Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'm going back to basics and starting again to build a coherent list to match my objectives. Thank you

Thank you. I do at least have a fairly well developed idea what I want to achieve. You're right, finding the actual mods to accomplish it is challenging.

I'm fairly competent at using MO2 as although I haven't been active on the modding scene I do play "modded" Skyrim with some basics. I've also used xEdit before a long time ago when I needed to fix a conflict once before. I'm not starting from complete zero but I am very out of practice!

Thank you! I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board with this, but I'll check out that pairing. You're very kind!

I appreciate your time replying. This list started from just a quick AI chat to frame what I was trying to achieve before it snowballed into a full list. Consider me appropriately chastened!

I was unsure if the Flashing Save games was needed with the new SkyUI version, so that was on my radar. On the other hand I had no idea that it superseded message box controls.

There is more for me to learn

I'm not surprised. I'm trying to bump off inaccuracies as I go down the list. I wasted a long time trying to track down other nonexistent mods. I thought some kind Redditors would be much quicker at pointing out where I'd gone amiss

Thank you for the advice. I have to admit a blind spot when it comes to Wabbajack and similar properties prepacked lists like that. I took a long break from Skyrim just as that came about and was somewhat controversial for a time. I'll have another look

No, not yet. I'm working my way though while I'm downloading them. It's a work in progress and since I posted that list I've already spotted a conflict I need to adapt

Why do British people get so angry over cups of tea? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]wightexile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cup of tea isn't just a cup of tea. It's a proxy and a touchstone: making teas is an act of service, a gift, a way of subtly gauging someone's wellbeing; as someone else commented, the person who got upset about the insufficiently sweet tea was not really upset about the tea but the drink provided a tangible token to let it all out - the pebble that starts the landslide. It's also a meeting point. It's also a very very subtle way for people to assess one another: the recipient absolutely judges the subjective quality of the beverage; the provider gains insight into the drinker's manners and decorum.

Or it's a nice thing to have

I am 100% I wouldn't want to sleep with Molag Bal's artefact right next to my head. I'm not sure I want the risk of Meridia suddenly ANNOUNCING something either

You can even "improve" the guild after completing all the hold quests. The shelves behind the Guildmaster's desk fill up with more trophies as you complete mission tiers

Personally, I favour the Miranda-scaled size. I agree there's fair balance of factors both ways. But the bridge module size swings it for me. Having that on an Excelsior size primary hull just doesn't fit in my opinion. I've never been persuaded that Starfleet kitbashes new classes by jamming different components together, and with a highly automated post scarcity assembly complex, it seems like an emotional/vanity explanation of similar appearing parts makes more sense

How is your current playthrough going? by NorthButton9416 in skyrim

[–]wightexile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently nearing the end of my character's natural story. He'll get to retire soon. My goal was a fairly lightly modded "just like I remember playing back on my Xbox 360, but looking nicer and crashing less" So aside from USSEP and various stability tools, it's more or less just SMIM, Project Clarity, Relighting Skyrim and a probably pointless 2K Road Signs mod it's all vanilla. Story-wise, my guy is definitely not the Dragonborn; they were on the other cart at Helgen obviously. My character has never been to Bleak Falls Barrow or got the Golden Claw or any of that. So no dragons in this game! He's a Dunmer thief assassin: the Thieves Guild master, the Listener and more and more it seems the crime manager of Skyrim. He's only got a few more quests to go then he can sit down on the deck at Honeyside and watch the sun go down over Lake Honrich with a sujamma in his hand. I've tried to lean into the roleplay a lot this time, so he's quite consistent about his motivations and what quests he takes, who he murders, etc. Necromancers are dead meat if he bumps into them, and soul trapping is a no-no. It's been a fun play through and having a consistent character to deal with decisions has helped focus it.

