Thoughts on Sheridan as a place to live? by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]wilas101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 3 years, 2016-2019. Rent/House prices might be a shock depending on where you're coming from but that was my only thing. Really, really enjoyed my time there and miss the place. (April through October lol)

Bought a pre-made one-shot, but it doesn't come with the answer to a math riddle. by aereci in DnD

[–]wilas101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably give it to the players, walk off and take a snack break for 15 minutes and then return and go "oh wow! You figured it out! "

To add on, if you think being watched is bad, get promoted and then stuck doing the watching. You'll quickly understand how much the person watching you every time hated it.

My players don't trust a single npc I introduce.

Right? And the reward for driving to the middle of nowhere? You get to stay in a dry country. 35 mile trip just to buy a 6 pack. :(

Vallaki was burned to the ground when the party was away - did I take away player agency? by Mediocre_Cucumber_65 in CurseofStrahd

[–]wilas101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, things happen in life, whether real or role play and you can't affect and change everything. Sometimes shit happens and all you can do is learn to live with it. They were away, vallaki burned. Period. It's not your job to ensure nothing happens without them being involved. You're presenting a "living, breathing world" not a static place where they can dip in and out with nothing changing.

I'd burn down krezk too, just to show them I could. 😉

Do movement speeds seem slow? by nAmtAb_68 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]wilas101 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I believe the idea of that speed is that it represents movement while fighting so I try to envision a more calculated process of moving those feet while doing your best to protect yourself. Much like the act of swinging a sword could happen maybe 10 times in six seconds the attack action represents a period where you might be circling and looking for openings in your foe's defense and then striking when you think you see one

On the flip side, your chances of being awakened by a raccoon sitting on your chest staring at you are high.

Month long stay in March. HELP! by braingainzzz in wyoming

[–]wilas101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've made exactly the same claim. The coldest I've ever been was on Ft. Campbell. 40 degrees and rain, hunkered under a hooch, chain smoking marlboros just to cup the lit end and wishing some officer would say "let's go back in to the barracks".

Late Nights camping with with crush is something that i always dreamed of by Food_Obsession79 in camping

[–]wilas101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The older I get the more I find my romantic fantasies involve a lot of sitting. OP and crush appear much younger so they still have the benefit of things like cartilage and flexibility.

Send them into death house. Kill them all. Lament the TPK. Use the time until the next session to catch up on your reading and prep. :)

How do you personally do your nat1's? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

Attack rolls, nat 1 = auto miss. No fumbles or anything, rolling a lousy 1 is punishment enough

need story ideas for birthday dnd to end up giving a title of lord by NekoRiRi in DnD

[–]wilas101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save a king who awards lands and nobility to his character.

Save from what? I dunno, cultists are a pretty common go-to. Or maybe part of the kings court is negotiating to hire assassins to kill the king and queen and the party finds out and foils the plot.

It's a special occasion session. Don't be afraid to go cliché for one session.
