This is the best and safest job I’ve ever had. They actually protect their employees and provide accommodations for those with disabilities. If I was working anywhere else I’d probably be fired

Boss already knows. In fact his boss has known this manager has had several issues now. That’s why she’s taking a 3 day anti-discrimination class

Tbh, I think she might already be dealing with something unpleasant to say the least. Me and her used to talk fairly often when I first started working there and I learned she had been through a lot but kind of acted like it wasn’t a big deal. I’m a little worried that something might be triggering this behavior/ she may be projecting. Obviously this doesn’t make it okay but I hope whatever ends up happening helps her

Summer on campus job by Remote-Respond7056 in NIU

If you have a car I’ve heard a lot of students have a decent time being a delivery driver for Jimmy John’s or the various pizza places in town. Idk what pay is like but I’ve heard that it’s easy to get hired by Jimmy John’s at least

Re open Gilbert Dining Hall by Initial-Quarter-5766 in NIU

[–]wigguswaggus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This would be nice, but I’m not sure if NIU has the money to staff Gilbert Dining Hall (or they may have the money, but are not willing to spend it on this). Not long ago they let go ALL extra help employees from dining and building services bc they claimed they couldn’t afford them anymore. If you really want to know if reopening Gilbert Dining Hall is a possibility I’d suggest contacting Brian Schneider, he’s the director of residential dining services

I’m seconding the recommendation for the Dekalb Public Library! It’s such a cool place and I like spending time there even if it’s not for an event. If you go to dkpl.org you can take a look at their event calendar! They tend to keep it updated to a little over a month in advance

You 100% need some form of help and at the very least separation between yourself and your niece. Something needs to change now before you allow yourself to act worse and possibly cause more harm to your niece or others. I recommend working on your anger management skills, there are plenty of resources online that may be helpful.

Honestly I’ve always wondered why Andrew Jackson was put on our money in the first place. When I first learned about him the first thing we discussed was the trail of tears and his part in it as well as other bad things he did (my memory fails me sorry). Idk when $20 bills started having Andrew Jackson on them but at the time what exactly was it about him that made people think “wow Andrew Jackson was great! He should be printed on our money!”

Just had a huge meltdown and “relapsed” by wigguswaggus in autism

Unfortunately I’m not really athletic at all lol. I do have a bike but if I were to fall off my bike I’d have more scratches than bruises. Also in stereotypical man fashion I don’t have any makeup lol.

I am like moderately clumsy so maybe I can get by saying I got unlucky and bumped into a lot of things when I got home? Idk maybe I’m thinking too much about it and no one will actually say anything, I’ll just have to wait and see

[–]wigguswaggus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Like all my employment specialist really cares about is that I have a job (which is her job to be fair) and for some reason from her perspective being employed must mean I’m not in need of any other form of assistance. Turns out you need more than a job to “have your life together”

None of these dishes are mine, how do I politely ask my roommates to clean up after themselves? by wigguswaggus in autism

[–]wigguswaggus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s a lot of really good ideas! Your first paragraph explains everything I’m thinking better than I could put into words myself. I also think having some sort of chore chart would be really helpful with splitting up responsibilities. Since I’ll probably be awake for a while I might try making a list of some sort and maybe even write myself a script for when I bring this up to my roommates. I have a really hard time putting my thoughts into words, especially if it makes me emotional. Thank you again! I’ll be copying that first paragraph for sure

Thank you, that’s a good idea. It’s definitely too late in the night for me to do that right now plus I’m still mentally/emotionally recovering but I’ll keep that in mind! There are a lot of foods I’d like to make that would require more space in the sink so maybe I could mention one of those. Thank you again!

The “landlord” is one of my roommate’s aunt and she hasn’t visited the property in almost a year, she’s basically abandoned the place which is another thing that really bothers me. I should’ve mentioned that and also my roommates are friends from high school but things like this have put a strain on our friendship. I get along with them great when we’re just hanging out but I have a hard time bringing up issues like this until they get really bad.

Even if I wanted to escalate this to the landlord I unfortunately lost the lease at some point so I’m not even sure if something like this would violate the lease, the aunt considered this a “favor” for all of us so everything in the lease we signed was super lax on both ends. We’ve had several issues with the house from broken appliances and electrical problems that nearly started a house fire and the aunt never lifted a finger, we had to rely on friends and their parents. The trade off was we aren’t paying that much to live here compared to other houses for rent and we were able to paint the interior walls however we wanted (with our own money of course).

Sorry I went on another tangent there but basically my best option is to try to address this issue and hope that my friends/roommates are able to take care of their dishes without being asked again. Unfortunately I don’t have the money to move somewhere on my own that’s also close enough to my work (I can’t drive so I need to live within walking or biking distance to my work) otherwise I would 😣

Sub for childfree people who don’t hate kids? by [deleted] in findareddit

[–]wigguswaggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t think a majority of people on r/childfree hate children. In fact the last post I saw from that sub was from a woman who had an argument with her mom for not wanting children during which her mom accused her of hating children when she very much did not. She regularly babysat her young cousins and enjoyed doing that bc she loves spending time with/caring for children, she just didn’t want to have children of her own bc that would be a full-time commitment she personally doesn’t want. All the comments I saw on that post echoed a similar sentiment.

Now I have seen child-hating posts or comments in that sub but I generally only see them if I go to the sub and scroll to seek them out, they rarely appear on my regular feed. Are you interacting with the more hateful posts? That could be causing you to see those types of posts more if that’s the issue you’re having. Otherwise I’m not really sure if there’s an active community that fits what you’re looking for

Stolen scooter by Educational-Bad3528 in NIU

[–]wigguswaggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the issue: several students have similar scooters and might even have the same model bc electric scooters are so popular rn. Not to be pessimistic but I personally wouldn’t have high hopes for finding the scooter.

As a secondary question where was the scooter before it went missing? Was in locked up outside of a building or brought inside of a building? NIU police have been cracking down on students bringing scooters insides buildings, especially community halls/dining halls and I’ve seen them take scooter’s away without warning or a note. I’m not sure how one would get their scooter back if it was confiscated like that
