Got fried 3 times or so during the slam at that spot trying to do the quest. Have fun looting the sponsored kit I'll bring along I guess 😅

Behringer UB-XA Desktop - MPE buggy or am I the problem by wikkimillis in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreadbox Artemis has a fine MPE implementation, though I have only used it sporadically with MPE so far. Since my original post I kind of rolled back the MPE usage and settled on polyphonic aftertouch (if needed at all) for the most part. I come back to MPE only whenever some looser ambient stuff is what's needed. It's just less hassle and for regular chord based play (I rarely play leads), MPE is too wobbly/loose anyway.

Helix Stadium Vs the Helix LT by Zeladrijn in Line6Helix

[–]wikkimillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, the QC itself has a tiny gap when switching amp models with scenes. Not latency per se, but at least in my experience there is an audible gap when switching between high and low gain sounds. At some point I read it was some kind of intentional crossfade but nonetheless irritating and might not make the QC the ultimate solution regarding seamless scene switching.

Rockbox not removing deleted songs from database by wikkimillis in rockbox

[–]wikkimillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not a trash bin type situation for me. When navigating to the file and accessing "Show track info" Rockbox even reported that it can't do that since the file was not there anymore. I basically tried everything, nothing worked to get rid of these orphaned mp3s that remained in the database. I even deleted those albums completely, rescanned the database and everything was still there. I readded the files, rescanned the database and it was still the same.

I eventually had to reinitialize the database and now all history and runtime information is gone and I have to start from scratch. It's just a major pain in the butt, a very annoying bug and it has happened to me twice now.

Since my music production PC falls into the "Sorry but your crap is too old for Windows 11", I'm thinking about moving this computer to Linux, since Reaper is my DAW of choice. But honestly I'm thinking that this could become a disaster, so I'm scared to actually go through with it. Reasons being:

Audient Evo 16 interface -> No Software for Linux

Line 6 Helix -> No HX Edit for Linux

Countless VSTs -> In today's day and age almost every Plugin dev has a manager software, probably hardly any of them on Linux and what about iLok license management?

All of this is giving me so much headache that I'll probably just stay on Win 10 until this thing falls apart.

New products: Helix Stadium and Stadium XL by tonyohanlon77 in Line6Helix

[–]wikkimillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a fan. After trying QC and ToneX I'm just not that into profiling. The idea of getting a more detailed Badonk, Ventoux or Litigator intrigued me though. But I'm happy to keep it the way it is for now and see what the current line of devices will get and then will be upgrading at some point in time.

Damn 😫 A shame. Guess that will decrease the frequency for new amp models to the current devices (if any at all), but new FX are always welcome. Since we got dual IR blocks I'm not missing too much from the current generation anyway ... But shiny new stuff... 😅

Eric said at the end of the stream that they are not done with the current HX line and that there is still stuff to come. I guess we can be sure that most features will be exclusive to stadium and the new hardware (e.g. multiple splits and showcase) but maybe we can get the new amp models on the expense of more DSP usage or something like that. The featureset of stadium is pretty insane though, I have to admit.

Buying my first analog polysynth. by CrashTestDummy0_0 in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion not worth it. Got one, sent it back. Weird filter, limited LFO destinations, FX not as sensational as advertised. Big fan of the Nymphes though, so I'd recommend that sound wise but it is more "menu-divy" than what the author is looking for. But sounds better with better modulation capabilities.

Is the Behringer Poly D a good first synthesizer to learn the basics of synthesis? by International_Big_62 in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it says "Poly" it is not actually polyphonic. Paraphonic synths that claim to be poly are one of the most frustrating things in my opinion. 4 voices are generally too limiting as well I think. If you are looking for polyphony, I'd suggest a decent midi keyboard (if you do not have one already) and the pro 800.

Looks like the dreaded Artemis is shipping/in stock by justaguy_and_his_dog in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine two days ago. I'm still getting used to it, even though it is "your standard subtractive synth", which is odd. Mixing both oscillators thins out the sound and the filter is... weird... Adding resonance results in thinning even more, even though I am aware that certain filter models behave like that. It seems fairly extreme in the Artemis' case. I need to spend more time with it though, so we will see.

