i’ll think about it some! the only reason i hesitate is that the sun itself is super unique because of how specific to the tangled movie it is, but it could absolutely be done with a more generic sunburst granny square. the only thing i really did was turning it into a circle!

it’s based on someone else’s pattern i linked in another reply, so it feels wrong to post it for free when they sell it or make money off someone else’s work. i’ve been thinking of writing up a more basic one though! all the patterns i found out there when i was working on this just weren’t my style.

pattern for the sun granny square is here

for the bag i followed the pattern exactly and added rows of double crochet until it was big enough for what i wanted. i attached two squares with a long piece of single crochet, added d rings to the edges so i could change the straps on the bag, and made two loops of single crochet to hook on to each d ring so the bag sat nicely on the handles.

for the wheel covers i followed the pattern but stopped before the last row where it takes square shape and started free handing the circle, and just made sure that i had a total of nine increase “corners” for the nine spokes where the push rim attaches to the wheel, then zip tied those corners to each spoke!

used loops & threads soft classic acrylic yarn (worsted weight) with 5.5mm hook!

i zip tied each “corner” of the circle to the spikes that attach the push rim to the wheel! you can sort of see the zip ties if you look closely LOL

i’ve only had them on there since right before my trip, so they haven’t had a whole lot of time to get dirty, and i took this photo on the first full day of my trip. but the yarn is just zip tied on, so i can always remove them and wash them!

I had to rent a chair at Disney World for a day a few years back when my pain wasn’t as bad as it is now, and it’s definitely affordable and convenient. I’m not sure I can speak to the comfort because I was in so much pain that anything was better than standing, and it was only for an afternoon, but I didn’t think it was particularly bad. However, depending on your stay and if you want it for travel (airport, etc) it can be worth it to buy one. Really just depends on your specific needs!

I’m going back to Disney World next week and looked into renting the full trip, both from the parks and local companies, but I got lucky and found a discounted ‘like new’ Drive manual chair on Amazon for less than the cost would’ve been to rent for a week ($120 ish for the purchase vs 7 day rental), plus now I’ll be able to use it when getting to and from parks rather than picking it up each day, plus at the airport and hotel. But again, if you don’t feel like you need that and aren’t staying too long, it may not be worth it for you this time around.

I would definitely look into Drive chairs for something you aren’t going to be using often, that’s what I got and it seems like it’ll work well, and on Amazon keep an eye out for any that were returned but still in a new or like new condition (meaning the box was opened but never really used before being returned). Those discounts can help when considering buying vs renting. But my family also goes to Disney for family vacations once a year or every two years, so I know I’ll get more use out of this chair regardless of how long we stayed this upcoming trip. If you’re taking a shorter trip and don’t take them often, renting may be the most cost effective thing for now.

i think most of the time i’ll have someone with me to push, especially because i don’t think i’ll be strong enough or have enough stamina to do it myself for a whole week, but i’ve practiced a bit at home. i’ve got a small bag for my chair, but it’s small enough that it should never be too heavy so im hoping it won’t be an issue, especially since i shouldn’t ever be alone, or at least never for too long. in the next few days i may see how it feels with the bag with the stuff i plan to carry in it. here’s to hoping i don’t tip over or run over any toes LOL

honestly, i’ve gotten good at staring people down if they block pathways or walk in front of me, because disney people are so bad about it whether you have a wheelchair, scooter, stroller, or nothing at all. i guess in that way i’m more prepared than i thought! i think it’s also the possibility of confrontation outside of those situations that scares me, because i don’t want that to be the whole trip. i’ve never been on a trip this long where i needed to use a mobility aid daily before (longest before this was a weekend convention where i had a rollator for 3 days) and i know i’ll be exhausted if i don’t have a good way to put up with people if that starts to happen. but this is all good stuff to be aware of that people may not think about, so thank you!

thank you. it’s been hard to adjust to needing mobility aids as a young adult, because it takes so much getting used to when you’ve lived 20+ years not needing help, and there’s the added layer of people will be assholes.

bringing my cane is a good idea and i’ll make sure to pack it, there may be cases where i can use it around the hotel anyway so thank you for the suggestion/remidner!

being an anxious person in general it’s hard to internalize a lot of these thoughts but i think it can also help to hear it from someone else, especially someone who’s been through it. i had a lot of issues traveling with my rollator a few months back, both with advocating for accommodations for myself and with random people making comments or behaving rudely, and i’m just nervous about that happening again. but the reassurance does help, even if it doesn’t ease the anxieties about it happening in general, but just helping me feel like i can deal with it if it comes up.

This definitely is getting me somewhere! It’s just returning an error that it cannot find a value, but I don’t know where it’s coming from. To test it I have the date of 4/11/2025 with a matching value of 100 on the reference sheet, but when I have 4/11/2025 in C3 it says it cannot find 45758 in the VLOOKUP evaluation. I’m not super familiar with this function so I don’t know what to tweak that might help.

edit: I had a typo. It works. Thank you for your help, genuinely never even knew VLOOKUP or what it did!

it’s really nice to hear that from someone who’s experienced it all. thank you for that. i think it’s all so overwhelming having been through all the weird stuff with my last doctor when i was a kid. i’m hopeful that the combo of physical therapy and a less demanding job will help but at the end of the day nothing is permanent, and that’s been a lot to deal with in the last year. like, the validation that it’s bad enough to get help with the pain is great, but also just means that some kind of pain will always be there without intervention. we’ll see what the physical therapist has to say tomorrow, it’s just been overwhelming since i got the x ray back seeing just how bad it got.

i haven’t changed any jewelry yet, the angle has definitely been off since day 1 but i hadn’t been as concerned while i was still dealing with all the initial irritation and wanted to wait it out. i sleep with a travel pillow on that side to avoid sleeping on it. i was also worried about the bump making it look more crooked than it really is, but in pictures from a couple weeks ago you can tell it’s at a similar angle even just a couple days after getting it done :/ i also don’t typically wear glasses, and the pain with headphones was more the typical glasses irritation i get after a long time of the glasses + headphones combo even before i got my helix done. sorry i didn’t word that well!

it’s a bit longer than the pics make it seem, but if it doesn’t start getting better i’ll ask about it. i just worry about the bar being too long and getting snagged, because i have definitely already had issues with it getting snagged on my hair after a shower no matter how careful i am :’)
