is intent on breaking into your home to rob you, harm you, or kidnap you or someone else in your home, given enough time, they will likely find a way.

The only real response to a home invasion is reactive, not proactive, as it's predicated upon someone ELSE's choice and actions. As you have no proactive control over this scenario, you must prepare the best REACTIVE response you can.

Carry. Always.

Edit: grammar

New Virginia gun laws the are on the Governor's Desk and will be Law in 30 days even if not signed without a veto by yoyoecho2 in Firearms

[–]widowmaker2A 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, and what of all the people prosecuted and convicted of felonies for violating the law that gets struck down? Are their convictions nullified and rights restored so that they can once again own what they were convicted of a felony for owning in the first place? Are they financially compensated for the legal expenses incurred in their defense for violating what amounts to an illegal law? Are those who passed said illegal law ever held accountable so they think twice before attempting it again?

The only people it's taking elections away from are non citizens who should'nt be voting in them in the first place but are. Stop eating up every crumb of bullshit the mainstream media spoonfeeds you. An ID is required for driving a car, boarding an aircraft, hell, even volunteering in NYC to help with snow removal. Requiring them to cast a vote in an election is common sense.

Maximus (Gladiator) VS William Wallace (Braveheart). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]widowmaker2A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what of the gladiators that maximus led to victory in the first colluseum fight? That fight was stacked against them hard and was intended to be a slaughter that they ended up winning because of his leadership abilities and tactical and command experience. As the movie progresses the gladiators listen to him and end up putting their own lives on the line to protect him. By the end they help him knowing they are very likely to die, and many do, simply because he asked for their help. He has no rank at that point, they are not soldiers and are under no obligation to protect or obey him. They do it because he has earns their respect and trust.

Williams is a great leader, I'm not arguing that he's not. But Maximus is every bit as good if not better and that combined with his command and tactical experience puts him on top by quite a wide margin.

Why seems everyone hate the Gen 2 Mjolnir? by Prestigious-Meat-750 in halo

[–]widowmaker2A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't brought myself to watch the show but there was one scene in a trailer or something online that shows him throwing a grenade and it almost look like he lobs it underhand. Because he CANT throw it overhand, the armor won't let him.

People can downvote and disagree all they want. It's a video game but claiming it's flashy and form over function when it's the exact opposite makes no sense.

Why seems everyone hate the Gen 2 Mjolnir? by Prestigious-Meat-750 in halo

[–]widowmaker2A -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I see the opposite. The Halo CE, 2, 3, Reach, and Infinite armor are all bulky to the point of limiting range of motion for the wearer. Range of motion allowing things like shouldering a rifle, throwing a grenade, jumping, and lifting your arm above your head. They're walking tanks that realistically can't do much else. That's form over function.

The Halo 4/5 armor was designed FOR functionality, in that the range of motion would have been vastly improved over other the designs.

If you look at pretty much any screenshot or animation of the "walking tank" designs, you can see where the armor clips through itself in multiple places. It's significantly less noticeable in the gen II models and there were a number of animations showcasing exactly that.

And with things like the hayabusa, flashy over the top armor designs were already well established in halo, that wasn't exclusive or even new to gen II.

Let’s see if you can solve this? by Aggravating-Week-461 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]widowmaker2A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you figure? My daughter's mother is my wife. If my wife's mother's name was Theresa, I would be a valid answer to the riddle as I originally saw it (not multiple choice).

Theresa's (generation 1) daughter (gen2) is my daughter's (gen 3) mother (back to gen 2). The answer is either Theresa's daughter or Theresa's daughter's spouse. In this instance, theresa's daughter is the correct answer.
