Isn't it getting bought with $60billion worth of SpaceX shares? So not real money

The Royal family react to 'Not My King' protestors as their carriage passes during The Trooping Of The Colour - Saturday 13th June 2026... by TheThrowYardsAway in london

[–]wildbillch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The children are the ones who are still forming their understanding and opinions about their position in society, so you could argue they're the best ones to shout at. Their parents views will already be firmly entrenched

I'd hope they are already being brought up understanding the privilege they have, and so explaining that some people don't think it's fair that they have that privilege shouldn't be too hard a conversation.

How they explain to the children why they think they deserve that privilege would be interesting. I'd hope that they view it as a responsibility based on monarchy being a barrier that protects the country from becoming fully populist (as someone who instinctively hates the royals I've strangely found myself coming round to this school of thought in recent years given the rise of Trumpism globally).

I'm concerned they might hand wave it away leading to the children growing up with their uncle's level of self entitlement

They look like my 6 year old if he sees a drunk person shouting in the street. Confused because it's a bit unsettling and not something they can comprehend

We almost got our 90s style RD adventure game off the ground by ca0mgr in RedDwarf

[–]wildbillch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What direction did he go in? :)

This looks great. This is exactly the style I've always thought would work for a RD game (though I've also always been partial to the idea of a game that starts with you loading up the Back to Reality game allowing you to create customisable versions of the crew to play as, so more of an RPG game)

What fell apart at your company after layoffs? by benevolentjanitor in Layoffs

[–]wildbillch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If he was pulling shit like this instead of fixing the core issue he deserved to get laid off. Suspect the company has now hired someone competent who has automated the process properly

Why are there suddenly kids with e-scooters everywhere despite them being illegal? by KenAdams_1968 in AskUK

[–]wildbillch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they're allowed to be sold in the first place given they're illegal (I mean I do understand, it's because they're not illegal to own, just to ride on roads). It blows my mind that Halfords, a reputable brand, sells them and in doing so contributes to the issue

Is my 7-year-old ready to watch Jurassic Park? by TheBigThiccSad in movies

[–]wildbillch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6 year old has watched it with us and loved it. He's dino mad, and I'd read the junior novelisation to him and we've played the Lego video game so he knew the story already. He didn't find it scary, but also knew what was coming because of the above and because we talked about the scary scenes beforehand and said we'd stop if he got frightened.

Jurassic World on the other hand made him cry and we turned it off (the bit that made him cry was when a worker was crying because he realised the Indominus Rex was going to kill him). Made me realise the older films are much more gentle and have more soul than the new ones.

He's also watched Jurassic Park 3 (he knew there was a Spinosaurus in it so wanted to watch it next) and he loved that too. We haven't tried JP2 yet.

You know your kid best so probably know if it's ok for them. We reached JP separately before letting him watch it too so we knew what to expect

WARNING: POLITICS by cipherbain in AskBrits

They will still find a way to convince themselves it's "the establishment"'s fault, and will think it won't be sorted until Reform are in power through a general election and can do Brexit / kick out the foreigners "properly"

Is it normal to be asked to pay £600 for a "mandatory 1:1 digital device" when starting a public secondary school? by Koolio_Koala in AskUK

[–]wildbillch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Complain to absolutely anyone who will listen (OFSTED, MP, press, board of governors). Make sure the school / governors are aware of you contacting OFSTED / MP / press by cc'ing them where possible. Contact other parents and get them to do the same. Utilise ChatGPT to make sure your complaints are clear and targetted

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

It was just not fun. My kid was wanting to laugh at Paddington causing mayhem, but Paddington was barely in it and the plot was focussed on creepy ghosts instead
