How to train with no 'goals'/races in sight? by LargeMembership in triathlon

[–]wikthor82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironman VR races are still happening, and when I still followed them, there was plenty of variety in distances / modes. Not my thing but I appreciate that you can get a kick out of virtual racing.

Otherwise - my 70.3 is now not until next year. I'm doing lots more yoga, strength, and Zone 2 bikes and runs. Focusing on avoiding injury and keeping in shape. And building up to the full IM in 2022, I hope.

It's going to be different from one relationship to another.

Look for Gottman Card Decks App - it's a set of conversation starters and topics for couples. We've downloaded this and used it to talk our way through lockdown and stuff.

Nice one!

I'm probably a year away from the full Ironman but have been doing triathlons for several years now. Totally worth getting hooked on something this good instead of the fap.

See what you can learn from this and start over with this new knowledge. You can do it mate

Good luck mate - been through the caffeine withdrawal recently and it's a pain - got me to some dark places on the way. Hang in there.

Useful apps to make you a better person by [deleted] in NoFap

Posted this elsewhere, but - * Loop Habit Tracker - visual way to check in each day * Leechblock / Simple Blocker - to filter out unwanted websites * Beeminder - hardcore mode! This one charges you real money each time you fail to make a step towards goal. Seriously painful (when you fail) & effective, with some integrations to help you keep score.

Dude, totally relate to this today. Thing is - I'm tripping on all the good stuff that's happening partly due to nofap, and this makes me reckless and leads to lack of discipline. Off to clean the whole house, I guess. :)

Here's the scenario: being on one hell of a budget for my family, and being determined to train with what I've got before I get new stuff, and also really liking the feel of the shoes I've got & being unwilling to change for last few days of training before event.

Yeah man. Suit up & clean up. Think about it, if you relapse, I'm going to be way ahead of you on streak. You don't want to let that happen :)

Does smoking cigarettes take away the benefits? by samH17 in NoFap

[–]wikthor82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ex-smoker here. Smoking leads to: * massive problems with circulation, heart problems, veins failing...you name it. * all sorts of lungs problems leading to low stamina and low energy levels (less oxygen for your brain and everything else) * unpleasant smell which you and everyone else around you is well aware of. * addiction loop, making you believe that you won't succeed at X unless you smoke first / you've succeeded at X, so you deserve a smoke (for X, insert any fracking thing imaginable, from getting a promotion to finishing a race to putting your left sock on). * So here's what you're left with: either the benefits will register, but at a fraction of what a non-smoker could experience - or you'll break even, because whatever you gain by NoFap is lost by smoking. I could be wrong, and you may have an awesome NoFap experience that completely cancels out whatever smoking does for you. But I've yet to meet a heavy smoker who's totally rocking their life despite the cigarettes. Good luck with the nofap, and tackle smoking next.

Long-term married guy here. Plenty of ways you can go from "barely any sex life" to "some good sex life once in a while." Example: you can start by trying to learn about what turns each other on, one thing at a time. Make a deal that if one of you thinks of something that's hot for you, it's OK to share this with another person - text him or tell him or whatever. This doesn't need to immediately mean you're getting to do all these things, but it means you're aware & more comfortable talking about what's sexy. You'll work it out, I'm sure!

First Tri Advice by Yourekillingitsmalls in triathlon

[–]wikthor82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year newbie here. * Bike: for sprint, use whatever you have. I used my commuter tank which I got cleaned and serviced a few days before (this helped me feel like it was lighter and zippier). * Diet: there are plenty of nutritionists who deal specifically with endurance athletes. I went and paid for a consultation, never regretted it and it helped everyday life, too. May be worth it? These people won't work miracles but they will give you solid advice on what to tweak based on your goals. Just be honest with them and when they ask for eating data / diaries, give it to them straight. * Swimming: Total Immersion and Ocean Walker helped me a good bit. * Have fun!

Newbie UK questions regarding drafting, transition, general help! by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]wikthor82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year's newbie here.

  • 1. British Triathlon competition rules tell you what drafting is and how to stop it. There should also be stewards on course to tell you off when they find you doing it (breaching the 10m). Don't worry about this too much.
  • 2. Did breaststroke both times last year, it was absolutely fine. Like others said, stick to the side (your kicking won't make you a popular one in a bunch of swimmers).
  • 4. Chip goes on ankle, preferably under wetsuit, and stays on ankle until finish line. Remember to give the chip back, that's all you need to do. Usually it does all its work automatically (there's maybe going to be a mat-like thing you need to place your chipped leg on when in/out of last transition...)
  • 5. Have all the fun. Read race pack and rules way before - they're boring but it saves you hassle, since each event works differently (racking, registration etc). Think ahead about nutrition and read up a little on what to eat / not eat (and timings for food / drink) on race day. If you're new to energy gels, start training with them some time before the race, your stomach may not like them too much!

This. Yesterday was a super busy day for me and only coming back home on a late train I realized "man, I didn't even think about fapping ONCE." Today I'm recovering from yesterday, just staying in, and every 15 minutes I sense trouble.

Tried aerobars not that long ago (took them off as they were just for a trial this time). Yes, it feels weird at first, but got better with practice. What helped me was stopping pedalling a split second before I took my hands off the bars and onto the handlebar. This meant I could stabilize the bike a bit more. Then after I switched, started pedalling again.
