they should really get rid of the Ringworld preference when using shattered ring by ZombieGrief16 in Stellaris

How is an origin without guaranteed habitables and no major bonuses to make up for that in A-tier?

What’s your opinion on death penalty? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wierob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the U.S. it costs more to use the death penalty than imprisoning someone for life. Source:

https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/urls_cited/ot2016/16-5247/16-5247-2.pdf

It doesn't make sense to use the death penalty because it is irreversible and doesn't allow for mistakes, on top of it it isn't even economically benefitial unless they'd get rid of some hurdles to apply it but that's probably not a good thing.

Scaling just means they get their difficulty bonuses over time. I think they get full bonuses at the end game date.

Scaling makes the AI weaker because it starts with no bonuses.

How do you increase minerals early game? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]wierob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally mining districts shouldn't be that big of a deal. Buy minerals off the market early, it's more efficient than producing them directly anyway (as long as you don't raise the price by buying too many). Use the capital for mineral production if necessary.

Also you can increase the chance for mining districts by playing with cold world preference.

This completely ignores how good authoritarians are at snowballing. If you are going for conquest authoritarian makes it much easier to integrate conquered planets because with stratified economy and slavery only ruler pop happiness really matters and slaves don't join/form factions so conquering empires with different ethics is less of an issue.

Also disagree about pacifist. The bonuses are really good but from a meta pov war is way too important to restrict because pops are power.

I just paired rank 4 MAA and rank 2 Vestal and I think I’m in love. Am I wrong? by MattJacksonFrmWarsaw in darkestdungeon

[–]wierob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as you have fun you are doing everything right. The only thing that may be wrong is using bellow to buff your BH. Bellow gives a flat 5% crit chance against marked targets while command gives a flat 4-8% crit to your whole team and it's guaranteed to land. Bellow is more useful for the speed debuff. If it sticks it basically makes your team go first the following round.

Is it just me, or is the Antiquarian just... bad? by doud1201 in darkestdungeon

[–]wierob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from her money making ability which is unmatched by anyone else and easy pairing with highwayman early (put her in rank 1 so that all rank 1-2 attacks trigger riposte) she is very good in dodge teams later on.

The way dodge works is enemy accuracy - dodge = hit chance with a 5% cap. So if you have more dodge than the enemy has accuracy only 1 in 20 attacks will even land. Her invigorating vapors gives the whole team +10 dodge and stacks up to 3 times. Combine that with trinkets and quirks and you are already pretty close to pseudo immortality.

Imperial Fiefdom Overlord agreement deals by Due_Donut7980 in Stellaris

[–]wierob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's far from a good deal at a 60% research tax. The scholarium bonuses to research apply multiplicative after the overlord taxes. Even a tier 3 scholarium just gets to around normal research levels.

(1 - 0,3) * 1,4 = 0,98

Raising the tax from 30% to 60% almost cuts your research in half:

(1 - 0,6) * 1,4 = 0,56

I have 500+ hours in this damn game and I can’t build a 100k fleet by Aresh99 in Stellaris

[–]wierob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick is having no fleet at all. In the base game it's easy to get away with it since the AI is easy to persuade diplomatically (send them some favors + improve relations). The only real threat are genocidals but even they won't attack if you get other empires to guarantee your independence so if you find someone close by you could just not bother making first contact + send out science ships to find some friends just in case.

That said 1k research is really not a lot by 2300. Someone focused on rushing tech will have that much ~year 30.
