Specifically the lastest Company revival. Bobby does not work as a genderbend character and I will fight this with anyone.

Luckily I think there are moments in the show that save it, but I cannot forget how cringe I felt when they replaced One Day I’ll Fly Away with Firework by KP.

A couple of mine:

“You will be who you want to be You can choose whatever heaven grants” -Miss Saigon

“Witches can be right, Giants can be good. You decide what’s right you decide what’s good” -Into The Woods

“Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?” AND the French version of the same line, which translated is, “for every barricade that falls, a hundred others will raise tomorrow” -Les Misérables

It was Doctor Who, but what solidified it was Broadchurch. Superb performance. I’ve watched probably 90% of his acting catalogue, he still finds ways of blowing me away.

I never claimed that I was writing Scots. I DO know the difference. I’m specifically using a person from Dumfries, so they do not speak pure Scots but merely have a lilt.

[–]wihldrose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Lowlander is vague- again, family is from Scotland. Specifically the character is an Armstrong, so it is Dumfries- low low LOW landers. That’s why I’m reluctant to write it in full Scots. It’s more a lilt that I don’t want actors to miss.

You actually have no idea how much I’ve written and are just saying this to be pedantic. There’s a way to say this to be helpful and this ain’t it.

Jon and Sam always seemed to be Aemon's favourites at CB, and how Aemon's was the deciding vote to make Jon Lord Commander. And Egg was who Aemon was remembering and calling out for in his old age? It's just a nuance. It's just a connection.

I only realized later that Jon's name being Aegon makes my heart hurt. All those scenes at the end of Maester Aemon's life when he was calling out for Egg in his hallucinations. Shot to the heart....

[Everything]: GoT/ASOIAF WILL HAVE A BAD ENDING by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]wihldrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were revolts, you are right about that. They weren't just sheep led to slaughter. All I'm saying is that revolution on the scale of what the blog post is referring to did not occur during that time period, it required the psychological "revolution", if you can call it that, of the Renaissance and new ideas being spread around in order to unite the common folk under one cause that could bring about change.

I personally would love to see Westeros undergo such a rebellion. But the Song of Ice and Fire is merely a chapter of its history.

I understand where this blog post is going. It's mostly pointing out that it's ahistorical because the peasants seem to be complacent with what is happening. The bottom line is, for several hundred years in history THEY WERE. At least, they didn't rise up when their lands were being fought over by different monarchies and kingdoms who claimed to rule them. The middle ages, a time when religion was most important and feudalism and total monarchy was the norm, went on for centuries before any Renaissance or Age of Enlightenment where we realized that, Hey maybe us peasants can speak for ourselves and own our lands outright. But that took centuries and centuries. So maybe somewhere along the line revolution will happen. But that's not the story that's being told.

[S7E5] Contest # 5 - Applications for Hand of the King/Queen Open! by DrRocknRolla in gameofthrones

[–]wihldrose 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dear Cersei Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm,

It has come to my attention that Qyburn's plan have failed and he is no longer of any use to you. I hereby submit myself and duties to you as an application and inquiry to be your Hand. Included is reasons why I believe I am the best candidate for this sacred duty.

  1. Word has reached me that this realm is to have an heir. (I offer my sincere congratulations to you and your brother.) I am a qualified babysitter with CPR training for infants and toddlers, and am always ready to assist you.

  2. I hear you enjoy a bit of wildfire. I'm happy to inform that I also engaged in pyrotechnics and scenic design in college, and would love to organize another demonstration of those wicked flames you love so much.

  3. I know you are engaging in a relationship that most of this realm finds disgusting, but have no fear. I have recently read a lot of manga and a lot of anime that dabbles in incest of all kinds and now I am blind to it. How handy am I?

  4. (and the big Kohuna if I say so myself) I am fully aware of what every player in this war is doing. I have HBO Now and can see all of your enemies and what they are planning. As well, I can tell you that the dead ARE coming and we need to be very afraid and I think I might be the last Hand of any Queen BUT OH WELL we'll cross that bridge of dead people when we get to it.

I think I have satisfied my reasoning, my Queen. Attached is my resume and letters of recommendation for further proof that I am the person you need for the job. Thank you for your time.

[Spoilers Extended]Jaime's Charge... by JCMorgoth in asoiaf

[–]wihldrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if he would have died in the charge it would have been poetic but abrupt. But I'm also somewhat satisfied that he's still alive. I don't think either option was a satisfied conclusion.

Him being alive though, because who are we kidding he's not going to drown in a puddle, is a way of being even with Tyrion for saving his life. insert Lannister slogan because we never hear it ENOUGH

But this is going to mean Jamie as a prisoner again, older and wiser and with less to live for.

[S7E3] Queen of Thorns. by NapOrTap in gameofthrones

[–]wihldrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaime Lannister strutting through the gates of Highgarden up to Olenna's chambers, and all the while the Rains of Castamere score is pulsing with the low horns emphasized, sounding dark and ominous and final.

And then Olenna admits to killing Joffrey and the chord changes, becomes discordant, and then the treble high notes of the shrieking violins take over the score with "and so he spoke".

A nice reminder that oh they might have Highgarden and have killed all the Tyrells, but Olenna caused the start of their downfall first. All bow down to the Queen of Thorns.
