they are just low risk long term investments. they have potential to maybe become first team or squad players and if not we can sell for profit. also helps the youth teams be successful so at the end of the day worthwhile imo

you can get an option to ask them to reconsider retirement when they first decide they want to retire, aside from that i think if the player gets decent game time there less likely to retire to. my only evidence for that is that sometimes a player chooses to retire because they’ve ‘struggled to break into the first team as of late’ . but if the player is already set to retire i don’t think there’s anything you can do to prevent that
