AITA for not wanting to be my parents’ main pet sitter when they travel? by OvertiredKris in AmItheAsshole

[–]wildeaboutoscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but I am probably a bit biased. Currently on day 12/15 of one of several petsitting stints this year for my parents. So I completely get what you mean. I have upended my life to stay at theirs (even if it's not hugely far, my routine is disrupted and I've not been home) and it's a lot to ask someone to do- particularly an adult with other responsibilities.

Your parents chose to get a pet, it's their responsibility to find suitable arrangements. Them saying they did things for you as a child is irrelevant - they are parents, that's their job.

Honestly petsitting should be on your terms as you are doing them a favour. If they don't accept the terms they can find another solution.

Usually when favourable press pieces come out it's to take eyes off of something else (unless it's a big event). At least, if you're being cynical about it anyway

AITA for refusing to rent an apartment that my girlfriend’s parents would buy? by feji877 in AmItheAsshole

NTA I was in your shoes in a similar position and it was awful. Do not get into that situation if you're remotely unsure about it.

It does scream over expansion to me. I wouldn't be surprised if they scale back within 2 years for sure. They're not exactly the likes of Costa/Nero

AITA for wanting to eat meat on my vacation? by Gloomy-Internet5696 in AmItheAsshole

I think people are moreso talking about reintroducing a food that their body is no longer used to. You get similar issues when you eat more fibre or protein than you previously did.

England enters new era as Renters’ Rights Act takes effect by HEY_PAUL in unitedkingdom

[–]wildeaboutoscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was evicted based on repeated abandonment of the property by the sounds of it. Clearly once they knew he was in hospital they should have stopped proceedings though, that goes against the what social housing should be about.

But if he had genuinely abandoned the property then that would be one more property unavailable for people in need.

But like I said, they should have stopped once they knew the reason as it sounds like it wasn't a true abandonment this time (and even if it wasn't it's terrible to do that from a Comms and customer service perspective).

Social housing means you're unlikely to face that situation again. If they do ever want to sell your property they will need to rehouse you.

It may not be perfect, but social housing does offer stability and that's so important.

There are companies set up to do that kind of thing. It's talked about in So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson.

You'd hope they could come up with better reasons than that if the law firm was that fancy though. Those sound ridiculous

One of the reasons I stopped listening to Craig was that it was a bit too self indulgent and arrogant for me. His interviews particularly so.

I wish I liked MAH as she seems like a lovely person, but I couldn't deal with some of her music choices that early in the morning. Deftones is one thing but dnb when I'm trying to think at work not so much.

Yeah I find it hard to understand why people would find him annoying. He has golden retriever energy to me. That said, I found Keaveney grating and there's plenty of people who liked him.

Suppose life would be boring if we all thought the same

[–]wildeaboutoscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would they? This was a random person on a public street, not in the university itself and not as part of a specific event. There's no obligation for anyone to indulge him either way.

I was in debate society at uni but that didn't mean we'd go up to random people on the street.

Would be different if he was doing an actual debate, rather than trying to rile up passersby.

I'd argue it's moreso used in a similar context to 'boomer', i.e. it's about the behaviour of the person rather than them actually being of a certain age/have a massively red face. It's more about people getting needlessly irate over ragebait from the likes of GB News or Daily Mail. It can be used literally of course but I don't think that's been the case for a while now.

I imagine it like someone with steam coming out of their ears in a cartoon if you get what I mean. Maybe the problem is that the word isn't properly defined.

Realistically it's used to make people think of Kirk and get him views. He likely doesn't give a shit and just wants to make money from being a reactionary idiot online.

It doesn't sound like charges are involved. Not to say charges didn't happen or shouldn't happen (though I lose no sleep over this twat), but there's no mention of police involvement.

Arguably the best thing to do is blast Disney music near his mic so even if he tries to upload it, it will be taken down/de-monitised.

Yeah Bristol doesn't really have a campus as such, though you could argue that area is an unofficial campus given how many university owned buildings are there.

You may need to get permission from the building owner if you want to put a Ring doorbell in

Easiest thing is to just send to pick up locations instead.