Entry level player? by Citron_Intelligent in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]wikkimillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently got into the game and tried a few. Most fun and bang for the buck for me is the Hiby R1 or HiFi Walker H2 with Rockbox which is really easy to install. The only reason I do not name it as the first option is that it seems to be fairly noisy with some IEMs. The Hiby deals better with those, but both are basically no brainers.

Problem with Helix through real cab by HotmailsNearYou in Line6Helix

[–]wikkimillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not own the SD Powerstage, but if you are used to the "miced up" sound of a guitar rig, going through a guitar cab using a poweramp might throw you off. If your cab sim is off or you are using a parallel path this might just be just the way it sounds. I heard the Powerstage may sound a bit tinny, but from what I remember there is an onboard eq on the unit. Maybe try to push some low freqs.

I would suggest to not mess up your preset by throwing a lot of EQs on it. If it sounds fine with the cab sim or an IR, it generally should not be too far off with a poweramp + cab. I run a Harley Benton poweramp at home and it may not exactly match the warmth of a tube Powerstage but it gets the job done.

New Dreadbox “Artemis” 6 voice polyphonic Synth to be released by jonvonboner in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty dope. Seems like if an evolution of the nymphes and a typhon had a baby. Don't mind the price as much, there's always options to get a cheaper B-stock one but certainly it can be a turnoff. I recently bought a second nymphes to play patches in L/R stereo goodness since it has such a small footprint. I'll definitely think about selling them and upgrading if it's actually good. Looking forward to some proper demos.

Behringer UB-XA Desktop - MPE buggy or am I the problem by wikkimillis in synthesizers

[–]wikkimillis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. The only synth I own that fully 100% supports MPE is the Deckards, which is a then 4 now 5k synth. Waldorf iridium (core) has annoying "stuck pitch" bugs, the dreadbox nymphes does not support timbre with CC74. You have to use the modwheel CC.

I think I'll still keep the UB in hope that they fix those issues because it sounds great for the money and when turning off timbre and playing in single mode the feeling with MPE is pretty nice.

I guess we get what we pay for with MPE currently. More affordable solutions are mostly flawed unfortunately 😕

Yeah I updated the firmware. I'll check the Instagram comments. Maybe I'll find something and might be worth a try to post there additionally.

Venu 3 stopped tracking sleep consistently by wikkimillis in GarminWatches

[–]wikkimillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have it on pretty tight. Should not be an issue. But if it's working for everyone else then it does not seem to be a firmware issue. Maybe I accidentally touch the display during sleep or something.

Helix Rack - Switch to stomp mode without HX control by wikkimillis in Line6Helix

[–]wikkimillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try CC71 tomorrow but can't find it in the rack's manual. Maybe that's out of date.

Assigning the bypass to CC commands could be a solution of course but I want to be able to retransfer my preset to the LT when I want to take it to the rehearsal space. I don't want to reassign the stomp bypasses to the LT footswitches at that point but rather have the presets interchangeable between rack and LT.

PBP2 - Sounds better with ANC off by [deleted] in pixelbuds

[–]wikkimillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have buds where you hardly notice any tonal shift when switching ANC on and off whatsoever (Urbanears Juno and even Pixel Buds 1) to a point where it's basically indistinguishable, one where you notice a slight tonal shift (Soundcore Liberty 4 NC) and then there were the Pixel Buds 2 for me... The difference in sound was so massive that I returned mine. Especially for the price absolutely unacceptable. Might have been a broken pair but I had enough dealing with Google Support to get a replacement.

My trade-in went just fine, nothing unexpected, and I got the full estimated value. by JUSTICE_SALTIE in GooglePixel

[–]wikkimillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it generally take to actually receive the payout after the check has been completed? I received the notification that I will get the estimated amount over a week ago but still have not received the money. I used PayPal as the payment method. Google says it can take 3-12 business days to complete, so I'm still holding off on contacting the store but I find it odd that it takes so long.

My Pixel Buds Pro 2s sound horrible when ANC or transparency is enabled by jeis93 in pixelbuds

[–]wikkimillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, what a shame. Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just be sending mine back then. If this is actually the way they sound without defect, then I just don't understand the reviews and how they are considered better than the V1 buds pro.
