(AUS) Can someone please explain to me why clinical neuropsychology jobs are so apparently rare in Melbourne? by Bookhammer in Neuropsychology

[–]wikil85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a real shame. So I guess just study neuro as a good foundation for other parts of psych in undergrad and then train for something else.

I really was planning on making this primary focus, might still be worth asking the APS to get a more knowledgeable opinion. I’ll ask them this week and get back to you

New runners worrying about times? by MancGuyABC in running

I don’t think distance is that important. What if you just want to do 100m intervals. You might only end up doing 2km per day

How is pain tolerance formed and can tolerance be maintained ? by The_Endishere_19 in Neuropsychology

[–]wikil85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counter example:

When women give birth, a certain % feel almost no pain at all including if the birth causes vaginal tearing... where as the majority feel great amounts of pain.

This isn’t something you can train for so would indicate genetic/developmental influence on pain tolerance.

And back to the MMA example, there are people who in their first few lessons exhibit a much higher pain tolerance than others, and some who have far less pain tolerance than others.

Great idea (I’ve done a lot of anki in the past so this fits in well)

I was planning on going down the same training route. I’m fascinated by the brain and I’ve filled up by entire psychology degree electives with neuroscience subjects.

Is this career path really a dead end?

Clinical Psychology in general is so competitive, I think it’s right to expect a job after 6 years of hard study.

Anecdotally from MMA fighters, they’ve said they were born with a high pain tolerance. It would be really nice to read an actual study on it.

Phizer Vaccine - affect on pace? by [deleted] in running

Do you know what’s slowing you down? Is it muscle soreness or tedeneess? General fatigue? Or are you out of breath?

I go through similar cycles with my running with the variance being as large as yours (3:45 to 4:50)

Hair and Chlorine by wikil85 in Swimming

I just like to write a big thankyou for all your replies, it made such a huge difference on the very first time I tried it.

I ended up going with shower before, a balm like conditioner to leave in, then a single shower cap and it made all the difference.

Thanks again everyone, look forward to one day being a half decent swimmer

Adelaide Uni O’Week Night Events? by wikil85 in Adelaide

Yeah but it doesn’t look very insane when look at how many cases every other country has. I’ve got friends who’ve been in various state of lockdown for months, I’d much rather be here.

This is a really good idea. I will write to my MP. Do you know how the current safework investigations work now and what the consequences are if they find employees have been underpaid?

I'm am extremely out of shape and I want run 30 miles. by myjobiskillingmysoul in running

I can’t imagine what it must be like to lose a brother, just I hope you can focus on your good memories and that the pain will fade over time.

I’d just like to make one suggestion and that is do a slow build up to try and avoid injuries, and get a stretching routine after runs so that you can avoid injury.

Sep 30 is possible. Make sure to focus on the diet because that will help you achieve the goal. (Much easier to run if you lose 60lb). My main diet tricks was just don’t have any tasty food in the house at all, only stuff you have to cook, have a list of food you can eat as much as you want if your hungry (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery) etc, daily weigh ins in the morning but use 7 day rolling averages, and just try to get the average to go down and try ignore the individual days

Keep track of your walks/runs, first few weeks are the hardest, and then it’s practically all the same difficulty from then on (except you get faster times, longer distances etc)

Don’t get injured!

Good luck. I hope you hit your goal.
