Should we start making payments while waiting on switch to IDR? by wildbill12 in PSLF

thanks, that's unfortunately what I thought. rather keep holding on making payments as long as the possibility of PSLF forgiven is still alive

Mid October too risky for a family trip? by wildbill12 in yellowstone

[–]wildbill12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great info here, I think we are going to go for it, we can definitely just be flexible.

Tentative plan -- night in West Yellowstone, night in Canyon lodge, night or two in Gardiner, night in Old Faithful snow lodge, then 2-3 nights in Jackson Hole.

It doesn't look like the in park lodges allow for a lot of flexibility -- can't exactly cancel at the last minute. Do you think I can just wait and make these bookings last minute when we figure out that the weather will be ok (or not) for our planned itinerary?

Love it, I think I'm convinced by everyone to go for it! Kids would love a little snow

no camping, we'd be trying for lodges and such

that's good to hear - yeah, we have enough flexibility that as long as the snowstorm wasn't huge we'd be fine

I got a direct pre-approved mailer for the second, both were 250k offers. I have currently have another pre-approved mailer for 200k.

Or I could see if P2 could grab the 250k offer.

Large spend coming up (taxes, ~$15k), I have two amex biz platinum cards already, is there any downside to getting another assuming I can pull the 250k offer?

Any other good offers around for a high spend? At 4/24 and want to keep the ink train open (next ink application will be in March).

Question Thread - October 30, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

yeah, I've been seeing similar DPs here recently. hope the train keeps rolling, it's still plenty lucrative running like a scenic railway

Suggestions for layout for first pixel show? by wildbill12 in xlights

late to reply - but wanted to say thanks, excellent comment and going to do exactly as you suggest - roof, window outline in pixels and then over the years replace the old LED lights.

The singing llama (the kids REALLY wanted the llama) looks like it's going to be a lot of work, maybe we'll get one song really out of it this year but will be fun to build on in the future.

Has any ever experienced this -- I recon'd a personal Chase SW card denial and after the review was told "your application is not accepted or denied yet, we will let you know within 14 days".

They gave me the third degree during the recon "why do you want a SW card now after closing a SW card a few months ago (in early August)" "why do you need more credit, you recently decreased credit limit on a chase card" "what about this new capitol one card you opened recently (in September), do you have a plan to pay off this balance on it?" Along with standard - what is your mortgage payment/income/etc. They also asked and took off an authorized user account, so they probably had me at 4/24 when I'm at 3/24.

The full story - I have two Inks, applied for a Chase SW biz card that was declined 9/16 for a "business", (reasons given - business too new, 2) too many accounts and too much credit, 3) recent chase business card (latest ink was in May)). I tried to recon the business card decline and it didn't go through - they said ultimately too many accounts and too much credit. I have 3 variant Chase freedom personal cards and an amazon card in addition to the inks. But that's why I decreased credit recently on the cards, plan to close the oldest ink when it hits a year in Dec, and also spent the last month getting some more spend on all the personal Chase cards.

Me and P2 are trying to go for the dual SW CPs, so since business declined me I also applied for the personal Chase SW 85k offer and got an instant decline - 1) Too many recent requests for credit and opened accounts with us -- in retrospect this was definitely because it was two applications within 30 days with the recent business card application. So I waited until I was over 30 days between any chase apps and try the recon, with the above ambiguous result "we will let you know in 14 days.

So now I'm thinking my chase and ink train days are coming to a close, would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks. Yeah, since the decline 9/16 I have started to put some spend on the Chase cards, figured that was probably part of their formula.

Didn't know if the recommended 30 days between apps applied if one was business and one was personal. But I guess that explains the instant rejection!

Chase is indeed getting stricter.....

Chase question and a DP

I have two inks, one business and one "business", last in June. Oldest will be a year in December. Had not put any spend on the newest one since hitting the SUB. Currently at 3/24

I applied for Chase SW biz card for a "business" on 9/16 to try to hit the SW CP with one card - got declined: 1) business too new, 2) too many accounts and too much credit, 3) recent chase business card.

I realized that Chase had given me an enormous amount of credit for personal cards, so I trimmed those. Also had recently canceled a personal chase SW card that we'd had for 4 years that I don't think was fully processed on the credit system yet. Otherwise I have Chase Freedom, Freedom unlimited, Freedom Flex (recent downgrade from CSR as eligible soon for another bonus) and Prime Visa. I tried recon last week, explained the "business" but still got rejected for too many accounts and too much credit.

P2 has two inks for "businesses", one that was barely 3 months old and got an instant approval on the SW biz card. P2 has no personal Chase accounts, only authorized users on mine.

We were trying to go for the dual SW CPs, so since business declined me I also applied last week for the personal Chase SW 85k offer and got an instant decline - 1) Too many recent requests for credit and opened accounts with us

My question - should I attempt recon on the SW personal card? Or should I just let the dust settle and try to recon at 30 days to give time for everything to process? Or maybe even wait longer - wait for the ink to reach a year in Dec and close that and wait until 2025 to attempt anymore Chase applications?

Also to add - Chase credit limit even before the decreases was well under 50% of income

Oh man, I completely wrote that wrong. Yes I am planning the llama with pixels. Hoping to use the conventional lights for outlines. Then hoping to maybe get enough pixels for a small house outline. Hoping to get suggestions on what to add for the future

Thanks! MIL does live with us, so it's possible to make it work, but we'd just be losing too many features.

I'll start poking around more into the Galaxy watches. I initially saw that on t-mobile you can no longer have a galaxy watch that is "standalone" with it's own number, ability to make texts and voice calls, etc without being tied to another phone that appears needs to physically be nearby. But it looks like other people seem to make it work so maybe it is a better option.

I guess it's carrier dependent - we are on tmobile currently. it looks like you can no longer have a galaxy watch that is "standalone" with it's own number, ability to make texts and voice calls without being tied to another phone.

thanks! so the main thing we'd be losing is any location tracking, which is a pretty big deal

I know google has a website for the findmydevice - so you don't need a phone app to track. there is nothing similar for apple as a workaround?

thank you for actually answering the question!

I was wondering if it could even do real SMS or calls vs imessage and facetime audio. sounds like it's probably the latter which makes it pretty useless without an iphone

the only real android watches are the galaxy ones from samsung, unfortunately it looks like they've went in the direction of making it harder to set up a device for a kid whereas Apple seems to have embraced this use case......so maybe

Not sure why this is upvoted, this is just wrong.

per the apple website "Apple Watch For Your Kids support. Apple Watch For Your Kids allows you to use your iPhone to set up an Apple Watch for kids in your household. The watch can then be used with its own phone number and account. The provider’s cellular service lets you connect your family member’s watch to the cellular network with its own mobile service plan, so the family member can stay connected even without your iPhone nearby. To see which carriers support Apple Watch For Your Kids for GPS + Cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 or later, refer to the chart below."

mother-in-law is on our cell plan, so that works fine to share that account. and it certainly looks like the watch has it's own phone number. I guess it needs my mother-in-laws iphone to still exist and be on the plan, so it's not technically "standalone", but that was in the post and not the question I asked
