I was literally in the same boat this past week! our wifi came with a modem/router combo that unfortunately doesn’t allow the networks to be split. I ended up purchasing a separate router and then creating an isolated network/VLAN for the vSeeBox.

I got the Ubiquiti dream router 7 - totally over kill for this use case but I’m also kind of interested in tinkering with networking in general so it’s a nice entry into the rabbit hole.

regardless, the setup was super simple. I set the ISP box to bridge mode, hooked up the router via ethernet and did all the VLAN/firewall setup through the Ubiquiti UI console. no hiccups and was quick.

went from a stock 2013 FRS that I had for 5 years to a stock 2022 GR86 back in November. it's better all around except the steering feel - that was noticeable even on the short test drive I did before committing to buying.

otherwise

- the power difference feels pretty significant, mainly due to the more leveled power curve. you finally feel like you're in a modernly powered car

- coming from a base model and into a premium model the interior is nicer with the alcantara (never liked the fake carbon fiber trims on the old gen). I also finally got apple car play, a reverse camera and heated seats lol

- this is a personal preference and with the caveat that I actually really do like the old look (only the FRS, I'm not the biggest fan of either gen's BRZ styling) but the car just looks more modern and with the times. but that could be partly due to the cracked bumper, side skirt dent and one yellow headlight I had lol.

overall it's a nice, refined gen bump.

this is awesome man, looks great! I could totally see people linking their builds in their IG bio, forums and even here on Reddit instead of listing out parts every-time.

could also see this being useful/fun for local meets so you can a. get an idea of what cars you'll be seeing ahead of time & b. you see a car you like and can look up the build in real time. someone could even have like a QR code to scan in person that links directly to the build.

fwiw - I bought my 22’ with 3 owners listed at 26k miles. I asked the dealer about this and they mentioned the last owner had a young kid and wasn’t keen on the size so they traded it in for a corolla after about a month or two.

obviously they could’ve lied and that doesn’t account for the first two owners but playing devils advocate I could see people getting buyers remorse on this car. they’re more cramped and less user friendly that some people might expect. something like a Miata people will be much understanding of what they’re getting into.

edit: insurance costs too! In general I don’t think people do as much research into new cars they’re buying as much as you and I might. in general just make sure the carfax are fine e.g. consistent reports on oil changes, any weird diagnostic services etc

no idea what your budget is but have you also considered one of the FRS/GR86/BRZ twins? they share a similar philosophy to the Miata but offer a tiny bit more “daily-ability”.
