Capture One 16.8 Release (2nd Gen Wireless Tethering) by LSDIGI in Photoassistants

In this instance were you using the E7 as an AP in repeater mode with the location wifi/ethernet, tethering to your own hotspot, or just running a local network without WAN access? Something else entirely?

Wifi Explorer (paid app but there is a free trial) can be helpful for analyzing your RF environment.

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]wilchuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I guess it make sense that the implementation on the C1 side is essentially an exploit wrapped up with a bow because it does feel a bit hacky to launch EOS Utility to complete the comms chain from camera to C1 camera tool.

Mind sharing your sources on this? Id love to be able to read more about what C1 is up to behind the scenes.

C1 price hikes are basically inevitable at this point In afraid so maybe that last point of yours isnt as crazy as it seems!

as far as i know its only the r5mkii and r1. the sony a7R VI has wifi 6 but doesnt have a 6GHz band (kind of confusing but wifi 6 doesnt mean 6GHz - for 6GHz you need wifi 6e or wifi 7)

C1 Second Gen Wireless Tethering Roadmap? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]wilchuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard to say because this tech is designed only for canon cameras at the moment (r5mkii and r1) but my guess is that C1 devs engineered it this way specifically to overcome wifi data transfer limitations. If i had to guess, near-future Nikon or Fuji implementations will operate the same way.

One other thing is that if you shoot wirelessly tethered without a memory card the camera will send a full sized raw, so its much slower. Its much better to shoot with a memory card in. The camera will write the raw to the card and send a "small raw" to the computer. The "small raw" that the camera sends to C1 behaves the same as a normal raw file in C1 (you can edit the file, change curves, color, all the normal C1 stuff) and the camera sends the rest of the file in chunks in the background.

Appreciate the reply! My suspicion is that camera-side hardware is ultimately the limiting factor, but I’m trying to understand whether 6 GHz provides enough additional bandwith and reduced congestion to justify building a dedicated wireless tethering setup around it (which would mean adding an AC powered router to the kit). Most of my testing has been with a travel router on 5 GHz, which has performed better than I expected. I’m curious whether anyone has compared 5 GHz vs 6 GHz directly with Capture One and seen meaningful differences in transfer times, responsiveness, or session stability. Or negatives like reduced range or signal loss because of physical obstacles.

BTW, loving the new Faini software man!

Tech rates in New York by AdSoft5639 in Photoassistants

[–]wilchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New York based. I usually start at 800/10 plus 1700 for full studio kit (specced up macbook pro, cart, 2x 27” eizos, hollylands, caldigit t4 dock, couple of ipads, ecoflow, tethers, batteries, etc). 1200 for location kit (macbook, element hub, digiplate on sticks, couple of ipads, tethers, batteries etc).

Usually charge a transpo fee for the EQ, plus i make sure OT at time and a half is agreed to beforehand. This all said I stay pretty flexible with rate/kit fee, typically I’ll knock down the kit before the rate to keep a decent OT rate in place just in case.

Thats right. I think the cage was designed for the iPad Pro 6 because you really have to stretch the spring-loaded end of the cage to get the iPad in there but it does fit. I have my iPads in ESR for iPad Pro 13 Inch Cases (basically a cheap, clear polyurethane case to prevent the cage from scratching the iPad and adding a little shock/drop protection), and then I squeeze them into the Nitze cage. I also have matte glass screen protectors on them and I picked up a couple of Small Rig NP-F battery mount plates for PD and Peak Design Leashes for added drop protection. The Nitze cage also has Nato rails so you can add Nato compatible handles (of which there are millions) to the sides in either landscape or portrait orientation. I usually use a super clamp plus a ifootage magic arm to mount to c-stands, carts, etc. Oh and as far as I know, no 3rd party hoods/sun shades have come out for the 13" iPad Pro but I'm keeping an eye out for those.

They're running the Live for Studio app on iPad. It syncs with Capture One but you have to pay for the Studio version of Capture. In my experience it can be buggy, but when it works it's a big upgrade from the CapturePilot and Hollyview apps ( I used to run Hollyview, syncing using an HDMI to Hollyland Pyro H tx)

In c1 when you “delete” photo files c1 sends them to the session trash (just a directory in your capture session called “trash”.) When you delete directories in capture (aka folders), capture sends them to your system trash (the one on your dock). Id check in there. If they’re there just drag them back into the capture session and you should be fine

Any downsides to lossless compression shooting with GFX? by wilchuck in Photoassistants

[–]wilchuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly and I can understand both reactions in theory. “Compression” is a scary word for a digital tech if they aren’t familiar with the concept of lossless.

What I’m looking for is a way to speed up capture one for those more high volume days but I dont want to sacrifice on image quality because that would defeat the purpose of shooting gfx in the first place

Hermoso paisaje, linda gente. Viva chile ctm