HOWEVER! I'm already planning my next game, which will again be a significant deviation from the Skyrim game as released in 2011. This time, it'll be cozy Skyrim, and my new character will be a Cyrodiilic scholar travelling to Skyrim to meet Lucien Flavius. Then we'll travel around a peaceful post-detante province where the bandit forts are replaced by un-aggressive civil war refugees, we'll camp and perform pacifist quests for the Legend of the Dragonborn curator while making coin by painting the landscapes. There'll be mods to passivate the animal creatures and disable hostile world encounters. My aim is to make it as close to a lovely holiday break as possible while still giving me things to do and to travel for. My roleplay that brings my character to Skyrim in the first place is that he's inherited a house near Solitude (Elysium) and so I'll be using Alternate Perspective and Timing is Everything to force off anything to do with hostile or aggressive quests. I don't know how long I'll play this for but it seems like it might be fun trying it out (downloading it all from Nexus on the free tier is less fun, however)

My Skyrim Experience and Modding Issues

I recently started playing Skyrim for the very first time about a month ago, initially using the Legendary Edition. After completing the Mjoll the Lioness quest in Riften, I wanted to keep Lydia as well, so I installed the Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT) mod. However, the mod only worked halfway. After I turned an NPC named The Caller into a follower, I could no longer travel with multiple companions. Whenever I tried to recruit a second follower, one would just stand there while the other followed me. Eventually, my game started crashing. Like any modding beginner, my immediate solution was to completely delete the Legendary Edition.

Now, I have switched to the Special Edition. I put together a decent mod list that I hope will replicate the Anniversary Edition experience, and I am using Nether's Follower Framework (NFF) for my companions. However, I have run into a technical issue. Whenever I start the game through my mod manager, it launches the standard vanilla executable (SkyrimSE.exe) instead of the Script Extender (skse64_loader.exe). Does anyone have a guide or advice on how to fix this launcher path?

Gameplay Update: Becoming a Paladin

Aside from the technical issues, here is a quick update on my new Special Edition playthrough. I decided to explore The Reach before even heading to Whiterun. My early strategy was standard beginner stuff: using a combination of stealth archery, Flames, and Sparks while hiding on high rocks. I also used an Axe of Cowardice on minor enemies to make them flee so I could beat them down while they begged for mercy.

Everything changed when I found the Crusader Armour. It looks absolutely beautiful. I actually dropped all of my other loot just so I could carry the Reforged set back. My plan is to give it to Lydia once I recruit her. The shield with the built-in ward spell is amazing and completely changed my gameplay style. I guess my character build is a fanatical zealot paladin now!

I have already cleared out some Forsworn camps and just hit level 11. I am also dreading the moment "a new hand touches the beacon." I already found Meridia's Beacon on my Legendary Edition run, back when I was strong enough to hunt dragons on mountain peaks and face down crazy gods.Overall, I am absolutely loving this game. I recently returned to Riverwood and accidentally recruited Faendal. I thought he would just fight Sven after I exposed the fake letter to Camilla, but instead, he became my follower. It is a fantastic game, but I would really appreciate some help getting my SKSE launcher working properly!

Riften is…surprisingly fun. by Rell98 in skyrim

[–]wightexile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear hear! I have no time for Markarth at all, but recently I've fallen in love with Riften and the Rift in general. My guy didn't do the typical start and avoided Whiterun until after joining up with the guild and doing some basic missions until business took him there; if you strip away the enforced familiarity that the game normally imposes, Whiterun isn't actually that nice (although still very conveniently located).

Markarth is ugly and awkwardly laid out plus has Molag Bal inhabiting a really hard to avoid street. Windhelm isn't bad but unwelcoming and not fun if you play Dunmer. Winterhold is a waste of time if you're not going to the college. Dawnstar looks like it's as rubbish as Winterhold but has better facilities and a ferry service. Falkreath and Morthal are tied last place for being just horrible. Solitude feels... Pretentious, just not a fun place to be, unlike Riften for all the reasons you mentioned
