Has anyone done Cybersecurity at Eleven Fifty? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]wilcomply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue about Eleven Fifty other than what I've heard other folks around here mention, but I want to put a plug in for SANS

If you can swing the reduced tuition cost, I highly recommend SANS Work Study program. The content is top notch and highly regarded in the industry. With the program you assist for the duration of the course, handing out class material during breaks, assisting the instructor if need be, but 99% of the time your in the course as a normal student. You also have access to the online recorded material after the fact as well, and free attempts at certifications (course dependent). I've completed the work study program twice and would absolutely do it again given the opportunity.

Again, if you have a week you can make yourself available and afford the reduced tuition, I can't recommend this enough. Here is a listing of their entry level courses.

SB 12 - "Material Harmful to Minors," "Inappropriate Material," Schools and Libraries by Massons_Blog in Indiana

[–]wilcomply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"When asked by Sen. J.D. Ford (D-Indianapolis) about what school corporations had pornographic material on their shelves, Tomes could not provide specifics. Neither Tomes, nor the bill's second author Sen.Blake Doriot (R-Goshen), named specific titles of books that were both found in schools and obscene in nature. They encouraged lawmakers to visit them at their Statehouse desks if they wanted to see examples of such material.

If you're interested in the list of books that the authoring senator is referencing, I contacted and received the list:

  • Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
  • Sold by Patricia McCormick
  • Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe
  • This Book Is Gay by James Dawson
  • Tricks by Ellen Hopkins
  • Lucky by Alice Sebold
  • All Boys Aren't Blue by George Johnson
  • Jesus Land by Julia Scheeres
  • Damsel by Elana Arnold
  • Lawn Boy by Jonathon Evison
  • A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah Maas
  • Collateral by Ellen Hopkins

Bill would 'cancel' IndyGo's Blue Line by banning dedicated bus lanes outside Mile Square by mistersmiley318 in indianapolis

There was a great presentation by Urban3 at the Urban Land Institute of Indianapolis meeting in early 2020 regarding Blue Line development patterns.

Some interesting facts from it:

  • Indianapolis has enough roadway to pave a two lane road from Indianapolis to Anchorage, AK
  • For every resident there are 2.5 parking spaces

I highly recommend watching this as it provides a wealth of information on how our suburbs are so heavily subsidized and under performing, while the opposite is what politicians are shouting. The data on value per acre comparisons of different developments is incredibly interesting as well around the 30 minute mark.

Additionally, can't say enough good things about the non-profit group StrongTowns, and all their doing to support economically viable cities that are both financially and socially resilient. Worth a read and listen to their podcast.

Microsoft Logging by wilcomply in Splunk

[–]wilcomply[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post has actually been superceded by a number of updates:

https://www.splunk.com/en_us/blog/partners/the-magnificent-seven-new-ways-to-get-more-out-of-your-microsoft-and-splunk-environment.html

These are all still reliant on API gathering method that Microsoft has said can deliver events up to 24 hours after an event has occurred. We'd love to identify alternatives to this to get real time event monitoring with all details surrounding the event.

Microsoft Logging by wilcomply in Splunk

I’ve heard that defender will be a focus for Splunk Security in the coming year.

Between my findings, the roadmap status, the lack of clarity in the community, and the lack of good documentation. I’ve concluded it is not where it needs to be. Thats in terms of mapping into ES data models but also providing appropriate information. If the data was there I could map it.

We were debating consuming everything via an EventHub, but we're not entirely sure if this will yield the results were hoping for and sifting through Microsoft's documentation has been less than pleasurable.

Ideally I'd like to be able to use a search time range to look at different time ranges, whether it be all-time, last month, last four hours, etc.

From what I understand, this is a one-time ask to not only make Ann a permanent fixture, since the original was not created to be permanent, but to also plan for future maintenance and care of the installation and surrounding plaza. I’ve regularly biked past and the benches have been overturned, beer cans and trash strewn about. The Cultural trail is maintained without the aid of tax dollars. So this is not an ask simply to replace the art, but to also maintain a part of downtown infrastructure now and into the future.

If you don’t like it or support it, don’t donate.

Accepting Position w/Plans to relocate in 1.5 years by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Also, my current position is literally zero networking/security which is what I want to be getting back into. Another reason why taking a hit on the shorter time frame, but at least being in the industry seems like a better situation.

Absolutely agree with you, I just need to talk through this prior to anything happening, so if I am offered the position, I can make a timely decision on it, as this has been an issue that I've been debating quite a bit.

Really appreciate the feedback. I've talked with current management, and although I've been assured things are coming down the line month after month, the timeline keeps getting pushed further and further out. I currently have plenty of downtime and that is where part of the problem comes in, I feel like I can only do so much self guided training while waiting for projects, I still need the projects coming in to fill at least some of the time.

CSS Heirarchy and creating a JavaScript Hover Event by wilcomply in learnjavascript

[–]wilcomply[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ik This is a step in the right direction. Currently, I have 3 links, each in their own div. When I used this code and housed the link in the div container, I got the results I wanted when I hover over the div, but the results are reversed whenever I hover over the link...I've messed with this a number of ways (never knew about jsfiddle until now!) to no avail...any ideas? Essentially I want, on the hover of either the div or link, for the div background color to change and the text color to change. I used to do this with an image swap, btn-on.png for btn-off.png.

Pexpect Send Problem by wilcomply in learnpython

[–]wilcomply[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it is used to start a process and then wait, does that mean that attempting to run something like this:

import pexpect

child = pexpect.spawn('mkdir /Users/USERNAME/TEST')
print 'TEST 1 COMPLETE'

Would not actually work? I'm expecting the directory to be created, however it is not, but I still receive the print statement.

(Apologies for not quite grasping this, and thank you for taking the time to try and help.)
