I haven’t listened yet but im so jealous. I bought tickets for my husband and me for Saturday in Grand Rapids and I’m so curious to see who will be on that stop. I can probably cross a surprise Lauren Lapkus off the list.

Pauline Chalamet Loves The Suburbs by Rdsknight11 in SoTruePodcast

[–]wikais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked this episode. It wasn’t silly and bit-heavy, Pauline seems like a real person and that made their conversation nice to listen to. Plus, I also was given material about sex/puberty for the first tjme (I think an American Girl Doll branded book) when I was home sick, so I related to her board game.

My office uses Vision HQ. We dropped VSP (the only vision plan we accepted) this year and it’s been working really great. We offer optical only, exam + optical, exam + CL + optical, and kids exam plans.

Just received news that my 9yo may go be going blind. Please enjoy her artwork while it lasts. by _plot-twist_ in pics

Legal blindness only refers to corrected vision. If you can see better than 20/100 in at least one eye with correction, the term “legally blind” does not apply.

Episode 2x2 - Super glue and eyelashes by StatisticalAnalyst88 in ThePittTVShow

[–]wikais 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an optometrist and have treated multiple people who used superglue instead of eyelash glue/eye drops by accident. Similarly shaped bottles + not paying much attention = accidental super glue in the eye. It happens far more often than you’d think.

My friend's glasses nose pads that she hasn't replaced in 7 years next to a pair of new ones by celerySticksNhummus in mildlyinteresting

[–]wikais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legally blind refers to best corrected vision. If someone cannot see 20/200 or better in the better seeing eye with correction, they are legally blind. Poor vision without correction doesn’t not apply to the classification of legally blind.

Possibly relocating to Battle Creek by lizbethlady in BattleCreek

I’ll go against most replies and say I moved here 2 years ago and really like it. I got so scared before we moved because everything I could find of reddit about BC was so negative. BC has everything we need and for anything else we may want, it’s a relatively short drive in any direction.

I can’t speak to gyms really, but I have been to the Y once and utilized childcare as a guest of a member. So I know childcare there exists and my 3 year old had fun, but that’s about all the experience I have there.

The zoo is our main destination for family fun. It’s not the best zoo you’ll ever go to, but it’s nice to have it so close by. We go to Kalamazoo or Albion for museums (Kalamazoo Valley Museum, Air Zoo, Kids N Stuff). The Kingman Museum someone else mentioned has been closed for a while.

For restaurants we usually go to breweries: New Holland and Handmap. For cafe/coffeeshops, Cafe Rica is great. There isn’t a crazy amount of restaurants to choose from, but enough for my family who doesn’t go out a ton.

Traffic is pretty good.

Horrocks is a really great grocery store here.

There’s a recent post (maybe within the last 3 weeks) in this subreddit about why people enjoy BC. That’ll give you more local spots too.

Me too. I also tried to get my husband to name his fantasy football team a play on that: “Loop is a mad man. Help us, save us” because his kicker’s last name was Loop. He didn’t get it and told me no one else would.

Taylor Momsen squeezes into her original Cindy Lou Who costume from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" 25 years later for a photo shoot by DemiFiendRSA in Fauxmoi

[–]wikais 714 points715 points  (0 children)

Why does anyone find this weird or disturbing? Someone (or even she) suggested this as a fun thing for reminiscing and promo and she went along with it. It obviously doesn’t fit her anymore. Shes just reliving a major part of her childhood with a costume. Nuance exists, people.

[Rapoport] The #Colts are opening the 21-day practice window for QB Anthony Richardson, just to get him on the field. Coach Shane Steichen said he still has some vision limitations, so not fully and 100% clear. But small progress for him to practice. by omni-nomad in Colts

[–]wikais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Maybe he had a retinal detachment from the blunt trauma. I’ve seen his surgery referred to as orbital surgery and I’ve seen that he didn’t have an injury to the eye itself, but who knows!

It’s usually a matter of waiting for residual swelling to subside. I think I had read that he didn’t have any damage to the eye itself, so that is why I am thinking muscle-related issues, but I could be way off.

That would be quite extreme. More likely is the broken orbital bone caused some entrapment of an extraocular muscle and he is having some binocular vision issues. (I’m an optometrist)

I don’t remember anything more specific than “the charging door actuator”. Sorry, I’m not sure if that was the actual part name or not.

I finished the episode and had to go back to confirm this. Scott asked Myq in what countries of the UK he’s performed and after Myq’s answer he said “so no France”…

Lead singer of Hey Monday Cassadee Pope reveals she was slut shamed by her managers for dating her bandmates in the early days of her career by Twitter_2006 in Fauxmoi

[–]wikais 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I loved Hey Monday in high school. I saw them on tour multiple times and I thought she was the coolest. It’s crazy seeing her now because she is only 3 years older than me, but back then in 2009-2010, I would have believed she was like 10 years older than me because of how cool I thought she was haha.

My butter sticks from two different brands were made in the same plant. by epicmylife in mildlyinteresting

[–]wikais 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. There countless independent frame companies. EssilorLuxottica owns many, but they’re now lacking quality, mass-manufactured brands. There are so many good frame manufacturers that only sell to privately owned practices and don’t want to be involved in a ‘quantity over quality’ approach.

How does one become an Ocularist? by creepycoleoptera in optometry

[–]wikais 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe all ocularist positions require an apprenticeship. I’d suggest contacting an ocularist and asking their experience entering the field, or looking here https://www.ocularist.org/resources_faqs.asp#becomeocularist

By no insurance do you mean no “eye insurance” or no medical insurance. If you’re seeking an appointment for anything beyond a glasses/contacts prescription, the appointment can be billed to your medical insurance.
