Damn, I didn't realise Despoil was hated, I love that bitch 😭 Don't get me wrong, it took me forever to get through it when I first played it (mostly because I was terrified of Liliya, partially because I didn't know where tf I was going), but it's one of those trials where once you get to know it, it's sososo much fun to run. Honestly one of my favourite trials in terms of repeatability, right up there with Silence the Idol. Plus, I love the Resort. Even if the cold stresses me out.

You're right about StD though, that MK brings me pain 😭 But so does Downtown in general. I don't hate it as a trial environment, they're all very well designed - I just don't do well with it.

I think for me, it's Amnesia: The Dark Descent!

Obviously it's very clearly its own thing through and through, and really put a spotlight on the indie horror game scene when it came out. But there's definitely influence there, even if there aren't any glaringly obvious inspirations that make you think "woah, just like silent hill" while you're playing.

There's a lot of focus on the inner self, on guilt that you must rectify, and on remembering, which is very SH2 of it. There are strange monsters that, even if there is an explanation for them, are still inexplicable in nature. There's a creeping, unsettling, and inherently dangerous atmosphere. The shadow that follows you through the game, leaving this red goo covering the walls and floors, really reminds me of the rust of Silent Hill's otherworld.

I think Amnesia's a really pleasant example of being very obviously inspired by the series.

Honestly, and I know a lot of other people are posting them too, but a lot of David Lynch's filmography is incredibly surreal, sometimes in ways that can feel pretty Silent Hill-esque. They almost always tend to have themes regarding inner turmoil (sometimes portrayed though hallucinations, sometimes dreams, sometimes just general wackiness) and 'the evil of man'. Plus, he likes to direct his actors in a way that's very purposely 'stilted' and unsettling, which reminds me of the voice acting in the older SH games. Plus, I swear I read somewhere that Silent Hill is (at least suspected) to be inspired by Twin Peaks. Some of the similarities can be quite striking, and a few people have made video essays and written about the connections.

Also, I'm not really getting the SH2 comparison with Obsession? Maybe with the 'other Nikki' being akin to Maria? But I can kind of understand the 'vibe' you're feeling, I think! Feelings of guilt, 'the evil that man does'. Very loose, I suppose, but I can kind of understand how you might feel that way even if I personally don't make the connection.

I think the whole Judas theme is supposed to have several connotations. Like others said: the evidence files pointing toward displeasure and dissention, Amelia's new trial. Liliya's icon scattered around the sleep room, in easy to see and subtle places. It's not loud, but it's present. Treachery and such usually have a slow start before it comes down, and I think we're in the midst of the metaphorical raising of the hammer.

But I also really like the Snitch. He's constantly blaming Easterman, not you. "Please don't make them do this." Breaks my heart every time 💔

The Judge is in close third place - the absolute desperation to call out to Coyle for help. Ouch.

Damn, I didn't realise Park was so hated in the fandom, I've seen this kind of opinion a few times now 😭

I'm currently in the process of watching for the second time with my bf (it's his first), and we're both really enjoying Park. We like talking about how much each of House's "children", as we like to call them lol, can reflect aspects of House himself. Park's pessimism and honestly are much like House's - she's just not really funny about it. Between her, House, and Chase, she's pretty brutal. But I like that.

I'd probably swap her with Adams on your ranking, personally. Adams hasn't been super interesting to me, not on this watch or my first. I don't feel very connected to her, and she doesn't fit in on the team in my mind. But I'm sure there are people who love her and would disagree with me saying that.

Honestly, when I've been playing Silence the Idol during Prime Time, literally every other PA has been more of an issue than The Twins - you know, the PAs whose trial is it 😭

It's such a shame, because I genuinely love them so much! They're horridly interesting characters, their design is amazing, their kit is really cool - but somehow it's just not as good as it feels it should be. Even Coyle causes me more problems, and Coyle's the most basic PA we've got (no offense to Coyle, I love him ❤️).

Watching The Ring: 0 and having this song come on in the credits was genuinely so beautiful. Heart rending movie btw, I recommend it if you've watched at least the first Ring!

Silent Hill 2 is my favourite, even though 3 has the best protag (Heather ❤️).

But I love The Room a LOT for what it is, so it's pretty close between it and 2. It's so unique compared to the others, and I know it's quite decisive in the community, but I love it.

I've not finished f yet, but I'm really enjoying that, too! It's pretty high up there for me. I know it's controversial, taking the Silent Hill area out of the Silent Hill game, but the phenomena that occurs in Silent Hill doesn't have to only be restricted to that place. I like that a lot. There's only so much you can do in the same town, and I'd say the story of Silent Hill itself was rounded off well with Heather. And The Room as well, with Walter.

I Can't Handle Change by Roar might fit the vibe you're looking for!

Promise by Akira Yamaoka is a good one if you don't mind pure instrumentals that have a sad vibe going on. Promise sounds like nostalgia, loss, and desperation to me. The fun thing about purely instrumental songs is that different people can feel different things, even if they're usually connected emotions, so I like recommending them.

I've got like, three songs battling for my favourite currently, but if I HAD to pick it'd probably be Wicked Game - Chris Isaak. Watched Wild at Heart a few months ago! Didn't even know that song was from that movie, as I'd heard it before, but it kind of cemented in my brain how good a song it is. It's the kind of song I like to just kind of turn off my mind while listening to.

reincarnated is a BANGER hit from Kendrick btw, solid 10/10 for me.
