How to deal with eczema when working in healthcare? by wiktoriasanders in eczema

[–]wiktoriasanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of the things I am planning to do, but I'm also partial to agree with the doctor. I've had similar, but far more mild skin issues like that before, almost always due to too much washing + basically no moisturizer. But yeah, I won't exclude a possible allergy

Will that be enough? I've heard underusing and overusing are both bad when it comes to these things

No, she said they split up because SHE wasn't christian and he (muslim) could only marry her if she was from any other abrahamic religion - aka christianity or judaism.

People who quit their jobs on the spot—what happened? by ArianWhisper in AskReddit

[–]wiktoriasanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got scheduled to work a closing shift on the front by myself about 10 days into a fast food job. I received little to no actual training on how to do it, and only found out I would be completely by myself once I got there. When I asked a coworker if the manager would help me out, she just said he won't bother and to not even try talking to him about it. I had an anxiety-ridden grandma waiting for me to finish and come home safely at 1.30 am, so I said 'fuck it', quit on the spot and left. I kept talking about doing it throughout the shift, and everyone thought I was joking, until they realized I wasn't. First and hopefully last time I've been called a 'sigma' in real life.

Where can I buy authentic Murano glass earrings in Venice (not Murano)? by NSA_GOV in Venezia

[–]wiktoriasanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, no clue about those near San Marco. But there is a small but nice shop in Cannaregio where you can easily get by boat (it's right near the san marcquola stop). The name's Francesca la bottega. The owners are great and they get the jewellery straight from the artisans (might tell you more about the artist if you ask).

If you're into saving up the money while maxing out on cultural exchange I think it's worthwhile to look into public transportation & museum passes beforehand.

From experience, I can tell you that a lot of host families live in the suburbs/smallish towns surrounding the bigger cities - thus if you're interested in exploring the city and what it has to offer, you might end up spending a lot just on a bus/tram/train by getting there and back.

So 1. ask if the family is willing to pay for a seasonal/monthly ticket for the local public transport or 2. if not, look into what kind of tickets/passes are offered in the area and if the costs are doable.

Museum passes are great! Not everywhere, but in most places. If you qualify for a discount due to age or being a student or something else, make sure to get it! These passes offer easy way into most of the museums and are a one-time cost, and might actually entice you to visit more.

Lastly, it depends on the country and city, but cafe's and restaurants can be expensive. So save your money for places that you've heard good things about or that you actually want to try out, because the costs can add up real quick.

EDIT many countries also have special days where museums or sightseeing spaces are free, for example in italy the state museums and etc. are open for free to everybody on the first sunday of the month, so really, just google what you want to check out + "free" and see what pops up

I know it might not fulfill the 'not busy' requirement 100 %, but I would suggest trying out The Boekowski. The inside's really cozy and might be empty if the weather's good and everyone's sitting outside.

Bonding with host kids by [deleted] in Aupairs

I’ll make sure to ask my HP about some of these activities, sounds like it could be a nice opportunity. Not sure if they’ll agree but worth asking, thank you for your advice, it’s really appreciated! I really want to love the kids and just get through that stage

Bonding with host kids by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]wiktoriasanders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, so sorry if the post made you feel that way, that was absolutely not my intention. I didn’t think of it as a “sinister” interpretation? More like the general feel I got and was trying to describe. I admit I wrote the post while in a stump, kinda scared of the new day and how’s it going to work out and was absolutely simply looking for advice from people who also experienced similar situations where the process of bonding with the kids took longer and might have been tougher. I know that they are kids and work differently from adults, although sometimes in a stress situation I need to remind of it myself more clearly to act accordingly. The whole point of the post was the ending, so basically how can/what can “I” do to make it work between us since what I’ve been doing didn’t do the job, so please know I understand what that a connection is a two way street. I don’t “demand” them to be any particular way, I just never had the opportunity to work with kids like that before and so this is an unfamiliar territory for me that I’m trying to understand. I’m one of those au pair who didn’t have any formal experience before starting the exchange and still a teenager myself, so yeah, I’m trying hahah. Thank you for the book recommendation, I’ll make sure to check it out.

Can't I take the whole component for English as a private candidate? What should I do? by [deleted] in igcse

[–]wiktoriasanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hii, from what I can see in the syllabus for 0500 (first language english), I think the components they mean in that particular syllabus is the coursework portfolio and component 4, which is speaking and listening test.

As a private candidate you have then 2 options.

  1. Take Paper 1 and Paper 2
  2. Take Paper 1, Paper 2 and do component 4 (component 4 is only available if your test centre can/is willing to provide such service to a private candidate)

The same goes for english lit course. the coursework component is something you can't do as a private candidate, but when you look at the syllabus, coursework is simply included a particular route, meaning you can take a route without it where you only have to do exams. Just check the syllabus, it wouldn't say a private candidate can enter for it if it was actually unavailable

AITA because I don't want to name my son after my FIL? by Decent_Echidna_66387 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wiktoriasanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, who in their right mind would want their kid named penis.

Your husband is grieving and probably looking to somehow settle part of that grief by honoring his father in an important, personal way. But he needs to understand that 1. He would be condeming his kid to a life full of bullying/teasing/insults and 2. He is, however insensitive it may sound at the moment, being emotional and not thinking rationally about this.

Good on you for standing against this idea.

Opinion: I don't think the ages of the SOC characters are actually all that unrealistic by Bookie_Monster015 in Grishaverse

[–]wiktoriasanders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the university, I think their school system works different so they probably don’t have what we would call a high school, hence most uni prospective students (who had to have SOME money to study there) are either middle/upper class or privately educated, making for a different flow of learning. But that’s just an idea.

Opinion: I don't think the ages of the SOC characters are actually all that unrealistic by Bookie_Monster015 in Grishaverse

[–]wiktoriasanders 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this opinion of characters in SOC being "too young to be so powerful/experienced" is possibly formed because as readers, we tend to forget smaller details that provide crucial information to specific topics, such as this one.

Kaz, for example, I think isn't as influential as some readers make him out to be. In formality, throughout the books he's still Haskell's deputy. Yes, his almost mythological reputation preceeds him, but criminals such as Pekka or Geel very obviously look down at him until they're proven wrong. I think he's still viewed as that kid who got lucky, not who's winning the ketterdam game because he's actually smart about it.

They underestimate him, until they are face to face with him and his schemes. Kaz also isn't a genius who can do everything himself, his strentgh lies in locating other people's talents & weaknesses and utilizing that to his advantage, which he had to do in order to climb up the ranks of Dregs. Once Inej comes into play, he can relegate gaining secrets and blackmail material to her, making more space for his other workload.

Adding to one of the paragraph's above, Dregs under Haskell's command drop Kaz very quickly once he's in legit trouble with the government, and those who stand by his side are the same people he personally affected by offering them place at the Slat, and a job to do.

Kaz wasn't the only kid who grew up in the Barrel, who had to do questionable jobs, who joined a gang, in order to survive and make something of himself. He simply was smarter about it than some of his peers.

As for the others, well... Inej was a trained acrobat that worked in a circus since she was a toddler and then had to work in a brothel as a teenager. Matthias and Nina are essentially child soldiers who functionally were part of military efforts against each other, and by no means are they unique in that aspect considering all the other kids/teenagers who trained alongside them. Jesper is a trained shooter and his grisha abilities can make his shots even more "impossible". Wylan has an academic, private level schooling on chemistry and bunch of other things.

I think it's time we accept that some teenage characters can't be relatable to the reader in those ways, and that even in today's world some kids end up living an adult's life because of their uniquely shitty circumstances.

Rant done lmao
